...featuring Thug, a story by Gail Simone. Wondering if anyone has read this book yet.

Mine arrived last week, and I just haven't had a moment to read it - but will probably start tonight. Looking forward to your story, Gail...though I might start with Joe Mallozzi's, since I promised him.

And stories by Paul Cornell and Marjorie Liu....

Yeah, going to be getting this eventually.

The book is getting some really positive reviews, too. I just don't know how I'll handle superheroes without the pictures. :p

You're a doll, Joe. I haven't read all the stories yet, but looking forward to it!

When Lou sent me the advance draft for proofreading purposes, I ended up reading the entire anthology over two days. A terrific collection of short fiction but "Thug" really stood out as a story that was both clever and very touching. Well done.

Okie dokie, Joe...I took your advice and read Gail's story first.

And...oh, my...

Gail - I think this is the first thing I've ever read of yours (seeing as how I'm not a DC reader). This story just might encourage me to look into some of your other works. Thug was beautiful - touching, sad, funny... a very emotional story, without being a depressing story. I LOVED the writing style - loved the first person and how I could just hear his voice in my head. I literally could not put it down (and Joe knows from previous discussions how my ADD often has me bored with a book just a page or two in)...I just read and read and read, wanting to know what was happening on the next page. Good thing it was short, or I'd be going to bed at 6 am, instead of ...*looks at clock*...3 am. :p

Well, it was well-worth the read. Thanks so much for writing that story - it was lovely.

Das, I am delighted to hear you liked it. Truthfully, I haven't written much prose for a while and haven't attempted to have any of it published, so you just have to jump off a cliff and hope there's water below, if you know what I mean. But the response seems really good, so I am happy!

And for those unfamiliar with Joseph Mallozzi, he is the highly regarded producer and writer for many many STARGATE and affiliated episodes.

Woo!

What I particularly enjoyed about the story is how it was in first person (I'm one of the odd few who like first person stories). It felt as if the character was talking to me, not at me...and that made it all the more personal. There were some really funny things, too - I don't want to say anything more because of spoilers - butt I think you know what I mean. ;) The whole story just really made an impression...not sure it was in Joe's best interest for him to suggest I read that one first! Speaking of Joey...

Also, for those interested, Joe has a great blog worth checking out: http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/. It offers not only behind-the-scenes Stargate info, but a book of the month club featuring sci fi/horror/fantasy genres, and FOOD, mostly of the exotic and chocolatey kind. :)

(Hope you don't mind me posting that link.)

Ads works. ;)

Hubby is just breezing through Masked, said it's one of the best things he's read in ages. Of course, that means he's hijacked it from me, and I stuck reading this Secret Six stuff. ;)

Das, if you want to check out Gail's writing and you're not a big DC person, you might want to try Welcome to Tranquility. It's Wildstorm but I don't read Wildstorm comics as a whole, so it seems to me it exists in a little happy corner all by itself.

I have looked into it, and might check it out eventually. Are there any misfits I might fall for, because right now I don't think I can handle another zoom-in-from-outta-the-blue-and-slap-me-upside-the-head crush. :p

Anyone know where to find the book on half.com? Been hoping to find a copy there. But you type in Masked and everything but the book in question comes up.

Thanks for linking to the Q&A, Andreas! You're the best! :thumb:

I've only read two stories so far - it was a crazy summer and I have a backlog of reading to do. I'm hoping to curl up with this book once the weather turns cold, when I'm doing less outside and have more time for reading.
