The Army of Darkness movie isn't that great
I like it, and it has some good lines, but it's my least favorite of the trilogy.

None of them are, with Evil Dead 1 and 2 being particularly bad.
Army of Darkness is the only one that isn't thoroughly mediocre, but it's still bad.

i far prefer the suburbs to the city. cities are great places to visit but i couldn't stand to live in one. it would drive me nuts. and the biggest pet peeve in the world is city people who think that simply by living in the city they are better than us suburbanites. love the city all you want, that's great you love where you live. but don't act like someone in the burbs is a 3rd class citizen.
Agreed. Chicago's a great place to visit, but the only reason I'd move there is for a girl.
I could not disagree more with these two statements.

I don't understand the point of the suburbs.
They make people fat. More pollution. You can't walk anywhere. No nightlife. Displeasing to the eye. No character.

I'm not advocating one over the other (both have their perks), but space and privacy are niceties that exist more in the burbs than in the city.

Yes, but I'd much sooner achieve those things in a small town or small city over the suburbs. At least then there would be a definable core with a "main street" and some character. Also, sidewalks that serve their purpose.

I'm not fat. Lived in one for a long time now. Less pollution in my area than in the city. My suburb is quite beautiful with many trees and its better for my family.

I don't see any weight differences between people in the city and suburbs. All the same. At least here that is.
but we all are different and have different tastes. When I retire, I wouldn't mind living in the heart of a city where I can walk to more places. But, not now.

For all the suburbanites who prefer to live there and not in cities- thanks. Also, when visiting New York City- thanks for staying around Times Square. I'm sure it's really cool for you guys to visit what is basically a giant shopping mall. I know people in the suburbs seldom have opportunities to visit malls. ;)

Plenty of fat people here, but Seattle is one of the more fit cities in the country. Lot of tourists downtown.
Also, it's a fact that the south is fatter than the rest of the country.
Edit: According to Forbes, Seattle is the 4th fittest city in the country, while Houston is the 9th most "sluggish."

Marvel's solicitations are purposely vague and misleading.
Vamps in X-Men? Must be a coincidence that Marvel's most commercial franchise just happens to be fighting vampires which, as accident would have it, are fortuitously uber-popular right now. Must. Be. A. Coincidence.
And it's not just Twilight, it's vampires in general that happen to be in fad. Twilight was the catalyst, but vampires are the new pirates. (Or were zombies the new pirates, which would make vampires the new zombies?)
Anyway, everyone knows that X-fans are the least sophisticated of comic book readers.

I could never live in a suburb. It seems like factory made living. There is no culture, art, interesting quirks, nothing. Just the same houses over and over again with the occasional Wal-mart or Best Buys. Plus, they're terrible for the environment. :)

Dude, just because it's not the first story in the world with the X-Men and vampires doesn't mitigate the fact that it's an AWFUL BIG COINCIDENCE that they're going back to that well now. 1982 was a loooong time ago, my friend.
But surely we can agree on two things: 1) regardless of the motivation for bringing vampires into the mix, who cares as long as the story's good (Hell, they can literally crossover with the Twilight characters, as long as the story's good); and 2) True Blood sucks syphilized donkey dick

Why do you care if it's a coincidence or not? Who cares? Do you think that this story line was created specifically to cash in on Twilight's popularity, is that what you're saying? I'm no fan of this recent vampire siliness but I don't understand the recent outrage that people seem to have about vampires appearing in X-Men. It's like people are looking to justify some weird umbrage over this by trying to guess the motivation of the writer to do this story.
And on your points-
1) Yup!
2) Couldn't tell you, haven't caught it.

Yeah, I do suspect that the economic viability of vampires had a substantial role in bringing vampires (back) in to the X-books at this particular moment. It wouldn't be the most blatantly commercial cash grab that Marvel/Disney has ever executed. At the very least, you have to admit the possibility, and that cashing in is a conspicuous potential motivating factor. I admit I don't know for sure, having not been consulted by the editors. But I've seen a lot of commercial cash grabs in my day, and this definitely walks and quacks like one.

