Why are they awesome?

How do I convince a friend of their awesomeness if they don't give two shits about comics as is?

Depends on what they are into. Can you name a few TV shows and movies that they love?

I could, but before I do that, do you think you could come up with reasons why they should read comic books in that genre, as opposed to other tv shows and movies?

I've found that if someone loved the Iron Man movies, for example, they're much more inclined to give the Hulk or X-Men movies a try than to pick up an Iron Man comic book.

What would get them to pick up a comic book?

I read an awesome comic called The Barbarian that was a 10/10

Why. They should read comics in what genre? I was asking what they liked so I could recommend books they might like. Why read comics in general?

Obviously because they are awesome.

That one is in the top 5 Superhero stories of all time for me.

Frank Quitely is going to be at Emerald City in a few months, this will be my first chance to meet him. Can't wait. :)

I would say it's all about story. If someone watches the X-Men movies and enjoys the characters and the concepts, I wouldn't hesitate to throw them Astonishing X-Men because it feels like a continuation of the story. Same with The Dark Knight and Gotham Central, or even Iron Man and Invincible Iron Man.

They're not going to get the same experience from the comic that they do from the movie, but if they enjoyed the actual substance of the movie, or even the basic concept (superheroes for grown-ups, a la Watchmen, Kickass) then they could find value in a comic that continues those themes or characters.

That's on the surface, of course. It's difficult to explain to an indifferent party just how rewarding and original the comic reading experience is. My philosophy is just find something you think they'll like, for ANY reason, and let them discover the joy of comics on their own. I never would have appreciated Asterios Polyp were it not for Spider-Man, y'know?

This will be my first time, I'm going to try and catch some sights while I'm there. The only downside is that Staple is being held on the same weekend this year, really wish I could do both.
