Oh no...
Well, I wasn't part of the Sook decision, so I'll stay out of that. I do agree, though, that has doesn't have the best track record on timeliness. With that said, you could probably rotate arcs with him (if he's given a head start) and another artist.
I think Hellboy had the most punch out of any possible character. However, if you're just looking for some interesting ideas, I think Fear Agent or Chu from Chew would have been interesting choices and would have blended well into DC's universe. But, again, they lack the same level of "oomph" that HB would bring to Marvel.
I don't think it's any more disruptive than dumping the characters into DC's universe. Between Shadowpact, Reign in Hell, and many other related titles over the years, I think their supernatural universe is just as fleshed out, if not more (since many of the same characters are often used, so you have a tight-knit group). However (and this relates to later questions you posed), I think Hellboy and BPRD showing up in Marvel's universe is a smoother transition because they have more organizations that are equipped for an interdimensional shift as we see here, and the characters work and interact on more levels than I feel they would with DC. I could see Hellboy being shoehorned into the magic/supernatural groups in the DCU because that's generally where all of the "monsters" go. With Marvel, there are characters like Ben Grimm who exist outside a magic/supernatural arena, and I think this allows more long-term success and more successful overall interactions between characters; Hellboy will work not just in a magic setting, but an overall universe one, as well.
I honestly don't remember; if there were, I'm sure someone else will chime in.
See above for my reply to Sook, but as for another artist to replace him, I'd possibly pick either Andy Kuhn (Firebreather) or Paul Azaceta (Foolkiller, Grounded).
And I think you state the answer right there. In the DCU, Hellboy would blend in so perfectly with its magic characters that he'd lose what is unique about him. In other words, you sacrifice the character to fit the universe; on the other hand, Marvel and its universe are more apt to allow the character to be himself, and there isn't a so-called specific hole that Hellboy would have to fit into. He can work with the magic characters (and tell his type of stories) or interact with the New Avengers or SHIELD or ARMOR; the same applies to the BPRD. In short, I just think Marvel's form of storytelling and their broad universe fits so much better with these characters than DC's universe would and allows for more flexibility.
Answered above and by other team members.
Overall, I think he did quite well, although if I have to be honest, I do think that we're still finding our footing as a team, but we certainly gelled together better this week than last. Specifically, Doug maintained order, listened to suggestions, and took control when he needed to have the deadline met.
There were one or two people that I don't think pulled their weight this week. Whether or not it was because they had real life obligations or just didn't want to participate, I couldn't tell you. In particular, I noticed that Aaron was absent this week (sorry, Aaron!), but again, I couldn't tell you his reasons.
Groot, we already won...

This was a tough one, since both teams picked the same property. So this was going to come down to the little details that set each pitch apart.
To start with, the Kedds had a distinct advantage, going with DC. In my opinion, the concept is more suited to DC on average. Marvel was a tricky sell - but I was actually surprised by how well they sold it.
The art was a sticking point for us, but again, that's a wash.
So the big thing this came down to for us was the way it Hellboy and the BPRD were incorporated into their respective universe. The Crisis Crossover that the Hip Hop Robots did seemed a bit of an odd fit, but it seemed to accomplish the goal - combining the two without losing anything from Hellboy.
The Kedds' retcon, on the other hand, seemed like it could backfire in a big way. What came over to the DCU wasn't the Hellboy property as is, but rather an altered version retrofitted to the DCU, that stood the potential of pissing off a lot of old-school Hellboy fans. It shows in the main story - it was all about outing an organization that's already been public in the comics! It's been proven time and time again that movie fans rarely migrate to the comics. So banking on them as opposed to the long-time Hellboy fans was massively risky.
I applaud both of you for shooting for the moon with this challenge. But there can only be one winner. And that winner is...the Hip Hop Robots!
Doug, you have immunity. Roman, unfortunately, you're in the boardroom, and I'll need you to pick two teammates to join you.

