Actually, less involved. I think they are going from Producer/Writer to just writer.

I pretty much hated it.
I'm tired of seeing 'poor tortured Sam' and I'm tired of seeing Dean running around trying to save him. It's been done, there is nowhere else to go with that.
Just put Sam and Dean back in the Impala already. All I want is to see them back on the road kicking monster ass.

I liked this episode for one reason: Death.
Anytime he shows up, there are going to be some pretty classic and intense words bandied about. He's really bigger than them all and doesn't try to hide it.
I would love it if there was a show centered around him with him occasionally eating a Chicago style pizza or a hambuger and pickle chips.
Give me him or Tessa in any episode and I am a happy camper.

I watched all of season 7 (so far) this week and I have to say, I'm enjoying it a lot more than season 6. Not that it comes close to the Kripke seasons, but I like that there is a clearer direction for this season (so much of last season seemed to drag on endlessly).
I have to wonder, though, that can't be the end for Cass, right? It seems like his popularity is what resulted in them continuing with the Angels story after the Apocalypse wrapped up, since having an Angel showing up to battles with Yetis wouldn't be as thrilling, so it seems weird that now they would just write him out so anti climatically.
Also, I can't remember, but did they ever say what happened to original God in this universe? I know he left heaven, but a "where is he now" thing? I remember there was something with Sam or Dean having a necklace that could track God but I can't remember how that played out.

They strongly hinted that the prophet from season 5 (the one that wrote the terrible supernatural books, and narated the season 5 finale) was God.
Watch the final scene he's in. When he wraps up the 'story' he disappears in a puff of a white smoke with a knowing nod/wink to the audience.
So I've always believed him to be God. Go back and watch the S5 finale again. Since God missing was part of the kripke story line, it only makes sense that kripke would wrap up all the threads from his 5 seasons.
So just like when he was hiding in plain sight, God doesn't want to be found now so no one can find him.

i believe that prophets don't die, they ascend into heaven, meaning they don't die to get there, they just go. so the prophet that writes the books just gets transfered to heaven.

additionally: this season has sort of sucked. it's this constant back and forth about dean not being right. no he's fine. no he's troubled. no he's fine. wait sam is fucked. no he's fine. no he's fucked. no wait he's fine...sorta...
and
leviathon using food to subjugate humans so that they become complacent and they can, i'm assuming, just use them as easy food? wtf? These things are supposedly more powerful than crowley by a whole bunch, can't die, and are leagues stronger than any other bad guy, and yet they're hiding and trying to work behind the scenes?
I dunno, the show was left on a bad foot after kripe left. he had this 5 year storyline that concluded, the show can't just start from square one by slowly building another epic 5 year storyline (what's more epic than building up to a battle between heaven and hell with humanity caught in the middle!!!) without losing fans.
eh, we'll see how the whole leviathan thing pans out, i want to be wrong that there's some great payoff, but i doubt it.

Agreed on all counts. I still enjoy it for the most part, but I kinda wish they'd ended it after the 5th season. Also, there are hardly any "fun" episodes anymore. Like "Mystery Spot" for example, or the one with the suicidal teddy bear.
The most "fun" they've had with it lately is Cass going after hypocritical religious nuts.

I do too, but I think it's due to me being a fan of the show and the subject matter and not the actual product they're putting out.
Also the solution for leviathan, while still in line with their usual use of a Deus ex machina, was sort of lame.

This blew my mind, because I was sure the "haunting" incidents started even before Bobby died, like when the spoon bent in the small town psychic slayings when Sam and Dean were fighting about Dean killing the girl from Firefly. I guess that was done by that lame mystic who got impaled on all his cutlery.

I still like the show, but it's really starting to get that Buffy Season 6 and 7 'this isn't as good as it used to be and should end before I outright don't like it'. Chuck and Nip Tuck stuck around too long and I ended up hating the shows so hopefully that doesn't happen to Supernatural and they get their groove back, but I don't know if they can at this point.

Potential good news - they let the showrunner go.
Sera Gamble took over when Eric Kripke left after season 5. Jeremy Carver is replacing her now, he's the guy who has been running the American version of 'Being Human' and he used to work on 'Supernatural' from seasons 3-5 (back when the series was good).
Here's hoping he has a few good idea's for where to take the story.

