God damn it! After half an hour on the phone with a representative, they finally tell me that the package was never actually scanned as "out for delivery," but it was supposed to be, so there's still a chance that it will come before nine o'clock. If not, it will come tomorrow when I'm at work.

Gregory, any other Tipsters - have you seen the BBC's Sherlock? I finally watched it last week and liked it.

I've seen it and I loooooooooooooooooooved it! Really fun, solid and snappy writing, good performances (especially Tim from the Office as Dr. John Watson). I'm very much looking forward to the next series of three telemovies (which should be coming later this year).

Yeah, I enjoyed the ranting last night but why would hip, interesting people like ourselves care about or even know who Bieber, "Lady Antebellum" and so on are?

It really felt like a Thou Doest Protest Too Much! moment. I think SOMEONE secretly loves all that pop music. Poor WillieLee. He wanna dance with somebody, he wanna feel the heat with somebody.

Strange But True Fact: There are a handful of songs that stir very negative feelings for me, songs that I heard as a kid and for some reason associate them with some negative (indefinite) memory of my childhood. The song you reference is one of those songs that stirs negative feelings from my childhood. Another example is "Let's Hear It for the Boy."

What's Lady Antebellum? Sounds stupid.

Lady Antebellum is the reason we don't have real country music anymore.* Instead, country music has become "twang pop." My kingdom for a George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, or Loretta Lynn in country music these days.

I am annoyed. I ordered a bedframe. UPS screwed up and only delivered two out of three boxes last Wednesday. They came back on Thursday while I was at work. I was home until 3:30, but they came after that. I had plans to see a movie on Friday, but I canceled so I could rush home after work (which ended at noon) to make sure I was around for UPS, but they came at like ten in the morning on Friday. So today I've been sitting around my house all day waiting for the third and final attempt. They still haven't come, but they've stopped me from doing any of the things I need to do, like shopping or even showering.

I've made many a post about my contempt for UPS. My mailman will leave packages for me in a secure location so I don't have to re-arrange my schedule to be home because some people work for a living. But UPS? UPS needs my signature, and it needs to be in red ink (or blood) and sometimes they show up at 10:30am and the next time they show up at 6:30pm and screw me for trying to figure out when I might possibly expect them. What can brown do for me? Bite me.

Real country is still out there. It just doesn't play on country radio stations. You gotta DIG!

Are they hiding it on the modern jazz station? Maybe the urban R&B station? Because I live in Kentucky. There are no less than 13 country radio stations up and down my dial. And I can't find a good classic country station for the life of me. It's all Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

I'm four episodes away from finishing Dark Skies.

You know, it's actually quite good. I didn't expect much, certainly nothing more than an X-Files clone. But for someone like me (who has a strong interest and knowledge about UFO history), there's a lot to like. It's like Mad Men but instead of being set in the world of advertising, it's set in the world of government UFO investigations. It weaves real world history into its mythology, from Roswell to the JFK assassination to the Beatles on Ed Sullivan to the civil rights movement to the Warren Commission investigation into JFK's assassination to the Watts race riots and more. It also weaves real world figures into its plots, people like J. Edgar Hoover, Jack Ruby, the Beatles, Ed Sullivan, Jim Morrison, President Truman, Robert Kennedy, CIA Director Allen Dulles, Gerald Ford, and others.

I don't expect it to finish in a satisfying way, but for what it is, I dig it. Again, people who aren't serious UFO nerds need not apply, but it's a competently done genre take on UFO history and that's all right by me. :thumb:

Monday, February 21 is Day 1000 of the Beard Journal.
Join me on that date for a celebration of 1000 Days of Beard. I'll try to plan something special. Hey, it's President's Day...what else you gonna do? Also, I have a three-day weekend this weekend, so that'll give me time to maybe hopefully whip something out. I don't know what it'll be yet. I have no firm plans. I'll probably just make some crap up. Maybe I'll shave. I don't know. But we'll do something, okay? See you there! :)

I wasn't entirely on board with it, either. I had trouble investing in the show when I knew that the actor playing the lead was only going to be around one season. I gave it another shot and it won me over.

