You crazy, Ray.
I was fully primed to love this movie, and yet I absolutely loathed it.
Good choices. I completely forgot about the Pop Art Museum sound effects
I just remember being blown away by the Pop Art scene when I first read it.
It really stood out to me, and was the first time I was really blown away by a Kubert (other than Joe). Yes, I've liked Kubert art, but was never really blown away it before (sorry Aaron, I just keep adding up the wrongs today don't I? :surrend:)

I doubt we'll see Yogi but I think Kevin James is funny and wouldn't mind if they want to see Zoo Keeper
Zoo Keeper looks like it could be funny. I liked Mall Cop, but I'm not really interested in a Dr. Doolittle remake with more pratfalls.
I can't believe how faithful Yogi Bear looks to the cartoon.

One of these days I'll track down more Morrison Batman. For the moment though, all I've bothered to follow is Batman and Robin.
Why is Damien liked while Jason Todd was universally despised? Have we changed so much that a punk ass Robin is easier to take now?
Speaking for myself, I think it's more than there's an actual tie to Bruce.
So, you're stuck with him, as such, he grows on you, and there are moments where he does shine through. Especially when he gets all quiet and respectful of his dad, etc.
Whereas Todd was always an annoying brat and you didn't know why Bruce put up with it.
It may also be that Todd talked the talk but a crowbar showed him his place.. whereas Damian talks a good talk and can actually back it up.

I was very nervous at the start. I thought it began very slowly, and yes, neither character was very likable at that point. But, by the end, I was laughing my ass off.

Yeah, I'd like to see a few 8 pagers where some hero teams up with the new hero Gravedigger only to have Batman come by on the last page to drag him back to Arkham while the other hero scratches his head.
That would be hilarious.
I hated Grown ups SOOOOO much...
I see no reason to see any of the Kevin James cannon that Andrew listed.
I so far remain blissfully unaware of most of the Kevin James filmography.
I was almost tempted to see Paul Blart though because I really like stand-up comedian Adam Ferrara, but I remained strong.
Damian's jerkassery is mainly played for laughs.
There's that also :D

It's fantastic on it's own but as paired as an ending to what he began in his initial Batman run it becomes even more impressive

I'd add that Damian is growing as a character. When he was first introduced all the way through RIP I wanted him to get the crowbar treatment.
However we see him start to mature and redeem himself. Something we've never seen from Jason Todd.

I want to see someone on The Price Is Right just mortified when someone spins a bigger number to go to showcase showdown. They're almost in, and then the thing just makes it to the perfect number.
Then it shows Drew Carey and the winner and you hear this blood curdling scream off camera going, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
I think Batman and Robin will read better the second time without the delays, too.
Well, this weekend I read:
Batman and Son
Batman RIP
Batman and Robin
(I think I missed something -- any other TPBs of Grant's Batman I'm missing?)
But yeah, it reads a lot better collected, IMO.

The Gail boards keep giving and giving and giving. Here is a link to a blog set up by a comic shop owner. Basically horrible customer stories dealing with the freaks that frequent his store accompanied by some art. I love it so much.

It's sad that some of those people exist.
He looks just like you Andrew! WOW!
Nah, Andrew doesn't look like that at all.
I need to talk to the creator of that strip ASAP. I want those in The Gathering now!

Batman: The Black Glove is the one that jumps to mind.
It had the best art of the Batman run with an arc drawn by JH Williams III.
It also fills the gap between Batman and Son and RIP. It introduces John Mayhew and the Black Glove.

Yeah, that was possibly Sandler's worst movie since he stopped actually playing retarded.
I honestly like Sandler, at times. That movie had NO redeeming qualities. I tried forcing a couple laughs, but I really couldn't stomach it.
That scene where they check out the girl's ass as she works on the car? That was mildly amusing in the trailer. But in the movie? When it goes on for like five minutes? It just reminds me of the awkward moments where my Dad and his drinking buddies have checked out girls my age. It's weird and creepy.
I always hated schniders movies. Then I saw Big Stan and that was hysterical!
I've never heard of that one.
Oh, no question. Unless you've never opened your mouth in a comic store, you've pulled one of these.
I try not to.
It's tough because the store found out I did reviews online once.. so now I get asked about all the rumors and opinions on stuff.
I hate getting the hard sale on something too.. cause you can tell they're genuinely excited/happy about a creator, but they're just not my cup of tea or something I'm interested in.
I feel bad, sometimes I'll say I get a review copy so I don't have to buy something they're pitching. I hate saying each week, "Maybe next week I'll give it a shot"
I've been thinking about trying my hand at writing some superhero stuff.
I have a character in mind (one of my own), now to come up with a suitable story.