But impotence jokes offend people with a real medical problem (ED), and black Spidey jokes would label us racist.
The only people we offend with child eating jokes are parents. And lets be honest, what parent has thought, at least once, what their kid would taste like in a stew. Roman:
- You were very active this week, coming up with the main idea, pushing for it, and managing your team. In retrospect, is there any advice you wish you'd listened to?
- What changes do you think your team could have made along the way that would have given you a better shot at this?
- How do you feel your team worked overall? Was there a lack of teamwork?
- Considering both teams went with the same property, were there any other ideas you wish you had given more thought to?
- Who was your team's MVP this week?
- Who should be fired out of you, Omega, and Mitch? And why should you stay?
- Are you panicked because I asked so many questions? :)

- Your school year ended this week. Do you anticipate being more active from here on out?

Roman:
- You were very active this week, coming up with the main idea, pushing for it, and managing your team. In retrospect, is there any advice you wish you'd listened to?
Looking back now, that Bomb Queen/Deadpool crossover would have been fun . . . and knowing what I know now, would have reworded the pitch a bit better to avoid some of the confusion. But other than that, I think I did I good job taking all of the different viewpoints and melding them together, and there were a lot of varying inputs.
- What changes do you think your team could have made along the way that would have given you a better shot at this?
Well, it seems we lost it on one technicality, so aside from the obvious "going public" thing, no. I think there's nothing different we would have done (would is different than could, FYI ;).)
- How do you feel your team worked overall? Was there a lack of teamwork?
Actually, there really did seem to be 7 people all leaning in different ways on how to handle the story, one person wants one thing, the other wants something totally different. I chose to let them sort out their differences and then I'd make judgements based on how it suited what we already had and what I felt would be better for the prject.
- Considering both teams went with the same property, were there any other ideas you wish you had given more thought to?
Like I said earlier, that Bomb Queen/Deadpool idea is looking better and better every second I'm in this boardroom.
- Who was your team's MVP this week?
Wow, that's a tough one, because I think several of our guys (at least 4) worked really hard and each one had their own individualized pitch that we could have sent through . . . so it's really hard to name one, so I'll name two, no disrespect to my other teammates but I think Matthew Brown and JamesV contributed the most material that made it into the final pitch.
- Who should be fired out of you, Omega, and Mitch? And why should you stay?
Personally, I think Mitch should stay, I think he's got more potential to be helpful in the long run. And, like I said, no disrespect to Slewo, but we have plenty of "idea" guys who contribute more, and Mitch is a "hey, I'll do this for you!" kind of guy, and that's good to have.
EDIT: As for myself, because I forgot to add this part, I feel like I did everything that was asked of me, I presented the character, I came up with a large portion of the ideas (granted, that's not the best thing to point out as we lost.) that the group then built on, and I did my best as a leader dealing with a group of creative minds who were all going in different directions, and I presented a pitch that represented (for the most part) the totality of all our varying ideas.
- Are you panicked because I asked so many questions?
I'm panicked by everything in this room right now. That glass of water in the corner keeps looking at me funny. :scared:

Well, with my performance, if nothing else. All I can say to my team (if I go home or not) is that I hope they pull together for the next project, because the first two weeks things have been . . . interesting. I feel like a lot of us are treating this like a solo game instead of a team sport. It's not one or the other, it's both. I don't recall mentioning anyone by name . . . Glenn.
But on that topic, there's pointing out a flaw in the plot and hoping we take heed and then there's showing the initiative to fix it yourself. No one stopped you from taking what we had already created and putting your own spin on it. You can't just say "oh I give up" because we didn't instantly listen to you, we were all focused on the project, it's up to you to take the initiative to show us how the story could be better and not just go "That's a bad idea" and go about your merry way.
And this goes to everyone playing the game, if you have a negative criticism about the project you are working on (any project) don't just say something disparaging, present a solution to the problem at hand, because being negative just to be negative doesn't help anyone.

I did

I wrote a whole pitch on how we could work in the reality hop I'll copy and paste it when I get home
I reposted it several times
No one paid attention
If you say I didn't then either you didn't see it and I'm sorry about that but I mentioned plenty of times
My idea for the reality hop wasn't perfect but I still thought it was better than what we went with, the retcon caused too many headaches and would piss off too many people
I did post this go check the first thread I even had a detailed outline for the first arc in the Google group with BPRD being set up as always being around but eeeevil and Hellboy and crew being a new addition, you even responded with the Angel running Wolfram and Hart link and I was like 'yes! Yes that's it!' and it just got...forgotten
I don't want you to go but don't say I have an ego I care about winning and was willing to put my ass on the line if my idea had been used and again I mentioned this IN THE THREAD but this was again dismissed and we were moving full steam ahead to retcon land

For the love of mother.... Glenn, why must every single time one of these board games come around do you have to go on your period?
I mean, I never once mentioned you as having an ego. You ASSUME I mean you, but unless I SAY I mean you, then you have nothing to go on except your own insecurity.
And you can be assured Glenn that I have absolutely NO problem saying what I feel about you to your face. So stop with the wounded act and just get your mind in gear for next week's challenge, I'M the one in the hot seat, not you, so stop acting like it.
End of discussion.
FYI, you may have been right about that ONE point, but that doesn't make your pitch Tolstoy.

