Game starts in a little over 5 hours.

Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.

Two of the most storied franchises in the NFL with 9 Super Bowl Championships and 11 appearances between them, meeting for the first time in The Big Game. Pretty Exciting.

Who's going to win?

What prop bet are you placing some money on?

What's your halftime entertainment of choice?

Best commercial?

How many times will Joe Buck mention Brett Favre's name?

I'm taking Green Bay for the Bay Area connection of Aaron Rodgers having played his college ball at California.

I'm taking Pittsburgh winning the coin toss, the under on the length of the national anthem (1:54) and the over on points in the first quarter (9.5).

At halftime I'm going to watch Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga fight to a no contest when the arena explodes killing both combatants in a Celebrity Death Match that will take place in my mind. MTV really needs to bring that show back just for the Super Bowl.

And Joe Buck will mention Brett Favre's name no less than 36 times (but not in a row, that would be a record or something).

I am completely neutral on the Packers but, being from Cleveland, my Steeler hatred means I am more than a little interested in a Green Bay win. I think the Pack has a good shot since Rogers is playing out of his mind and Green Bay's running back came out of nowhere and could have a monster day.

Looking forward to the commercials. I'm hoping for lots of humor. I wish all commercials could be like Old Spice, Dos Equis and the old Real Men of Genius spots. Also looking forward to trailers of the comic book movies. The Black Eyed Peas should be painful to watch (bring back Prince!). I'll be making my legendary bean dip for the family, and I may order take-out since my wife and son are sick today.

Nothing can beat last year's performance by The Who. I watched it again last night on NFL Network. Prince was pretty great too.

The only current act I have interest in seeing in a halftime setting are The Roots. Maybe when NBC has the game next year.

My real wish is for a Plant and Page reunion with a Black Dog-Communication Breakdown-Heartbreaker-Whole Lotta Love Medley.

A bunch of the commercials seemed to have leaked already which takes a lot of the fun and anticipation out of watching them during the game. I've managed to avoid all of them except for one of the Pepsi finalists which may or may not air that was created by a local filmmaker.

I'll echo RickLM in that I have to root for the Packers due to my Steeler hatred (loyal <sigh> Browns fan here). Unfortunately, my gut tells me the steel city will get another ring.

I would have to say that this Superbowl has me really excited, just because of all the things we can compare on paper alone. Two great quarterbacks, two explosive defenses (and players in Matthews and Polamalu) and two franchises steeped in NFL history. I'm not expecting a blowout by either team, it should be a good competitive match.

As for commercials, sign me up for Captain America, if only for a look at Red Skull.

Big problems at Cowboys Stadium: Gates closed; fans 'mad as hell'; seats not ready

By From Staff reports
Published 06 February 2011 01:06 PM

Because of lingering issues with ice on the roof of Cowboys Stadium (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Cowboys_Stadium), four of 10 gates at Cowboys Stadium are closed.

"We have to ensure the safety of the fans above everyone else so the decision was made to close some of the gates," said Arlington (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Arlington%2C_Texas) police Assistant Chief James Hawthorne.

The scene outside the stadium was tense Sunday afternoon, with some fans waiting several hours to get through security and into the stadium at Gate G near the Packers end zone.

The closure of gates made it difficult to enter the stadium.
Jason Livingston, 34, and Tom Sapienza, 66, of Austin waited in line for nearly two hours.

"People were chanting 'Jerry Jones sucks,' Livingston said.
Only two male and two female guards were doing pat-downs outside Gate G, which slowed the line down because the crowd was overwhelmingly male, they said.

Joani Shields of Bloomington, Indiana, 40, said she waited in line for two and a half hours.

"I thought fights were going to start breaking out," she said.
A group of Packers fans came into the stadium at around 3 p.m., and said they were "mad as hell" about their nearly three-hour wait.

"For a big city, Dallas has really disappointed," said 43-year-old Chris Johanski of Appleton, Wisconsin.

Gates B, D, F and J might be opened closer to kickoff. That decision would be made by the NFL. Hawthorne said that Arlington fire officials tried Saturday to remove the remaining ice from the roof after falling ice injured six people at the stadium on Friday.

"They took every effort they could but they couldn't get it all," he said, adding that it would be impossible to try and do more removal today. "We prepared for every contingency, including ice on the roof, but unfortunately Mother Nature didn't cooperate and the safety of the fans comes first."