I agree with you. My son loved it (Minion was his favorite character), and I thought it was pretty good too.
Although I was cursing under my breath as he laughed his ass off at the Yogi Bear trailer, and the trailer for Kevin James' The Zoo Keeper. Maybe those will be Mommy/Owen movies as opposed to Daddy/Owen movies. But he's six so those movies are aimed squarely at him. :surrend:

Yep, I'm watching Family Guy.
I just saw a movie script for something he wrote called TED.
Having honed his buddy-comedy chops in The Other Guys, Mark Wahlberg is reportedly negotiating to star opposite a life-sized teddy bear in Ted, the R-rated directorial debut of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Wahlberg will play a Boston everyman who made a wish as a child that his favorite stuffed animal could come to life. Now grown up, the bear, voiced by MacFarlane, is a foul-mouthed, lazy rabble-rouser and a drag on Wahlberg’s adult world.
Nothing like that yet, but it feels very Family Guy-ish.
It's framed by a current aged Peter Falk telling the story to a current aged Fred Savage who's in bed, sick.
Amusing stuff so far.

Can't wait to see her in some.
I've been thinking about trying my hand at writing some superhero stuff.
I have a character in mind (one of my own), now to come up with a suitable story.
I thought about it, one idea keeps coming to mind.. not sure if it's been done or not.. and since I'll probably never get around to it, free idea time
The idea is to focus on the small time bad guy, like BKV's The Hood. Except this guy is clearly out of his league, incompetent, frustrated, stuck with bad luck.. maybe a dash of Whedon's Dr. Horrible, I suppose.
Anyways, eventually, one day everything clicks. It starts small, lucky little coincidences, he wins $50 on the lottery, one of those days where everything goes right.
He starts getting these mysterious messages -- either on the fridge, or in the mailbox. Someone's helping him. Maybe something like The Incredibles where he gets an Ipad like device in the mail, etc.
Eventually we find out that someone from the future is trying to prevent their timeline from occuring, and has been helping him in an attempt to prevent said future. Of course, in doing so, they're ensuring it. We see him slowly start to evolve into a powerful bad guy and small questionable actions along the way, etc.
Something to yank the rug out from people an arc or so in, ala Invincible, and flip things around so you're reading about a bad guy instead of a good guy, etc. Presumably you'd introduce someone to stop him at that point, ala Irredeemable/etc.
Idaknow.. babbling.

Some random Batman & Robin thoughts.
First, the last issue kindof dissapointed me. It wasn't bad, but..
The way people were talking about the ending, I was expecting more. There were a few potentially huge things that looked possible, and then we basically got a logical lead in to Batman Inc.
Second earlier in the thread people were wondering why Damian is more popular and better recieved than Jason Todd. I think one thing is that at the time it happened Todd replaced Robin, while Damian appeared when Robin was clearly a title that is passed on and the previous popular Robins were as such becoming promoted.
Thirdly, not entirely B&R related, but am I the only one who thinks multiple Batman titles that don't indicate the Batman involved is an odd idea? :)

I dunno. I thought Morrison started big, went crazy with the entire run of Batman and Robin and then ended it huge.
Reinterpretation of Milligan's Dark Nighti/Dark City, Batman and his 'sons' team up in an epic fight scene against the 99 fiends, Batman turns the tables on Hurt in the cave, Dick turns the tables on Pyg, Damian becomes a super hero and stops a nuke, Joker buries Hurt alive and gets one punched by Bruce and then Bruce outs himself as the man responsible for financing Batman.
I don't know how much more big moments could have put into it.