I'm sorry, I'm just stating my piece and yes I'm an insecure jerk so sue me

MayorMitch:
- Your school year ended this week. Do you anticipate being more active from here on out?
- Who should be fired out of you, Omega, and Roman? And why should you stay?
Omega:
- Your school year ended this week. Do you anticipate being more active in the future?
- Who should be fired out of you, Mitch, and Roman? Why should you stay?
Ach... Yeah I was rather busy since my school just ended and I think I'll have waaaaaaaaaaaay more time to devote to the game in the future...
I mean I have alot of ideas and this game comes naturally to me in terms of coming up with ideas, working up combinations of concepts and working with other people in the team. So yes I do believe I have a reason to stay and so far I've gotten along really well with my team and I've added a good chunk to the ideas at hand. And Roman did alot of the concept stuff. Sooooo no hard feelings Mitch I'm sorry dude.

My questions for the three in the boardroom:
Roman:
- As the PM, how do you think you handled your job? Is there any specific thing you think you were weak on that you think needs improving should you stay in the game and act as PM later on?
- What do you feel was your strongest assest to the team this week as the PM?
- You were very vocal early on that you wanted to the the PM if and ONLY if your team selected Hellboy. What's the deal with Hellboy? Where did your fandom come from?
- Of the three of you in the boardroom, who will be the biggest loss to the team in the longrun?
Omega:
- From what I can see, you only made five comments the whole time this week and didn't contribute directly to the final pitch. Do you feel like what you contributed helped? Do you feel that anything you mentioned that may have been left from the final version of the pitch would have propelled your team to a win?
- What do you think you have learned in two weeks of this game that you will carry into the future weeks should you survive?
- Of the three of you in the boardroom, who will be the biggest loss to the team in the long run?
Mitch (Alex):
- Much like Omega, you were very scarce this week and from what I saw of your comments you didn't really add much to the team aside from saying you liked how things were progressing. Thinking back on your contributions this week, is there anything you think that you added to your team's effort? Was anything you said ignored that could have helped propel you to a win?

I would be interested in seeing Mr. Rabbit's thoughts, just to help us in future rounds.
I much preferred the idea that Hellboy/BPRD had always been around in the DCU. It's a seamless transition that hearkens to the folding in of universes used around the time of the first Crisis. I love that Hellboy knows the JSA, and it fits perfectly with the Starman/Hellboy/Batman crossover.
On the other hand, the method of utilizing a large crossover event rubbed me the wrong way and I felt that a lot of the plot points in that first mini were cliched. It just didn't seem to fit. It felt like more of a stunt than a story. I think that Hellboy/BPRD can fit in the Marvel U, but I didn't feel that they did with the way the story was presented.

