If you are from CBR, or from another Jinxworld board, or from somewhere else in the great interdoodle, thanks for coming here to this happy place of magic and dreams and crack.

Except not so much about the dreams.

I think there are going to be some new people here who haven't met each other, so even if you are a CBR or BenBo veteran, please take a moment to tell us just a little about who you are, where you live, what you do, and maybe what comics you like, okay?

It's much appreciated!

I'm here, I'm queer, I'm at work (and not supposed to be posting).

so I'll come back and edit more info later !

EDIT:

K. . bit more about me 43 years old, out and proud gay man. I've been with my partner for over 6 & 1/2 years (our anniversary is so easy to remember, he's dead meat if he ever forgets: 1/23/4).

anyways, I've come over from CBR, where I was a member since Waaaaaaay back when (purple and green bulliten board format).

I became more or less a regular on the YABS board there 4-5 years ago.

I buy a LOT of comics. . and I make good money. But I'm very vocal about what I will, and will not spend my money on.

(helping a friend in need? absolutely. paying $3.99 for a 32 page comic book (with ads) from one of the major publishers? not likely).

Oh, and I don't buy anything from Marvel.

haven't for many, many years.

I do pick up trades from Cons when I can find them very cheap, but I don't support any "new" Marvel comics, due to attitudes (both homophobic and juvenile) that have really come to the forefront under Quesada.

Oh, and I tend not to lie. So if I'm telling you something, you can usually believe the statement to be a true representation of either the facts, or my feelings.

I'm Ray, I'm the Bendis Board's resident posting champion/complete lunatic.

I've been following Gail ever since her original BOP run, but I never really got to post on the CBR boards outside of a select few posts that interested me.

I'm generally a pretty nice guy. I have a reputation for being a big bad board Conservative, but I'm mostly a social liberal, just a conservative on other things, so I doubt we'll be fighting. Too much. ;)

I'm in The Gathering (thegatheringcomic.blogspot.com). Buy The Gathering. :D

I am a kinda CBR veteran, kinda sorta.

I grew up in NJ, went to college in Boston and now I am living in Virginia, just south of Washington, DC. I have several cats and a dog and I do a lot of work with animal rescue groups in my area. I repair computers for a living.

I generally read both DC and Marvel but lately been leaning a lot more towards Marvel.

My three favorite characters are Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde and Ted Kord\Blue Beetle......:surrend:

Also I have been really into Doctor Who since I was a teen.

One more time!

Hi, I'm Shelly or Shel. I can be found hiding out in the Ouachita Mountains minutes away from America's first National Park. Screw that Ken Burns guy, he didn't do his research. The US Mint (http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/atb/?local=hotSprings) knows the score!

I'm a freelance web designer and retail slave. I haven't actually read a comic in six months or so and due to financial constraints decided that was probably a good reason to stop buying them for awhile.

07-30-2010, 06:50 AM
I'm I've Got The Monkeys.

I have the monkeys. I'll set them free.

I'm the quiet one, who you'll never suspect.

I'm from the East Coast. I'm a fan of Red Dwarf, Discworld, Schlock Mercenary, That Guy with the Glasses, and a large majority of Marvel and DC's output.

I'm still waiting for Agent X to be collected. (Gus Beezer too). [/Shameless Pandering]

You can see the name. I'm not exactly a "low profile" kinda guy.

Married, in the Chicago area, 47 years of age (physically at least), and, as you can see, Bears fan.

Not sure about this place yet, but at least there are familiar "faces" about. I'll give it a try.

Alright, another place to lurk and/or post infrequently.:scared:

My name's Valentine. I draw comics and I'm a big fan of Gail and 98.3% of the creators on Jinxworld.

As someone who's spent some time over at CBR as well, I just want to let the YABS migrants know that this place is great. Really fun community and great discussions -- which you should all be comfortable with.

Hello everyone! Another YABS refugee here. Or colonist. We can be colonists, right? Anyway, I'm a geeky librarian. Though I love comics, like Sk, I don't buy many anymore for financial reasons. (See: "I'm a librarian.") I prefer non-superhero comics, but I will always love Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler. I discovered Gail through her WiR and non-comic writings, and made myself comfy on her forums since then. Now that the caravan is on the move again, I will take up my tambourine and dance my way to our new digs.