Look dude, we really want comics to be more popular and gain mainstream acceptance, but we don't want the comic companies to actually TRY to make that happen.
People try to justify story-wise the whole X-Men vampires thing off a couple of one-off occurrences.
People aren't trying to justify a story line (mainly because I have no idea what constitutes a justification of a story line and think this is a meaningless concept that you have just pulled out of your tuchas). People (and when I say "people", I mean "me") are just saying that vampires have appeared several times in Marvel Comics in general, and in X-Men comics in specific and it just seems like people are trying to find a reason to be mad at Marvel for this recent appearance, for whatever reason.
So people are being bad at Marvel for being smart?
Yeah, some of them. I don't necessarily think it takes a lot of smarts to throw your hat in the vamp ring this late in the trend, but it is a safe bet.
I think what a lot of people are complaining about is what appears to be putting marketing first. Considering the past decade+ of what's been going on in X-Men, it seemed totally out of left field for them to go vampire.
(And yes, I do consider the early 80s left field - lots of Marvel characters have had vampire issues, the X-Men don't have any *special* connection to Dracula in that sense. If anyone, that would have to be Doc Strange and some of the mystical characters)
The important point that I think you raise, is that Marvel comics has a long and respectable history with vampires, and Dracula in particular, that stretches far past the current trend. I do think it's more than happenstance that they're spotlighting vamps now, and I think that seems pretty cheap to lots of people.
I think if Marvel wanted to cash in on this teens girls loving sexy vampires craze, there's a lot more logical ways for them to do so than having the X-Men fight some vampires.

I don't understand why people are mad at the X-Men/Vampires thing. I don't remember people being mad when Captain Britain fought Dracula like a year ago. Granted, that story was awesome, but people weren't immediately claiming it was some Twilight cash in from the solicitations, where they? Plus, Captain Britain has some connections with the X-Men (his sister, for one), so maybe this story will be loosely connected to that one in some way?

If you think the Foo Fighters are better than Nirvana, than you probably shouldn't be allowed out of your house unattended.
I'd much rather hear a Foo Fighters song than a Nirvana song, simply because Nirvana's songs were completely overplayed on '90s radio due to them not being able to put out new content after Cobain's death.

Yep, the Foo Fighters are far, far greater than Nirvana ever was. Plus, Foo Fighter's music is still relevant and enjoyable past age 18.
P.S. While I'm at it, Hole's Celebrity Skin is a better album than anything Nirvana put out, except for the MTV Unplugged album (which was half covers).
I was ready to accept your opinion as valid, though not agree with it, until I got to the "P.S." No way is Hole better than Nirvana.

Vertigo is ridiculously impenetrable. There has always been SO MUCH gold in that line. But most people wouldn't know what the fuck is going on if they picked up an issue. But at least Vertigo trades come out in a timely manner. DC's main line doesn't have that luxury. It confuses newcomers as well as not give them a recent story point to catch up on via timely trades.
I just don't understand what they have against providing accessibility. A recap page would also cut down on the inane "recapping a story through dialogue" device and also the "I'm Flash. I'm Wally West. I'm the fastest man alive" thing that Johns used to do every issue.

So there should be pages of exposition in each issue to explain everything to new readers? Also, with a month between issues, people often lose track of what's going on plot-wise.

Narration boxes need to make a big come back in comics. Same with editorial notes (the asterisks...no, the internet does not make these obsolete) and more dialog per panel. In this way, if each issue contained more written substance and new reader accessibility, it would help the medium financially. Right now, comics from the big two are hampered by too little written word per $ spent on the issue, plus inaccessibility. Back in superhero comic hay days, reading an issue took twice as long and contained three times the story.

Hell, if Image does it and even an upstart company like Crossgen could see the value of catching readers up, then DC should goddamn well too.

Red Dragon is both a remake of Manhunter and a prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. And when it really comes down to it, it's more the latter than the former, since it was written for the Hopkins version of Hannibal, it follows the novel much more closely than Manhunter, and the ending leads right into the beginning of Silence.
And no, Manhunter is not a better movie. It also really hasn't aged well.

But a lot of dialogue doesnt make it good. I mean, a guy like Grant Morrison is hardly wordy, but he packs more into Batman and Robin than most writers do in 3-4 issues of their books. Look at JMS, he's pretty wordy, but a lot of his books CRAWL when it comes to pacing and how much actual story and plot you get.