My questions for the three in the boardroom:
Roman:
- As the PM, how do you think you handled your job? Is there any specific thing you think you were weak on that you think needs improving should you stay in the game and act as PM later on?
I think given the task at hand and the variety of strong willed players on my team, I think I did fine, I think I need to be a little be more forceful if I do it again, i think the reason there were so many different ideas floating around was because I didn't put my foot down and say "This is where we're going, let's make THIS work, if it doesn't we'll try other things." So if I stay, I'll be a lot less pensive about being firm with my team. Also, be a bit more open-minded about the more out-there ideas.
- What do you feel was your strongest assest to the team this week as the PM?
I would wager myself the biggest Hellboy fan of the group (IMO) and I did my best to make a Hellboy/BPRD comic that I would read. (Sadly, I was apparently alone in this.) I presented a lot of the early ideas and I think i did a very good job of blending the different ideas of my team into one cohesive one. (Even if we did lose on a technicality, not that I'm bitter.)
- You were very vocal early on that you wanted to the the PM if and ONLY if your team selected Hellboy. What's the deal with Hellboy? Where did your fandom come from?
I think that ultimatum has been misinterpretted, I wasn't trying to pressure folks into choosing Hellboy, I was merely saying, "Hey, I'm the biggest Hellboy nut here, if we go Hellboy, let me PM." If they chose another character, I didn't want to drag my team down PM a project that I had little knowledge of.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the last two, so I'll just say, I love Hellboy, I love everything about it, ever since I read the first couple of trades about 5 years ago. I don't know WHY I've always felt akin to that particular series and character, but I love supernatural fiction, and my personal creative style tends to reflect that, so I was like "hey, it's Hellboy, it's supernatural, let me PM."
- Of the three of you in the boardroom, who will be the biggest loss to the team in the longrun?
At the risk of sounding pompous, I'm going to say myself. Other than the obvious selfish reasons why I think me, I'll point out that I'm a strong creative mind, my particular focus in character over plot can sometimes be a weakness (as evidenced by how we lost this challenge, again, soooo not bitter), but in a team atmosphere it's a very useful tool, while everyone else focuses in on the where and how, I'm thinking about the who and the why. And I think that's needed in this game.

My questions for the three in the boardroom:
I think I made decent contributions. I mean I was vocal about how we should just do Hellboy as if he were there and to fill a void in genre that DC has lacked for quite a while. I was also vocal about how we should've integrated Roman and Matthew's takes since while Roman's was hellboy nutty (Which is good in terms of keeping the character intact) but Matt's was very good in the actual nuts and bolts of integrating him in a big way but without the crossovers and such. I also think we should've focused less on integrating a big DCU villian and more on telling Hellboy's story period without throwing in the big guns early on.
As for what I learned. I learned more about how to work with a team. I was able to compromise with the team on the initial week and we all mixed in our own views and I think I helped pretty well with that victory in terms of ideas. What I'm saying is that even though we're all Alpha males in the team I can work past our tendencies to want to see OUR individual ideas take spotlight, recognize a good idea and let it take precedence even if it isn't my own. I'm also good at mixing and matching stuff if I see it fits together.
In the long run I do believe if we lose me especially now that things have winded down for me and school and can devote my full attention it'd be a blow to the team. That's what I have to say long-winded, arrogant, or otherwise. ;)

1) not to make excuses or anything but this week was my last week of school for this year so I didn't have much free time. But I tried as much as I could to contribute what I could. I'm not sure if I was the first person to bring up the Shadowpact angle or not. But I think I might have been. I would have contributed in the art department but as I stated earlier I had been swamped with school stuff this week. I put in my two cents here and there when I saw something I liked, but with my very limited knowledge of Hellboy I couldn't add as much as I would have liked.
2) I've learned that working as a team is a great way to come up with a really fantastic story. Everybody putting their input and their pitches are always fun to read. If I were to stay this week I would bring this knowledge with me. This sense that it is a really great dynamic to have a group of people working on a specific subject to get a great story out there.
3) I think Roman would be the biggest loss to our team. He's always there to keep us on track and to make sure we all know what the latest developments are. I'm replaceable but Roman is one of a kind.

Some how I missed these questions.
1) Yes I will definitely be more involved in the weeks ahead. I'll have more time to come up with ideas and have input. I'll be able to do more artwork for our stories aswell.
2) Why must you ask such a hard question?? I don't want to see Roman go, and I want to stay, so I would have to say Omega. I think I should stay because I'm a pretty creative guy if you don't mind me being a pretentious ass for a minute. I think with school out of the way I'll be able to add more to the group and be a lot more involved with the process.

This was by far the trickiest week yet. We couldn't come to a majority until the last minute. All three people received votes to fire them, to illustrate how close it was. A one-vote switch would have knocked any of you out.
There were reasons to keep all three of you, and reasons to let all three of you go.
Roman, you made a lot of mistakes this week. We all felt this week was more about your ideas than your team's ideas, and we don't want to see that again. This was clearly a more personal pitch, but if you stay, you've got to be more willing to listen to your team's concerns. But you were very active, you put a lot of effort into this, and some of us felt you deserved a second chance to prove yourself. Others...were not so generous.
Omega. Mitch. Both of you were pretty inactive this week. You didn't contribute that much, you really weren't around, and while I know both of you had busy weeks, a lot of other people did too.
It was pretty hard to pick someone this week. Mitch, I was bothered that you didn't seem to have the killer instinct in the boardroom. At times, you were almost asking to be fired. And you nearly got your wish.
But at the end, the judges felt we had to go with the person who's been the least active over both weeks. Omega Flight, I'm sorry, but you're fired.

