Anybody signed up for the free month trial of the Amazon Prime service?
Anyone have trouble turning it off before you have to pay?
I kinda wanna try to get 2 day shipping for free on an item, cause I'm both poor and greedy.

I started using Prime on the trial. I think I remember the cancelation mechanic being pretty easy, but I never used it because once you go Prime YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK!
Also, I think you can get for free for a year if you're a student (or have a .edu email address anyway).

I am not a student, and don't wanna pay 79 dollars right now, as I am poor.
But, I am greedy.
Its a horrible combination really.

I did and it was easy. I got it again with the student promotion because I was taking an online course when the promo started.

I've done the Prime Trial. Used it this summer. I needed Office for my Mac quick and it was cheapest on Amazon. I did the trial got my stuff in less than 2 days. It was great. Then I used it to get the whole Scott Pilgrim series.
After that I turned it off. Very easy to turn off. Well worth the trial!

You think I would have the patience to wait until I heard from people, wouldn't you?

I signed up for the free month awhile back and canceled it. And I think I did it late, but they still credited the entire amount (I think since I hadn't placed an order).

I've had Prime the past three years. I've also done the math on everything the family orders from Amazon, and with the free shipping, we come out ahead on the deal. Plus, there are some things I like to get next day delivery, and those costs are pretty soft with Prime.

I did the free trial and had no problem cancelling before they charged the fee. I got asked if I would like another free trial a little while after and did it again. I think I've done it 3 times so far and it's lovely. Can't justify the expense for becoming a full time member but when the free trials roll around, if you need something I highly recommend it. :)

I have it and I love it. I always ended up doing a little bit of rush shipping every year for last minute gifts, so the math definitely worked out for me. Also, I no longer try and fill up my cart to reach the free shipping level. I just put what I want in my cart, checkout and it's at my door two days later.
The free same-day as release delivery for video games is nice, too.

I'm 99% sure you can go into your account settings and tell it not to auto-renew even before your time is up without cancelling the free trial.

Yep.
As soon as you sign up for a free Prime trial, you can go into "Manage Prime Membership", turn off auto-renew, and bam, that's it.
I live so close to a shipping center that things actually arrive to me just as fast with the free super saver shipping, so the only real benefit of Prime for me is if I want something that's under $25, and I don't wanna pay for shipping (though there's almost always something else I can add anyway), and same day release delivery for games.

The free trials are great, but I wouldn't pay for it. I love getting a trial, and then preordering as much as possible.

I am pretty sure there is some play to select "auto renew" and you just make sure that is not selected.

Yeah, we order enough stuff that it is worth having to us. And some items, we receive the same day it was shipped.

Yea, same here. Plus, you can have multiple amazon accounts and addresses under one prime membership. So me, my mom, and my 2 sisters all share the same membership, but with out respective accounts and differing addresses. Totally worth it.

Amazon Prime now includes streaming of about 5,000 movies and TV shows.
TV highlights appear to be Dr. Who and Ken Burns.

Yeah, it's pretty neat. I've been trying to figure out how to get them to play on my TV, through tivo or one of my game consoles, but no luck so far.

I have signed up for free trials in the past, and was able to disable auto-renew right away. I signed up a couple of months ago, and forgot do turn off auto-renew and used Prime for an order (so I can no longer cancel :-( , so as of now, I am a paying member.
I like the free 2-day shipping, but would probably not have paid for it.
The streaming would make it worthwhile if I could get to it from my TiVo or X-box. I just don't see the point of watching movies on my smaller, inferior monitor in my office. Hopefully one of these 2 will get with the program and provide access soon...
My advice is if you don't want to pay for it turn off auto-renew AS SOON AS YOU SIGN UP. While you are still thinking about it. That way you won't forget. I thought I had turned it off, but I was remembering a previous trial membership.

And, students should be studying.
