From StarWars.com (http://starwars.com/themovies/saga/preorder_bluray/index.html):

The most anticipated Blu-ray release ever -- the Star Wars Saga -- emerges from light speed this September 2011. For the first time, all six of George Lucas' epic films (Episodes I-VI) are united in one complete set. Fans worldwide are able to pre-order now with online retailers.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Star Wars in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan:

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will be available for $139.99 US/$179.99 CAN and the Star Wars: Trilogy Sets for $69.99 US/89.99 CAN. Pricing for each set will vary by international territory.

I didn't see any artwork or list of special features. Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Complete-Episodes-Blu-ray/dp/B003ZSJ212/) already has The Complete Saga for preorder for $90, and each of the Trilogy sets are $45.

I didn't see any artwork or list of special features.

I'm excited, but I was hoping for one or the other, at least something more than price point and release date.

Fwiw, the video trailer was neat. Lucasfilm puts together great montages.

I don't care about Greedo as much as all the changes made to Return of the Jedi.

I'm interested, but I'll wait -- just like I have no need for Lord of the Rings until the Extended Editions come out with something that'll be worth ditching my dvds for.

Wait for what? I too will probably pass intially on these given that I don't watch them as much as I used to and the older movies aren't going to look that much better on Blu-ray. Oh yeah, I also don't want to spend $140.

yeah, jedi is less enjoyable with the yub nub song missing and mannequin skywalker standing at the end while ben kenobi and yoda somehow stayed old in the jedi afterlife.

Having a young skywalker kind of makes since since that is when he ceased to be a jedi :?

I've so far passed on the LOTR Blu-rays, not because they didn't include the extended editions, but because the picture quality was not as good as it should be for those movies.

I've seen much older movies that looked much better on Blu-ray than they ever did on DVD.

Do you think that will be the case with these movies though? They have already been reworked several times and look way better than when they were first released.

Same here on LOTR, I have the extended editions and have no incentive to replace them with the Blu-ray theatricle versions.

Unless they do a piss-poor job with the transfer, which there's no reason to think they will, the movies should look noticeable better on Blu-ray than they do on DVD. If INCEPTION looks better on Blu-ray than on DVD, why shouldn't STAR WARS?

I'm not rushing out to preorder anything. Also, while I enjoyed the Special Editions with the added footage, altered scenes, etc. I feel they did a good job at pumping me up for the prequels but I'd rather have the original versions of the films. I'll wait until they tell us if we'll get original versions of the films or not before solidifying a decision.

Considering he likely kept the originals in decent condition (no jokes please!) then yeah.

Even then, the clean up process can restore things amazingly.

Plus Lucas has said they would be new editions. He stated part of the reason it was taking so long to get them on Blu was because it was an expensive process to do the conversion right and he wanted to make sure the format gained enough acceptance among the general public to make it a worthy investment.

My problem with the new edit of A New Hope wasn't Greedo shooting first, it was the lame Jabba scene that was added after the Greedo scene.

I hope they include the Biggs Darklighter scenes on Tattooine. That gives Luke a bit more gravity to his need to leave the planet, and now it echoes Anakin's frustrations at being held back by the Jedi council.

Fuck the haters. I will own this on day one. To those who think the OT won't look amazing on Blu, you're freaking crazy. This is going to be reference material, and hopefully be the films that finally destroy the notion that only modern film looks good in high def.

Do I wish the non special editions were on here? Of course I do, but I've come to terms with the fact that George doesn't care about them anymore (which was especially evident when he crapped them out on DVD in non anamorphic/ laserdisc quality).

I'm hoping these are special editions of the Prequels as well. Maybe new stuff added (digital Yoda in TPM) and hopefully some things trimmed.

I hope the deleted scenes live up to their potential. Koo Stark's scenes. The sandstorm from Jedi. And at least better quality stills of Luke building his lightsaber, if not an actual moving clip.

Watching the Alien Box set should do that.

You know, the DVDs themselves are pretty amazing. Try running it through a 120hz HDTV and it will make you even more amped for the blu ray.

Yikes. One of those "deleted" scenes is certainly going to mess up a few Star Wars stories...

If they do indeed add in the scene of Shaak Ti being killed by Anakin, then it completely messes up the stories of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and a bunch of the other books. Granted, they are "expanded universe" stories, but they included her in those stories because Lucas said her death in Revenge of the Sith was omitted and was to be considered "non-canon".

The deleted scenes aren't being added back into the film. They're just on the sidelines. If it wasn't in the actual film when it was finished its non-canon.

Sides, that Shaak Ti death scene was part of the deleted scenes when Ep III first came out on DVD.

for those in the UK, you get IV, V and VI free via redemption if you buy a new Panasonic blu ray player.

you're also getting Avatar 3D and 3 other 3d films. Avatar alone goes on Ebay for £40 to £50 normally, as these redemptions are the only way to get avatar like this. (til at least 2012)

If I remember correctly, Shaak Ti died a couple of times in deleted scenes, once by Anakin and once by Grevious

The MSRP for the six-movie set is $140 versus $70 each for the trilogy sets. Amazon is just doing a bigger discount for the trilogies (43%) than for the full set (36%). I'll be surprised if that doesn't change before the release date though.