Oh, and if you have any reference questions, feel free to ask.

I'm Ben, but since we already had one of those here, I'm SidekicksRevenge.

I'm an improvisational comedian, but I also have a day job that I'm not going to quit.

Heya! My name's Dan, I just turned 29 and I'm from Sydney. I'm a 'data analyst' at the University of New South Wales and in my dreams/delusions I am a somewhat successful photographer. I'm usually at the Bendis Boards and I pay Mr Siuntres a visit every now and again because I love the guy.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't read a lot of Gail's stuff because I'm mostly a Marvel guy and I came back to comics after Gail was already gone at Marvel. I read some Agent X some time ago but probably not enough. Everyone keeps telling me to get the awesome Secret Six so its only a matter of time.

So why am I here, you ask? Because I love Gail to bits. She's always a ton of fun in interviews and when she pops her head in the Bendis boards.

Not sure what happened at CBR but you guys seem really nice so I hope you all enjoy yourselves over here :)

Hey everyone! I'm Laura. I'm from the South, more specifically, the New Orleans area. I do a goofy little podcast on Tolkien and his works whenever my esteemed cohost isn't busy putting on plays. Loosely associated with that jerk-o Chris Page (although, I really hate to admit that :shifty:). I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but I'm here!

I'm aegisbearer, and I'm from Tampa, FL. I'm a high school English teacher/college prof who has been a comic book fan since I was 10. My first major love was Wonder Woman, and it remains to this day. I'm also a huge fan of Gail's. I loved her work on Wonder Woman, and now Secret Six and Birds of Prey.

WOOT! NOLA! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE me some NOLA.

I suppose I oughta fall in line and introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Steph. My handle is a joke left over from High School.

I'm a teacher. I teach at a behavioral hospital for kids during the day and the University of Phoenix at random intervals. I have 3 degrees in English and teaching English. I am NOT a grammar Nazi unless your grammar is so bad I can't understand you. I will occasionally slip into teacher mode and try to help someone out, so if that bothers you, I apologize in advance - sometimes it's hard to turn the teacher off.

I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas (where the bottled water comes from) and share my house, my bed, and often my shower, but never my ice cream with our esteemed moderator SK716. I have one kid - she's 9 and will be starting 4th grade this year - who is an absolutely brilliant, gifted disaster.

Between SK and I, we also have 2 dogs (you met Tucker in another thread), 2 1/2 cats (one is wild and outside only), and 3 ferrets (whom you will see referred to in many inside jokes, especially once Lester gets here).

Comic-wise, I don't really read much. I adore Gail's work for its humor and ingenuity. I am a Deadpool fanatic. And I love Powergirl because she's the only superhero who feels my (upper back) pain.

Since Bert and Kyuubi are here, you may see me referred to as the "Soccer Mom" of YABS. That's Bert's fault.

Marc Lombardi
07-30-2010, 07:53 AM
I'm Marc and I'm sort of a defacto "intern" of sorts for Shadowline Comics (Jim Valentino's clan at Image) -- that's if you can be called and intern when you're 37 and live in a different city than the bosses do and don't really have an office, and don't really get paid, and also have another job. But I do a lot of PR work for them and I update their websites & social networking accounts and I try not to Spam the boards with ads for Shadowline books.

I read all sorts of stuff and I try to keep a low profile on the boards. I stay away from as much drama as possible, but I do have a habit of trying to add witty/sarcastic remarks to everything when I do get involved.

Hola, amigos. I'm Hubert, and also Infra-Man on CBR.

I'm a freelance writer, copywriter, copy editor, and graduate student living in Brooklyn, NY. One these days I hope to become an obscure novelist and practically-unknown short story writer.

I read all kinds of comics from superhero and fantasy ones to slice-of-life ones--just enjoy well-told stories in any medium.

I love Bendis, and enjoy Gail here on the board but have never read any of her books that I know of.

