And no it CAN'T be a Gail comic. :) This is a bit of a tribute to Secret Six I surmise...
For my money I guess it'd have to be Existence 2.0 or Batman Arkham Asylum.

The first time I read Gyo, I had nightmares about it for a long time.
I actually think it's one of Junji Ito's lesser works by a long shot, but the central premise (undead marine life like sharks, fish and eels gaining robotic limbs to come on land and kill people) was just such hardcore nightmare feul that it really hit hard.
The other is probably Alan Moore's Brought To Light, terrifying real world stuff.

Batman Arkham Asylum.
I didn't find this disturbing. Did I not get it or something? Crap, I gotta read this again.
I can't think of anything. Its mostly been fun. Maybe I've just been staying away from disturbing stuff. I heard Secret Six is pretty messed up though so I gotta check it out.

These are purely down to the age I was when I read them, and the effect they had on me as a result, but they still freaked me the hell out as a kid.
OK, you'll need some background first. Here in the UK, Marvel had the lion's share of the reprint comics market, mainly because they set up their own British offices. However, there were a few sub-licensed DC titles, published by Titan, I think. One was DC Zone <can't remember the name of its sister title though> and it had reprints of the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans, and Grant Morrison's Animal Man, amongst others. It even threw in pages from DC Who's Who! Anyway, one issue in particular pretty much fucked me up as a kid. NTT was mid-way through the Trigon story, and I was terrified by that in general and Psimon's origin specifically, while the Animal Man part was the issue where Buddy's family is threatened by the redneck hunters, and some kittens they were nursing got killed. To this day, I can't read those stories without a flashback shiver.
A little later, I'd picked up some back issues of JLE <the American comics, not reprints> from a market stall, which had the team in some kind of Starro arc. I can't remember the details but the League was mostly possessed by the starfish, only a few remained free and they were on the run, hunted by their friends. The tension of the story, the horror of an implacable enemy that took over the minds of everyone around you.... literally gave me a nightmare after reading it.

Y The Last Man: Although there's a lot to be disturbed about in the story, the reveal about Yorrik's sister completely shook me and I couldn't pick up the second volume of the comic to read again until after I'd finished the series and some of the "damage" had been undone.
I thought the ever so subtle build up, the carefully chosen snippets of information, the author's awareness of the meta-context, her name, was brilliantly manipulative writing; like Sarah Waters' book Affinity I didn't see it coming, or I had dropped my guard by that point, and the author was able to hold a mirror up to my sense of self and capture it at it's most exposed. It took me a few days to come to terms with the revelation, but it made the slow, painful and, in some ways, incomplete journey the character takes all the sweeter and more poigniant. I was moved to tears by the end, because I had craved that glimmer of hope so much: it was entirely personal.
My apologies if that sounds cryptic, but I'm doing my best to avoid outright spoilers :)

Battle Royale. The absolutely fucked up thing is that it's not too far off in terms of the whole "People turning into absolutely sadistic monsters" idea. The acts of cruelty by some of the kids are just shocking.
And yes, Y: The Last Man has some seriously fucked up sequences in it as well. And a lot of it is just very well-rendered.
But probably my number 1? The issue of Teen Titans where Wonder Dog mauls Wendy and kills Marvin. I'm no fan of the Superfriends, but that seemed a lvery over-the-top, and yet another example of DC trying to be dark for the sake of dark.

I'd have to say that how Frank kills the hench-woman was more disturbing, for me. The way he kept throwing her face first into the reinforced glass of the high rise until it eventually caved in and she fell to her death was brutal.
Actually, just that entire arc was brutally disturbing.

It was indeed a fantastic arc. If I had to choose, I'd probably rank it my favourite of Ennis's MAX Punisher story arcs, and second favourite story just behind The Cell one-shot.

