I'm going to be in northern California for a few days at the end of October and wanted to ask if anyone here's familiar with the area or had recommendations of things to do. I'm flying into Sacramento, and am definitely going to the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, and I'm going to concerts in Napa and Grass Valley, but will also have some free time for other sightseeing.
Any recommendations?
Has anyone made the drive from Sacramento to Tahoe? If so, how is it? I've been to Tahoe before and would love to go back for a quick visit -- wondering how feasible a day trip to Tahoe from Sacramento would be.
Any advice is appreciated!

Well yeah, that goes without saying.

Traffic is pretty rough on the drive from Sacramento to Tahoe. I haven't been since I was a kid, but it has to be 2-3 hours at least, especially on the weekend.

That's good to know. If I went to Tahoe, it would be on the last full day of my trip, where I'd be starting out in the morning in Grass Valley and would need to spend the night in Sacramento for a flight out the next morning. So I'm trying to decide what to do between leaving Grass Valley in the a.m. and spending the night in Sacramento. Maybe Tahoe is too ambitious.

If you're of a literary bent and have the time, there are lots of Steinbeck-related things to do in the Monterey area.