I am not as liberal as the rest of you, because that wouldn't really work out for me. I'm an existential moral relativist.

I like Jason, although we have different taste in women. But I don't judge.

Naughty Tempter!

I write and draw comic books, writer articles about creator rights, and do volunteer work as an advocate. I will be spending a few months in Washington DC this fall lobbying.

You can see my work in Amazing Spider-Man 600, Girl Comics #2, Orbiter, past issues of Wonder Woman, Lucifer, and Sandman, among others.

Currently, I am illustrating a graphic novel for Vertigo called Gone to Amerikay, written by the outstanding write Derek McCulloch. This 140 page original GN will be out in 2012, and is a multi-generational epic of Irish immigration.

I am also working on a new GN with best-selling young adult novelist Barry Lyga for Houghton Mifflin. I will be finished with this by October.

On the back burner, but still in progress, Stealth Tribes with Warren Ellis, another original GN. He was bogged down with other work, then I got bogged down, but my bogged-downing-ness will be over in October and I can get back to it.

I also write and draw A Distant Soil for Image Comics, and you can read it for free at my website. (http://www.adistantsoil.com)

Many good wishes to Gail and all the Yabsters. Good luck on your new venture in your new home!

Hi, I'm Colleen Doran. I haven't been back to the Bendis Board in years. But Gail tempted me!

OMG, is this THE Colleen Doran?! I just tried reading some of those old Valor issues a few months back, and your art was spectacular!

Yes, Freeman. It's THE Colleen Doran.

This sort of thing happens a lot when you hang around THE Gail Simone. I don't think I'll ever get used to it, though.

Speaking of artists, has anyone heard from THE Larry Dixon? Does he know we've moved? He'll like it here.

Thanks! The little buggers are adorable and max out at about an inch or so. I've had them for about a year and love them to death. Just need to work out the right balance to help keep more of the babies alive to adulthood.

And I was born in Camden (once on the cover of Time Magazine with the headline 'Who Could Live Here?') and raised in the southern half of the state (Secession Now!) in the Voorhees area. How about you?

NatGertler
07-30-2010, 09:23 AM
I'm Nat Gertler. I mainly hung out on the CBR boards on the Olney thread, though I dangled my feet elsewhere.

I'm a writer and a publisher, and as long as I'm posting here (and as long as Gail has encouraged saying what one is up to), I thought I'd point out things in both categories that are in the August Previews - you know, the one you're just about to order from?

As a writer, there's The Peanuts Collection, which is a fancy-dancy slipcased hardcover telling the history of Peanuts with a lot of "interactive" items - reproductions of rare Peanuts publications, sketches, letters, trading cards, and so forth that are either tipped in (so you open them as a flap on the page) or are removable. (If you've seen The Marvel Vault, The DC Vault, or the Star Wars Vault, this is a somewhat different format by similar in concept, and put together by the same packager.) You'll find that on page 344 of Previews, item AUG10 1289, suggested retail price is $35.

As a publisher, there's Salimba, which is a complete collection of the jungle girl comic by Thundercats and Timespirits writer Steve Perry and eight-time Eisner Award winner Paul Chadwick. In addition to the 60 pages of Chadwicky goodness, I got Perry to offer up an all-new Salimba prose story. "Baby", a dark look at drugs and murder, turned out to be Perry's final work completed before his tragic demise. The whole thing costs a mere $9.99, and can be found in the About Comics section on page 216 of Previews, item number AUG10 0727. I recommend that you let your retailer know now that you want this book - we base our print run on the number of preorders we get, and in this case we're donating 10% of the print run to The Hero Initiative, a charity that helps comics creators in need (they did much for Perry in his final days). So the more you order, the more The Hero Initiative gets!

Well, thank you! I'd like to start off with a bit about myself. My parents were really simple folk, my father was a steamfitter and ... *flip*flip*flip* these are not my note cards. Off the cuff then!

I'm a 40-something weirdo, having long experience with small conventions, gaming and animation, with delusions of adequacy. She's a fiery red-head from Oregon with dreams of becoming a fiery red-head from Prague. Together we ... don't do a blasted thing, really, I should stop trying to use these cards.