I just dug out the issue to check, and it was Aaron, but it was during the Ennis era of the book, so easy mistake. I actually thought it was Ennis myself for a bit. It was Jason Aaron, Roland Boschi on art and Chris Bachelo on cover detail.

I was kinda partial to the Force of Nature one-shot too. But purely for the opening page.
"Harpooning a man isn't as easy as you'd think." :D

When I was in my early teens one of my I stumbled on a comic one of my brothers called "Faust" (I had to look it up because I could only remember the way the character looked).
I don't think I actually finished reading it because there were gallons of blood, intestines being spilled on the floor and graphic sex. Things I was much to young for at the time and that I couldn't quite process were in a comic.

This might seem tame in comparison to other stuff already listed, but The Killing Joke is really creepy. The whole Barbara Gordon thing really freaks me out, mostly because it's something that could actually happen in real life.
I'm trying to think of a disturbing manga, but I usually stick to comedy and romance (oh, and yaoi ). I think some of Mick Takeuchi's work has some really messed up stuff in them. I love that she mixes creepy supernatural stuff with romance, but some images are really messed up. Like in Bound Beauty there's a creepy ghost child whose "unfinished business" is based on his abusive father. That was disturbing on many layers. Also, there's a guy in A Wise Man Sleeps who killed his wife and child and kept them in a giant freezer so they wouldn't leave him. The creepiest part was that he seemed like a really nice, normal guy until you saw what was going on inside his house. There were a lot of creepy ghosts in A Wise Man Sleeps, actually. The basic premise is that jewels can be haunted by previous owners, so I've never looked at jewelry the same again since. :mistrust:

The prose issue by Morrison? Brilliant. Also Hurt's intro in the beginning of the Club of Heroes arc- when he was skinning a man (presumably Mangrove Pierce?) alive.

That reminds me of Moon Knight and his penchant to rip off people's faces.
And the Flamingo's to eat faces.

Yeaaaaaaaaah that arc was pretty unforgettable. Or how about the Legionary's death or Wingman's monologue?

Flamingo... Yuck... How about every scene with Joker in Batman R.I.P? Especially the scene with his slicing his tongue in two.

I thought the Julius Caesar homage was awesome- and definitely liked Wingman's monologue. Morrison has been nothing short of brilliant.

Yeah, I was blown away. Always looking into the symbolism, as I wasn't sure what Joker was saying was the truth because a forked tongue tends to mean the person is a liar.

I never read the first part of Club of Heroes yet. You got to see the skinning happen? Damn, I remember Hurt alluded to it in RIP but man.

The 24 hours issue of the Sandman, where those people were stuck on the diner and forced to do things.
And it was done so damn well, too. Shudder.

Aww sorry for spoiling it man. Should of used spoiler tags. It's truly a great story though, and with amazing art by the best DC artist and maybe the best in comics period- J.H. Williams III.

It's alright, I read the last issue so I knew what happened, just no the details.

the unfunnies
the mixture of harmless looking looney toon like characters and the horrific things those characters do or suffer through it really unsettling.
The LCS I hang out at refused to carry the series after the manager read the first issue.
But yeah that one was all kinds of messed up.

The 24 hour diner Sandman issue
Pretty much anything involving brutality and children. One of the new Ultimate Avengers books made me drop the series, when Red Skull makes AIM eat each other and the whole Red Wasp flashback In Ultimate Comics: Avengers #5, a flashback reveals that she was Petra, the wife of a Georgian activist. One day the Red Skull, kidnapped them, held the couple's child at gunpoint, and forced her to kill her husband to save her child. She does so, only for the Red Skull to throw her infant out a window, and then order his men to rape her.
The Ultimate Hawkeye family issue too.

Yep, mine too. At least my first one. One of the single greatest horror comics.
Also agreed about Brunetti and Uzumaki.
I'd also include Richard Corben's art, specifically on Bigfoot with Niles and Rob Zombie. Looking at his art is always like getting hit with flesh in the face and more so in this book.