Six people were injured by falling ice Friday outside the site of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV in Arlington. He broke his left shoulder in four places and was planning to fly home to Washington, D.C., on Saturday and undergo surgery soon.

None of the other injuries were thought to be life-threatening, authorities said. One person remained hospitalized in stable condition Friday evening, officials said.

The injuries were reported about 1:15 p.m. Friday after ice and snow fell from the southern area of the stadium roof.

Huge sheets of ice and snow atop the stadium could be seen sliding off the dome and crashing 200 feet to the ground as temperatures warmed and the sun reappeared.

But Rich Walsh of Long Branch, New Jersey, 54, said it only took his group two minutes to get through.

"Some people went the wrong way," he said.

Even when fans got into the stadium, some temporary seats were not even finished yet.

Botched? Cowboys Stadium not ready for Super Bowl kickoff; NFL to offer triple refunds
http://www.dallasnews.com/skins/dmn/gfx/pixel.png

By From Staff and Wire Reports
Published 06 February 2011 03:55 PM

Two hours before kickoff, Cowboys Stadium wasn't ready for its possibly record crowd.

As the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers were warming up on the field, workers were still installing temporary seats in the top level of the stadium's west end.

At least 200 Super Bowl ticket holders were standing in a long line in the Party Pass area of Cowboys Stadium Sunday afternoon after being informed by NFL officials that their seats are not yet installed.

"We're in line, but the line isn't moving so I'm not really hopeful," said John Dostart, of Des Moines, Iowa. "I can't tell you how frustrated we are. You can only yell so much and then you get to a level of anger that you don't yell anymore."

Dostart said the displaced ticket holders have been given a form by the NFL guaranteeing them three times the $600 face value if they are not seated. The NFL is telling the displaced fans they still hope to seat them before kickoff.

"I don't know how to feel about that," Dostart said of the potential refund. "We came here to see the game and $1,800 might cover our airfare and hotels."

John Hoffer, from Farmington, Conn., said fans are getting madder by the moment.

"The worse part is the lack of communication," he said. "There's nobody here will a bullhorn giving us updates. There are no bathrooms, they told us we'd get food vouchers, but so far nothing."

About 4 p.m., Hoffer said the angry fans were let into the stadium without instructions about where to go or the status of their seats.

"We're going to walk up there and see if they're ready," he said. "People are really frustrated. I hope those seats are there."

Moments later, the NFL released a statement that said, "There are a limited number of sections in temporary seating areas inside the stadium that have not fully been completed. We are working to resolve the matter and expect by game time most of the fans affected will have been accommodated in their seats or relocated to similar or better seats."
This is the latest black eye for the hosts following a week of problems caused by rare severe winter weather. They were hoping flawless game-day logistics would wipe out some of the complaints.

At least the weather was better — blue skies with temperatures in the low 50s.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was counting on a crowd of more than 105,000, including stadium workers and media, and fans who bought standing room tickets for plazas outside the stadium.

Melting ice creating leaks in Cowboys Stadium

Hi folks, colleague Kamrhan Farwell and I were scouting Cowboys Stadium when we came across crews cleaning up large pools of water in some of the concourses. Workers said the water is coming from the ice on the stadium that is now melting.

Workers have cordoned off the sections and say they are trying to clean up the pools before kickoff.

Fans holding tickets to some temporary seats in the end zones were not allowed inside Cowboys Stadium because their seats weren’t yet finished, according to the NFL and reports on the scene.

“We are working to resolve the matter and expect by game time, most of the fans affected will have been accommodated in their seats or relocated to similar or better seats.”

Jake Batsell, who had a ticket for section 427A, said he was handed a letter that said he would be given a refund at three times the face value of the tickets. Batsell's Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#%21/jbatsell) provides a pretty stark description of what happened; all you need to know is that he's using the hashtag "nightmare."

The NFL said only a limited number of seats were affected. The Associated Press put the number at 3,000.

Around 4 p.m., most of the “bleacher” areas appeared to open. About 504 seats, several rows in Sections 425A and 430A, will not open for the game; those fans will have to be relocated.

In the meantime, Arlington police were describing unruly crowds who were trying to enter the stadium in both the east and west Game Day Fan Plazas.