I know it. Unfortunately, it's not worth the time and money to make things for any other platform besides the iPhone, yet. There simply aren't enough users and the other companies don't have their systems streamlined. We have to stay where the money is for now, so we can pay our pills.

After finding out Gail was at least partially responsible for so many of the awesome comics I had been reading I was excited to learn she sort of came from fandom, still had such contact with fans and kept up on an Internet board somewhere. Then I saw she was kind of passionate and pervy which sealed the deal.

Seriously, more than once I've found out she was part of the creative team on a series I enjoyed long after she left it. "Agent X? No kidding! Welcome to Tranquilty?! I loved that!"

Oh I know who I am and what I want to do easy enough but I seem to have trouble doing it. Stacy describes me as being a hot mess if that helps.

These days my entire focus is on losing weight, finding a good job, getting into a stable relationship, becoming independent and taking martial arts courses. Basically I'm doing all the stuff in my thirties that I should have done in my twenties but didn't because I was direction-less.

Capntightpants here!

I love comics of all types from the superhero variety to Vertigo-type fare. When comparing the Big Two I'm more familiar with Marvel things. I write in my spare time and was big on creating all types of art forms (music, dancing, poetry). I think of doing things professionally, but I'm completely amateur.

I started coming here more often after the Brian K. Vaughan boards disappeared and we jumped ship to Tony Harris' boards, which went down for a bit, changed addresses, and subsequently lost a lot of posters. (It's still up so if you want to come through, we're looking for new blood as well as the old vets!) PM Me!

I spend most of my time on the Bendis Boards, especially in the So You Think You Can Dance/ Cyclops / Indie Rap threads, but I'm usually popping my head in and out of of most Bendis threads.

I'll be sure to stop by here more often! Nice to meet ya!

I'm Travis and I've been on the Bendis Boards for about 13 years now.

My username is short for Cthulhu. I shortened it because no one could spell it right when I was playing MUDS in college (instead of studying) which resulted in my character dying repeatedly.

I've seen it pronounced "Sith", "Cuth", "See Tee Aych" and have answered to all of them, but I go by my real name as well. And no, Cth is not a drug reference backwards, nor my initials.

Anyways, I first visited the boards at work 13 years ago and am largely an 8-5 poster as a result. One day I got bored and started posting funny/weird images I found while wandering on the internet 8 hours a day, and it became habit. I used to do a daily weird image thread, but now for my sanity and the sake of bandwidth, I post them on Fridays around lunchtime, so be sure to stop by the Bendis forum and check 'em out.

I do photoshop, web admin, etc. I'm currently in the running as a moderator over at Mark Millar's board as well.

I live in North Carolina, just north of Charlotte where I work as an CAD engineer. I have a 3 year old daughter and am married, and I just turned 37.

Comics? It varies. Admittedly, I'm mostly a Marvel guy, but I like my fair share of indy and manga books. Only a handful of DC books, but thanks to the library I'm slowly changing that.

Favorite characters are the Hulk, Deadpool, and John Constantine.

EDIT:

In case anyone wanders over to the Bendis forum, you should know there's a few "megathreads".. meaning, they're mostly chat threads with lots of inside jokes, but like double dutch, just jump in and wing it -- everyone's friendly.

Some other "megathreads" worth noting:

- Video game threads (Xbox, PS3, Wii)
- Politics threads
- Weekly art threads
- Social threads (TIP, DCU, Most Frequent, THWIP!, etc)
- Comic threads (Spidey, X-Men, Hulk, etc)
- Mmmmmmmmmmegathread (bewbs and butts)
- Weekly movie rating threads (during summer)
- Weekly comic review threads (indy and mainstream, picks voted on each week)
- etc, etc.

Actually, that's probably not going to be a problem for her. I don't know if they are hiring now, but BellSouth was almost always hiring when my pop worked there. He retired about 5 years ago or so, but he said when he left, the were focusing on new grads a great deal. For sure check it out. I worked at a call center (also BellSouth, when they still did wireless) right out of college too. There's a lot of call center jobs here, or were. Sprint was HUGE here for awhile. It might be a hike from Harrisburg, but worth looking into.

