So, I'm in Santa Monica for the next 8 days on business. Give me the low down. I'm staying in between the beach and the 3rd st promenade. What are some good places to eat, drink? What should I check out?

Betcha Phillip Clark is playing a gig!
Also, you can go out for an awesome Steak dinner and see 'ole Bald Steve rip it up on bass.
As for spots to drink: Father's Office is pretty great. Folks argue all the time about "The best burger in LA"-- and although it might not be "the best," it's name is mentioned all the time. Worth checking out.
I'll turn it over to the west side fools for more suggestions. I'm a Hollywood guy.

Do you have a car? And do you want things to do during the day, or just at night?

Father's Office is pretty good. Burgers are OK, but I love their ribs. The Library Alehouse is over in that area as well, which is a good spot. Westwood has some fine establishments as well. Also lots of good restaurants and bars up and down Main St. in Santa Monica.
And as has been a topic on the board recently, if you've never had an In N Out burger, definitely go hunt one of those down.

I do have a car but i would rather not drive if i don't have to. I'm in the office most of the day but I have the weekend off. I went to Fathers office last time I was here and dug it. I'm also planning on going to Dan Tana's for drinks, that place was cool.

Dan Tana's is right around the corner from my house, I always have a fun time there. The ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood is probably the best theatre in the country, so check that out if you want to see a movie. Look for some of the food trucks like the Grilled Cheese Truck, the Kogi truck, or the Dim Sum truck, they're sometimes on the west Diderot, particularly Venice which is just south of you. The Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre is right by Los Feliz and has the best live comedy (standup, improv, or sketch) in town. The Cat & Fiddle is a great bar on Sunset in Hollywood. Best Burger is Umami Burger (they have a few locations, including one in the Fred Segal store in Santa Monica). El Cholo on Wilshire in Santa Monica is good for Mexican food. La Scala in Brentwood has an amazing chopped salad.