And it doesn't need to be perfect to be the best Batman run of all time.

Rough break on Saturday, MLC. We needed that win more than you did, though.
On Hockey Night In Canada, they had stats up on the screen early in the first period that said that since 2007-2008 the Sabres have around a .610 winning percentage with Miller in net. With anyone other than Miller in net? It's around a .337 win percentage. That's unreal.
That said, I wanted to kick my TV screen in at the end of the third period. They just can't score. I think only four or five teams in the East have given up less goals against than the Leafs, while only one or two teams have scored less goals for than the Leafs. As my old PS1 NHL game announcer used to say, "They just can't buy a goal tonight!"
Second earlier in the thread people were wondering why Damian is more popular and better recieved than Jason Todd. I think one thing is that at the time it happened Todd replaced Robin, while Damian appeared when Robin was clearly a title that is passed on and the previous popular Robins were as such becoming promoted.
I don't remember those days, but was Jason presented as the only Robin at the time?
If so, then yeah, that might be something too.
I like that it introduced some drama to the family dynamic.. Tim sort of took being the adopted son for granted in a way and felt genuine slight when Damian showed up and he didn't even get a courtesy call.
Then again, Tim taking on that Red Robin thing shoots that down.. but early issues gave the impression to me that they're weren't saying "Damian is Robin, deal with it fans" whereas now, DC IS saying that :D
Thirdly, not entirely B&R related, but am I the only one who thinks multiple Batman titles that don't indicate the Batman involved is an odd idea? :)
Wouldn't be the first comic to do so.
All of the multi title boks tend to go through that period for some reason.
You know why I can't call Morrison's Batman run perfect?
Jezebel fucking Jet.
Very good point.
I would say that Morrison's current run on Batman should be considered one of the more iconic takes to go with PAD's Hulk, Simonson's Thor, John's GL, etc.
It's kind of nice to see that there's clearly some goal in the works, rather than just cliched self contained stories that go nowhere, and feel like the creator is just phoning it in to collect a paycheck.

It's definitely up there.
I'd probably put it as #3 in current runs, behind Johns' GL and Bendis on USM. The sheer amount of ideas and ambition in it deserves a ton of credit.

I'm surprised it's that high. For whatever reason, the Sabres play like shit in front of our back-ups, Lalime in particular. And Lalime really is not that bad.
Enroth stood on his fucking HEAD Saturday night. I have cousins in Canada, so it almost makes me feel bad. You guys just have the hardest damn time against us. Even this season, when it seems like you guys are doing pretty well.

I will say the script is sooooooooooo much better having worked with Aaron. His suggestions really made the script leaner and much faster paced.
A note I would pass on to any would be Gatherers:
If you are a writer only, listen to your artist if he/she makes suggestions. Comics are a collaberative medium, and who wants an artist pissed off about what he/she has to draw?
Aaron really made the script better with his suggestions. I re-read my first draft recently and was shocked by how much better it is now. I'm really proud of it now, and Aaron is really going to kick ass on the pages.

One of the things I like about Damian is how after years of taking in young wards, Bruce had an actual son on the scene, and that son eventually becomes Robin. It will be interesting to see, after months of Damian being snotty to Dick, how he will act if paired with Bruce-Bats at times. That I can't wait to see.

I still want to see Sasha's story and Fake Pat's story! Never mind this Gail person.
Gail rhymes with fail. Sasha rhymes with awesome!

Goodbye thread. Have a great afternoon and see you all on the other side.
Bye bye Andrew. Also Iron Man is great but it needs more Tony Stark :)
Let's just all talk about how awesome Aladdin Sane is.
I like Ziggy better, and Diamond Dogs has "Rebel, Rebel" which is my favorite song by Bowie.
Speaking of Bowie, "Sound and Vision" will be the soundtrack to the zombie apocalypse.

His name was always Buddy (got got du aaah aah aah)
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like Twig the Wonder Kid (got got du aaah)
And turn her face away
She's uncertain if she likes him (got got du aaah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It's a crash course for the ravers (got got du aaah)
It's a Drive-in Saturday