With any luck, I can find her something. I feel bad since I found that job for her so I feel kind of obligated to find something new :)

Whip
07-30-2010, 12:34 PM
I'm Ari which short for something else, and yes, it's like Jeremy Piven's character on Entourage---except I am not a raging asshole everyday (just 5 days a week). You can call me Whip, though, it's easier. I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area with my fiancee. I work in Law Enforcement, where I have to listen to adults that act like children and work strange hours.

I am female, no matter what that running gag may say!

I love console gaming, a hobby I've enjoyed since I was 5 and my favorite games are JRPGs, fighting games, and games made by Nintendo, Capcom, and Konami. If you like fighting games, come check out the Official Fighting Game Thread (http://606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=143624). :)

Of course, I enjoy comics, mostly Marvel, though I dabble in DC once in a while. I love Daredevil, the X-Men, Spider-Man, Firestar, Namor, and Robin I & III.

My other hobbies include movies, shopping, cosmetics/makeup, TV, writing, fanfic, and making fanboys uncomfortable with pictures and discussion of slash (even if slash isn't really my cup of tea---the thought of making a man in comics fandom squirm is an opportunity I will never let up).

Weeto
07-30-2010, 01:00 PM
I am called Weeto here but I'm known as Weetomuncher on CBR. This is mainly because I registered as Weetomuncher several years ago here but I never registered properly so I can't post anything. The shorter version is better anyway.

I'm a veteran of many threads on YABS and I complain about EVERYTHING and I'm also a conservative. I usually have about six mental breakdowns per month on the internet.

I'm a 30 year old Scottish guy, single and in a pretty poor state of health. I keep dreaming of owning an IT company but it doesn't look likely to happen soon.

I also tend to have swings in comic habits and I can go from 15 book weeks to 15 book years very quickly. I also suffer from terrible anxiety which means that I tend to bounce around like a superball at times.

I'm also a DC fanatic and a big 2000AD fan too.

Wow everyone's intros are so witty! I am not feeling creative enough to keep up, but Gail told me to post or she would do horrible things to my voodoo doll. (Payback for the bad comedy she has seen with me up in Canada.)

I'm Liana. I'm mostly a fictional character. I tend to avoid message boards like this these days, because of fear of GotIS (girl on the internet syndrome). But I love Gail, so here I am.

I'm a big geek. In fact, I consider myself a professional geek. But I make money in TV. I like being a geek better.

Hi all!
Liana's awesome! She really thinks about comics (and other stuff, naturally) and her love of it really comes across. I could listen to what she has to say on comics, other geek stuff, heck - media, politics, etc. all day. More than once I've read something she wrote or saw clip where she made some points that really made me stop and think too. She's witty also, so she wraps it up in an entertaining package. I wish it was easier to see some of it in the U.S. Oh, she also does amazing cosplay including a movie-quality Batwoman and a Cheetara that looks like she stepped out of the cartoon.

I have been married to Barb for 26 years. We have two kids. Eddie is a senior at The Ohio State University. Kelly will be a freshman there this fall.

My most recent major effort was 1000 COMIC BOOKS YOU MUST READ. I'm working on some other pitches and proposals for books, comics, and other stuff.

I am a giant on the battlefield and in the bedroom.

Heya, all...and welcome to the madness.

I'm a Benbo vet...lots of shrapnel in my butt to prove it, too. A long time ago I used to mod on Marvel's forums, so if you were there about 2006/2007, you might remember me. Or not.

I'm a huge Wolverine fan, with a not-so-secret obsession over pale men with long, flowing white hair. Oh, and I'm probably older than most of you, and female. Think of me as your mother, only weirder.

LOTS weirder.

Is weirder a word? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/dasNdanger/smilies/scratch.gif

Same screen name as my relatively recent arrival at the old board. My name is Eva I'm a long time comic book reading, rpg-playing pop culture loving geek grrl.