The reason I recommend Series 5 (the season that just aired) is two-fold: First, it has a new head writer and showrunner in Steven Moffat (the guy who's also overseeing Sherlock) - his stuff has been the best stuff since the show returned, IMO. Second, a new Doctor and new companion = completely fresh start. That said, it's not for everyone. At the end of the day, there is a formula and it can be cheesy. But I love it. :)

This actually sounds promising... (http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2011/02/15/jamie-bamber-to-star-in-ron-moores-magical-crime-drama-17th-precinct/)

Jamie Bamber will reunite with Battlestar Executive producer Ronald D. Moore for his new NBC pilot 17th Precinct, TVLine reports.

The British actor joins Stockard Channing in the police procedural set in Excelsior, a town where science takes a backseat to magic and the supernatural. The 37-year-old Bamber will play Caolan, an extremely focused crime-scene detective. Channing will portray Mira, a former homicide detective now working in the 17th Precinct’s robbery division.

Teased in September as “an adult Harry Potter“ — the producers don’t care for that description — 17th Precinct received a pilot commitment from NBC last month. Battlestar Galactica alum Michael Rymer will direct the pilot, which will be shot in Vancouver.

Bamber, who played Lee Adama in Moore’s Battlestar Galactica update, also starred in Law & Order: UK and Outcasts.

Oh, I agree. Broadcast networks have very little tolerance or patience for stuff like this (science fiction/fantasy). They keep trying, but none of it seems to work. From what I gather, Fringe is hanging on by a thread as far as ratings/outlook is concerned, V's ratings aren't great, and there isn't much else with a sci-fi/fantasy bent on network television at the moment except The Cape (which I'm pretty sure everybody on the planet dislikes).

This one is promising, but that's why it'll never work. :)

I have a similar story. In college I went to go play minigolf with a buddy of mine. I had a friend back home who was in a band called The Promise(d) Drive. It had 4 members. Colbert featured what was billed as LCD Soundsystem's last TV appearance on Monday, and he played "I Can Change (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW8FKkVnqng)." This was the first time I heard it, and I f'ing love it.

Of course, I'm discovering a band as they dissolve.

I like Selma. Not enough to plook her but I always thought she was the funniest baliff.

Though Roz was a great straight (wo)man.

God I love Night Court. Maybe a lot of it is nostalgia (insisted on watching it as a child, though I didn't get most of what was going on) and it's a big reason why I give anything with John Laroquette's name on it a chance, regardless of how shitty it looks.

There about three consecutive seasons when he was the funniest actor on TV, including HBO comedy specials. The episode where he can't touch the DA's daughter? Gold.

I assume you guys are all working on this now. It's really great. Use rubber bands of varying thickness. I've got the bottom inside packed with cotton for some deep end.

I also poked some holes in the top of a second box guitar for that spanish guitar sound.

I always thought of Lord of the Rings as a sort of nexus of film trilogies since it had a an X-Men guy, a Star Wars guy and on and on.

Only now did I realize that it had a Back to the Future guy.

Speaking of which, I only realized this weekend that Billy Zane was in Back to the Future II.

His show was good for the first few seasons, before the network sucked the life out of it. I liked all the Pynchon references.

That's what I hear. Not sure if I'm going to make that my local or use this as an excuse to go mail order (like my hero YPJ).

I'm a very picky comic buyer. I get a lot of stuff, and I want it to be perfect. I get a lot of oddball stuff, and I don't want to miss any of it. I get variant covers, low print indie stuff, HCs, figures, and statues. And I usually throw back issues into the mix, and comics from a couple weeks or months ago.

And in four years, Midtown has never let me down. An occasional mistake, but very easily corrected without any hassle.

I don't even bother to pre-order (though I could save more if I did). I just place my order weekly, and actually usually bi-weekly or even monthly.

I just want that to sink in - I order once a month and everything is in stock. Sometimes a "hot" item will sell out but be back in stock by the time I get around to ordering. Four years - never missed nothin'. Don't even bother pre-ordering or even ordering weekly.

Because of these numbers, we've now elected one of the biggest idiots I've ever seen to be Governor. There's real problems coming.