Yeah I've been a huge fan, but the downward spiral the show has been on has made me really start to consider if I'm even watching next season.
Which sucks because Supernatural used to be my favorite show on TV.
I might bitch and yell about Angel ending like it did, but damn if it didn't go out with me wanting more (and still do to this day).
In hindsight I'd rather a show go out strong like Angel did, then to fizzle and sit around hoping it gets cancelled just so I can see how it ends.

seasons 1-5 were awesome. So so so so good. Like having a 5 course meal, each item better than the next and you top it off with a thick prime steak (or whatever is your notion of awesome food).
And then season 6 was sort of like your favorite cereal. But, you ate it right after the steak when you were full. so, it was...sorta eh.
Then season 7 was like a BLT. but, the bread wasn't great, but the bacon was real good.
Anywho I'm hungry. The point is season 6 and 7 had none threatening bad guys, which sort of went no where. I mean, the lead up to season 5? Amazing. Then season 6's bad guy? Meh at best, no real threat. Season 7's bad guy? Just kind of zany. I mean:
A race of beings more powerful than angels and their whole plan is to just eat humanity? That's it? To exist and eat humanity? Fucking, lucifer wanted to start armageddon. and leviathan wanted to just have cozy meals? Not just meals, but comfortable meals? Because basically these things could be hit by missiles and nothing could hurt them. well, aside from some Palmolive. but, they just didn't want to eat people as they saw fit? They could shape change and just move on, but they wanted to just eat humans? What makes humans more desirable than say, cows or pigs? Ugh.
The turn for Bobby was pretty cool, and the angels and demons coming back were kinda cool. But leviathan, and some super weapon? Eesh. The only sad part is dick roman is gone. That actor was great, I enjoyed every second he was on screen. Though the end to the season finale was sort of cool. Nice to see where that goes.
My thought is next season is the last season, and they're going to find God eventually. Perhaps they'll find death again. If there was ever a "best" character on that show, it's that dude. Well, their dad was pretty cool too. Anywho, they'll probably find God, or the winchesters are going to die and then go to heaven. But probably find God and he'll explain how all his creatures just exist, it's their job to find some sort of middle ground. Then Sam and Dean say that's someone elses job, and they go back to hunting.

seasons 1-5 were awesome.
To be fair, it's kinda tough to follow up fighting Lucifer. But yeah, the show kinda started slowly falling apart when Gamble took over. Fortunately, she isn't running it anymore.

true, but, they could have followed it up WITHOUT going completely goofy.
It's like getting out of a ferarri, and getting into a 370Z. You're thinking "Ok, not bad..." but the z is colored pink and plays aud lang syne everytime you hit the gas.
Ok I took it too far, I'm sorry.
Anywho, they could have atleast followed it up with something not so....convoluted.

he was the assistant producer or something for season 5, I have some hope.
But, i doubt it'll make it through season 8. It would have to be something radical. Plus how many shows, let alone a serialized drama about monsters, lasted 10 seasons?

The X-Files? Well, nine and 2 movies, and given the quality of the latter seasons, I'm not sure how good an example that is.

I'm not really a fan of the found footage genre but this weeks episode won me over by the end.

I'm beginning to think that the creators of Supernatural are contractually obligated to add a new potential slash partner for Dean every 2 seasons. It's the only explanation I have for Benny's presence on this show ...

Sam: "His body showed clear signs that he was killed by belladonna."
Dean and Charlie: "The pornstar!?!?!"
Sam after doing a double take: "The poison." *Looks at both of them*
Dean and Charlie looking disappointed: "Oh."

Guh. So much potential. But they went with the old cliche. I hate when they introduce someone new in an episode
And just kill him off. It would have been better that Henry lived and created a new dynamic. This Men of Letters thing needs to be explored.

No, those were the Norse gods. Loki, Odin, Thor, ect.
Zues is a Greek god.

And it looks like there were more than some of the Norse gods in that episode. I just checked to remind myself and there were a few others, like Kali, there.

According to the Supernatural wiki the only gods present at the motel were Baldur, Kali, Ganesh, Odin, Zao Shen, Mercury and Baron Samedi (well, and Loki, but I don't know if that counts, since he was actually Gabriel).

Why are they friends with Meg now? I still don't get it.
She's the reason Bobby was paralyzed. She's the one who sent the hell hounds that killed Ellen and Jo. Teaming up with her occasionally, out of necessity, I get but joking around with her and having little heart to heart talks? That's gross.
not that it really matters if she died just now

Was last nights episode the most pun filled and pop culture referenced episode. It felt like every line had some pop culture reference up until the end when dean reference not one but two movies in the same line. LOTR and Rudy.