I come from the most sterotypical Irish American family that can be imagined except we live in Texas and not Boston or New York. My older brother's are responsible for my love of comics as I had to either sit quietly and read on comic book day or be put in the closet and I think they only had me around so that I could play Batgirl when they played Batman and Robin or Sue for the Fantastic Four.

Birds of Prey is my favorite comic, Huntress my favorite DC character, while the Black Widow holds that title for Marvel.

I like my vampires evil. I like my werewolves to play in rock bands and I like my Slayers to be fewer in number.

Firefly should still be on the air.

Birds of Prey should have worked as a TV show.

I am a trauma nurse in RL. I try to avoid politics.

I bleed Burnt Orange.

I think that is most off all this important about me should anyone care. ^_^

I'm Ray. Yes, I know there are others, but I'll let that slide. I used to be all that and a bag of chips, but somewhere along the way, the bag ran dry, and I lost some of that. Now, I'm just Ray.

I'm a transplant from YABS. Sk716 got me hooked on it. That and Gail. She started me out on Birds of Prey. I cried like a little bitch when Gail left that title. I did likewise when she returned.

I love comics. Hot, right? I know. I have over 6,000 mainly DC titles. Over 1,000 are Superman books. My first fanboy love: Death of Superman trade in the back of a pale blue station wagon. Hot, right? I know.

I'm a story whore. In fact, if I've read it, heard it, watched it . . . chances are I liked it. If nothing else, I can see some value in almost any book/movie/etc.

I've written a novel, and I'm currently trying to get it published. I'll be in a zombie comic anthology sometime later this year (if scheduling gets worked out). It'll be released by Incubator Press, and I'm thrilled to death (or is that un-death?)

I'm also a slushpile reader for Dark Quest Books. I've only been doing this for a couple of months or so, but I really dig it. After a little polishing, I'll probably even submit my work. I hope it comes to my attention when I submit it.

Love, peace, and chicken grease.

I'm Howlett. I also answer to Howly or James. I'm the boards resident cranky Irishman. I tend to be more of a Marvel reader when it comes to the big two, though I do keep up to date on a lot of DC stuff nowadays. I just prefer the Marvel universe as a whole.

I, strangely, don't follow much of Gail's DC work. I read her Wonder Woman run, and have the first few issues of the current BoP. But don't read Secret Six. I'm working on getting my hands on them eventually though.

My favourite work of Gail's is her Deadpool/ Agent X run though. It saddens me that much of her run got swept off to the sidelines (Agent X and Sandi), or reverted to older, crappier incarnations (Taskmaster). At least we still get Outlaw sometimes.

Ha! Bert is the first poster on this thread. Bert wins! *waves to Bert*

Welcome Gail! Although I'm not on here much but I suspect I will be now. This is Richard from Zeus Comics in Dallas (http://www.zeuscomics.com/) and or course the the Variants web series. (http://www.thevariants.com/)

One more thing - Yay Gail!

YAY Richard!!!

Urgh, I'm gonna get sentimental and just say I'm really happy to see so many Yabsers and so many benbo people I like show up here.

That's pretty awesome. I feel really happy about this.

Yeah, I bring a certain gravitas and sextacularism to the forums I take part in.

I'm Andre. I make comics, been doing Jeepers at Girlamatic.com for seven years now and 500-ish pages. Asides from that I also do a lot of support work and artwork [creating a horde of mascots] and staff stuff for a local anime convention that's approaching it's 8th year [Atlantic Canada's longest running con btw], and write manga reviews for http://www.kuri-ousity.com

Currently working at finishing my webcomics, considering restarting another, and working away at submissions for small pubs as I'm starting to ponder more ambitious comics work. Because obviously I need more stuff to do!

Been following Gail's work since 1999-ish, and read a whack of stuff from indy comics to manga to superhero comics to horrible fantasy/scifi novels and Agatha Christie and other junk.

Im MJ a lurker on forums since the days of the WEF then moving on to the previous BenBo forum before this one and have still to get over a thousand posts.

I have pretty much stopped reading comics and buy GN's instead.