Fans in the west plaza were chanting “Jerry sucks” after a wait of two hours. The stadium gates were scheduled to open at 1 p.m., so it’s not clear why the delay.

More frustrations over closed section (http://blogs.star-telegram.com/cowboys_stadium/2011/02/fans-upset-to-learn-their-section-is-closed.html)

There are some upset fans on the concourse right now.
Packers fan Dave Pape was among those that were told their tickets for temporary seating were in a section that was not open. He said he bought the tickets for $800 each through the Green Bay ticket office.
"Then, when we get to the door, they scan the tickets and tell us we can't go in, the fire marshal shut our section down," Pape said. "Unbelievable."
He and the people he attended the game with were taken to an area where other fans with the same problem had gathered, he said. When they finally made into the stadium, they were told they'd have to watch the game in the standing room only section. At 4 p.m., they were trying to figure out where to go.
"It's a mess," he said.

I also liked the VW Super Beetle ad, and - oddly enough - the Eminem Chrysler bit. I'm ashamed to say, however, the only one that actually made me lol was the one where the girl got engaged on a blind date, and the creepy hippy guy comes in and says, 'Ooo...roommate.' It wasn't a great ad, but for some reason it made laugh.

What were people's favorite ads? I really liked the long Eminem Chrysler ad and the retro TV NFL ad. Those were my two favorites, aside from the trailers.

Little Vader, Dorito dust loving guy, Blind date engagement and Retro TV clips.

The only one that stuck out in my mind was the Chevy Lassie commercial. I didn't even know we had a volcano in this town!

I concur.

It's been a decades long campaign waged by Fran Tarkenton.

Eminem's Chrysler/Detroit commercial. Detroit is an underappreciated city now, because of the high unemployment, the high crime rate, and the state of disrepair its fallen into. But that commercial made me appreciate the city and what it means to this country and want to root for it.

Yes, most people appreciate Detroit over television.

I never understand why people treat him like such a joke. He even tries to downplay his record. But four championships, especially given his role in those games is just incredible. I think it's jealousy. You don't think the guy is kind of a clown? I don't mean like Andy Reid clowernery, where the dude just breaks out with something completely inexplicable. I mean for the entire length of his broadcasting career, he has kinda of carved out a role for himself as the clown of whatever group of guys he has been cast with. And his playing days were a long time ago. What he does on TV is the way most will see him.

Whatever though. The game yesterday, I think will really help his legacy.

He does fashion it himself to a degree, but he has had his issues with depression. But his name rarely comes up in discussions of the all-time greats. Never lost a SuperBowl, four in six years. That's something that will likely never be topped. He's still number 1!

The 70s Steelers had a reputation as a team that won with defense, even though that only applies to their first two SB wins (vs. Vikings and Cowboys). The general thought was that Bradshaw, Swann and Harris were excellent, but it was Greene, Lambert, Blount, etc. who were responsible for the championships. Even though Pittsburgh's 3rd and 4th Super Bowls were high-scoring games, that reputation lived on.

That is why Montana and Aikman will always be viewed as a cut above Bradshaw.

Bradshaw has an 11 yard per pass average in four SuperBowls which puts him at number one. He also put up several 300+ yard performances in the playoffs. He didn't Dilfer his way to four championships. It's all jealousy man. Fran Tarkenton's plan worked.

I see he and Montana and Aikman as being on the inside looking out at everyone else.

And Tarkenton really should be worrying at all about Bradshaw. He should be out there trying to soil the reputation of Jim Kelly.

I'd add Steve Young to that list. He was amazing.

And I really do think Johnny U is the greatest QB of all time.

And I really do think Johnny U is the greatest QB of all time.I am only looking at it from the standpoint of Super Bowls and those are the only guys who were able to go 3-0, or better. I am not saying that this is somehow the best standard. But I really do think there is a big difference between 3-0 and 3-1.

Young is 1-0, but lots of guys are 1-0. Though Young has a pretty strong case for being the best of the 1-0 guys.

Yeah, someone that goes 3-1 was able to get to more Superbowls than someone that goes 3-0 while still winning just as many. Was Brady as good as those guys up until the Immaculate Catch, but became worse right after?

For me, the dumbest ad was for the Chevy Cruze (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUHDFafqykI). This car can give you Facebook updates at the push of a button!

So that's the main selling point of the car? That it gives you Facebook updates??
