Just watched the first episode...kinda mixed feelings about it. They had an attack on the colony using pepper spray. I think there would have been more injuries of course.

I am liking the "Mcgiver" type stuff they are having to do to survive, that part is kinda cool.

One part they found a truck with these pigs in the back..maggots everywhere...finally someone got into the truck and found salami and other good meat behind the pigs...I thought that was a telling point about scavaging.

I liked it up until the attack scene. Knowing that they have to hold back is going to take some of the tension. If that had been a real situation and I had been on the colony I would have worked at killing the attackers.

I watched the first episode. Those folks better set up security measures and start using their heads fast.

I watched Tuesday's episode last night.

My opinion of George went up quite a bit with his bellows & forge design and implementation. I was also impressed with his metalworking skills.

The introductions of the two new volunteers and the riverboat trader were pretty interesting.

Yeah it is getting interesting...and I keep wondering what they will think up next...

Yes, I'm watching. Really, the "fighting" was the least interesting thing on any episode. The biodiesel project was the best viewing, in all its gory glory.

You know, Jim's bio describes him as a survivalist that has in the past, for fun, been dropped off in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a knife to survive with for days.

I'm calling BS.

How does a survivalist come back from a bayou, literally teaming with life, with nothing but a turtle? He can't catch fish, doesn't know how to set snares or traps, etc.

These people need to get more creative with their food options.

As for the next episode teaser...I don't know how willing I'd be to trade away precious supplies for someone stupid enough to wander off on their own in a hostile environment. Especially since I know they can't be harmed in any way.

Yeah that whole "gonna have to trade to get her back thing"...You know what would really happen...it is a side of the story that they are ignoring...I would have just had her be done and off the show. They could have found a bloody shirt or something.

The mental stuff they talk about using the "experts" is interesting about group dynamics and stresses is interesting. Trouble is the producers seem to have a clear line that they won't simulate. I can't believe that a group wouldn't have someone die at some point, considering the competing groups in the area.

I was just thinking that they should introduce paint ball guns...

Well, there is a danger there unless properly protected. You could easily take out someone's eye with a stray shot from a paintball gun.

Projectiles of any kind in combat would be very dangerous.

Ok so they got a windmill going...anyone else think that's gonna attract others?

Probably, since this season is hitting up the "hostile outsiders" theme so heavily.

I'd like it better if they skimp on the "realism" of that (I mean if it was really real, those outsiders would be KILLING them, right?) and just put these people more in a position for us to see them invent and build MORE stuff. THAT'S the money shot, not the fake violent conflicts.

Yeah, they are trying to amp up the tension. It is not really working for me either.

Because some days you just don't catch anything regardless of you hunting or fishing skills, or how much life might be in the area, that's the way it goes. Also setting snares also makes it easy for anyone else to grab your catch.

All in all I thought this was better then last season, the colony seems to be made up of a broader range of people for this experiment. As I recall last seasons colony consisted of a Doctor, a Nurse, a martial arts instructor, a couple of contractors and a bunch of other people with degrees in engineering and what not. And there base of operations was a factory that only had a few ways in or out.

I was thinking to myself, "How does this prove anything if your colony consists of a bunch of experts in an area that anyone could quickly fortify?"

Dealing with violence would be something that would be expected, also I wouldn't call those conflicts "fake" non lethal yes but hardly fake. Violence doesn't have to lethal to be real. Just ask the girl who was abducted in the last show.