And if you don't want comics to be Code approved you also hate America's children. ;)
I just don't get the logic. Why is it a bad thing to make sure that everyone knows what's going on? I mean, comics should be as accessible as possible for everyone.
And you know what, sometimes, when you pick up, like, 30 some books, you tend to forget what happened a month ago. It's nice to get a refresher without having to dig through a long box. It doesn't mean you're dense, it means that you might have some other stuff on your mind.

Yeah it's pretty damn silly.
I'm almost wanting to start a thread about this. But I don't know what it is. I have a curse. My threads never last long, and I feel this is a topic that warrants a lot of attention. :(

Inception isn't as great as a lot of folks are saying.
It's an intelligent, well-acted and well done film but the praise for it is bordering on hyperbole.
I think I could say the same about every Christopher Nolan film. He is a good, not great, filmmaker.

I haven't seen Inception, but I'm worried about the hyperbole factor.
That being said, I considered Nolan a great filmmaker well before Batman Begins was released.

Would you say that someone who's never played a Sonic game would have a good time with this, were he to download it on the XBox 360? Assuming said person at least had some fondness for Mario-esque platformers?

Oh god, yes. Like most post-Mario platformers, it follows the template, but they feeling of motion and the illusion of speed is amazing, and the levels are so expansive, they're a joy to run through. I'm playing it on 360 currently through the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection, and the developers for the XBL port are also responsible for the Ultimate Genesis Collection. It's as intuitive on the 360 controller as it was on the Genesis pad.
I still can't get through the underwater stage on Sonic 2. This isn't an opinion, but an admittance of futility.

I only played the ninth one. It's fun enough (especially for the price), but I would have rather paid full price for a next-gen style game that advanced (or ended) the story than ten bucks for a lovenote to the "good ol' days."

But Final Fantasy 6 had better, more interesting characters and a better overall story.

I agree but only because I suck at spy games. I hated Splinter Cell for the very same reason. For both games, I felt like the objective was to hide in the corner for forty-five minutes until the coast was clear. Oh, someone spotted me? Start the level over.
The whole time I kept asking myself, "When do I get to shoot shit?"

fighting games with 3D environments are clunky. It takes more effort to pull off a sweet, soul crushing combo than it would in a fighting game with a 2D environment. The fast paced fighting is what made the genre so popular to begin with.
that said, I'm fucking thrilled for MvC 3 and the new Mortal Kombat

Exactly, and just when I thought I was going to shoot shit, a cutscene came on that lasted until I got gassy. Storyline is one thing, but straight story with very, very little gameplay is shitty.

State-imposed smoking bans have done more to negatively impact tax revenues than was ever anticipated or is currently being accounted for. Tax revenues from the cigarettes themselves, associated liquor tax revenues, decreased revenues from taverns, and the one no one is talking about - decreased casino tax revenues. Turns out, degenerate gamblers who don't mind funding public education with their compulsions, like to do so with a butt in their hand, so they have moved the game into private (translation: non-taxed) cash games.

Every spy game should be done like GoldenEye. That game's solution to someone spotting you is running that fucker over with a tank.

Ah, you might be right about that. I was speaking more about the general public. My non-comic-reading friends, for example, enjoyed it.
Kind of on a similar note, I think it's absolutely acceptable and necessary to make changes when adapting a work to a different medium. Some things may work well for a book (like the shark in Jaws dying due to gunshot wounds), but that would have made a terrible ending for a movie.
I guess I'm just tired of the complaints that something is bad because it's not exactly like the source material.

Final Fantasy XI was a much better MMO than World of Warcraft because it was actually challenging and didn't hold your hand every step of the way, which ultimately made it a more rewarding experience.
I really do think that the ending of Watchmen was better in the movie than in the book. Using Dr. Manhattan's energy signature was much more elegant, and poetic, than Moore's convoluted concept.

the only problem With FFXI is how much slower it is than WoW, everything from getting around to combat to resource gathering takes up so much more time.

i think it was bad because it was too close to the source material. There are parts of that movie that are direct translations of the book and they fall flat (to be nice).
Rorschach's VO at the begining, most of the dialog throughout the movie, that "this is the American Dream." line.
It would have been a better movie if there were more changes. Lord of the Rings made HUGE changes to the story of books, but kept the spirit of the books intact.
