Here's my attempt to rough out a timeline of Batman's career. I can't really see how you can make it work unless he's been Batman for at least 20 years.

And yeah, yeah, it's a comic, so time doesn't really matter, etc., but I just thought it was a fun exercise:

Year 1: Per Frank Miller's Y1, Bruce is 25.

Year 3: Bruce is 28. Robin debuts - let's say he's 12.

Year 9: Robin is 18 and at college. Bruce is 34. He encounters Ras and Talia for the first time.

Year 10: Son of the Demon. Damian is conceived. Dick becomes Nightwing.

Year 11: Jason Todd (age 13) tries to steal the Batmobile's tires. He becomes the new Robin.

Year 14: Jason Todd (age 16) is beaten to death by the Joker.

Year 16: Tim Drake (age 14) becomes the new Robin.

Year 17: Knightfall, Prodigal, etc.

Year 18: Contagion, No Man's Land, Final Crisis

Year 19: The events of 52

Year 20: Now. Bruce dies and comes back. Damian is 10. Bruce is 45 (but maybe physically younger after whatever the hell happened to him in the Return of Bruce Wayne). Dick is 28 or so. Jason Todd is 19 or 20, Tim is 17 or 18.

I think that if you ask a DC editor they will tell you he has been Batman for about ten years.

Assuming you mean Infinite Crisis, since Final Crisis happened after 52.

And Contagion, No Man's Land, and IC came out far enough apart that I don't think I'd group them together that closely. I'd put them more with Prodigal.

Damian is only ten?

I dont mind Batman being some grizzled 40 year old bastard. Actually, that's pretty awesome.

15 max, if they work the assumption that Bruce has been doing it since he was 19 or 20.

Damian is only ten?

Yep. Which adds to his awesomeness

So they didn't "comic age him?" That's pretty cool.

Good. That's really over-done.

Oops. Yeah. Years 17 and 18 are crazy crowded. Both Infinite and Final Crises need to be worked in there.

Luthor's presidency also screws some things up, but I wasn't following any of the titles closely enough then to figure out how that works in.

Yeah, that's the standard line, but it is impossible to make a 10 (or even a 15 year) career work with the numerous Robins.