As am I, and my vote was the one that sent him packing. :( This was a tough vote for me, as I really didn't think any of the three did any one thing that I could point to as "wrong" or deserving of getting the ax. Would have loved to keep all 3, but damnit thems the breaks.

I'll come right out and say this: Roman, my vote was to give you the boot. You have been in games like this before and know how to play them (as well as the fact that I know you know how to write very well). I expected more from you as the PM. Specifically I think your skills at distributing work amongst your team was piss poor. It felt like you were letting people know what jobs were not complete but you were not telling people which tasks they were to work on. And that's why you had to take on a lot of the responsibility of assembling the pitch from the seven pieces you received. I think you had a lot of people doing double work. I expect to see more from you at this point now that you have the chance to move forward in the game. I was VERY happy with your effort this week in terms of energy. You just need to improve upon your delegation skills.
And that goes for everyone. If you're going to be the PM in the coming weeks, know that the ability to adequately use your team is something I will be paying close attention to.

I agree with just about all of this, and honestly, a week or two later I would have likely agreed.
I tend to be fairly lenient, both in this game and last, towards those who step up and blow it in the very early stages. So to both PMs who lost these last two weeks - I look forward to seeing what you have to offer in future weeks.
New challenge coming up.

Completely unrelated to the game...
I'm playing the new Prince of Persia and it finally struck me what happened to the Persian empire.
When you dedicated all your resources to building 200 foot tall switches that when pressed just turn on a sprinkler, you're kind of setting yourself up for collapse.
"Hey! How do we open this door?"
"Oh, it's no problem. Just run up the east wall, then backflip behind you and grab that one stone that juts out. Run up that wall to the next stone, then run across the wall and backflip off to the flagpole. Then flip to the next flagpole and the third one. From there just hit the wall your facing, run up it, and hit the pressure switch on the wall. Then drop down."
"Oh. Well then. It's not like I really had to go out to the market and pick up food today. I'm sure we still have some around here..."

Here is your week three challenge - Parental Guidance Suggested:
There's been a lot of talk on the board these days about what superhero comics should be. Some say that any kind of story can be told with any character. Others say that certain content shouldn't appear in stories with iconic superheroes. The companies have been pushing pretty far in terms of violent and sexual content the last few years, and some people are fighting back. They say that certain characters should be for all ages.
This week, you're going to prove them wrong.
Both companies have a Mature readers line - Vertigo and MAX. This week, your challenge is to take an existing superhero for DC or Marvel, and tell a unique story with them that could only be told under those imprints. Pick your character carefully, and think about what the mature readers branding will allow you to do.
You can use any character, except any who have had a Vertigo, MAX, or prominent Mature Readers title. So no Punisher, Batman, or Zatanna, for instance. However, if a character has appeared in a mature readers title (like J'onn in Sandman and Madame Xanadu) but has never starred in one, they're eligible. If you have any questions about if a character is eligible, we'll respond to the group with a ruling.
The story will not be in-continuity. You can tell something on the fringes of continuity, like Punisher MAX, or something completely out of continuity, like DKR. Other characters can be used as guest-stars, if you want.
You will be judged on how well you used the freedom of the Mature Readers line to tell a unique story, as well as whether it is a realistic pitch that the company is likely to greenlight.
Deliverable:
- Why you chose this character and why you feel this story should be told under the Vertigo/MAX banner.
- A pitch and story outline for the six-issue mini this story will be told in.
- The artist you want to bring it to life.
This challenge is due Saturday, June 12th at 6 EST.
Please tell me your PM as soon as possible, and good luck!

One day Peter Parker saw something he was never supposed to. It changed his life forever.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/CyberGhostface/Spider-Man592024.jpg
It screwed him up pretty badly.
http://www.i-mockery.com/comics/longbox23/pics/no-wheatcakes.jpg
But he eventually couldn't deny his feelings and when JJJ Sr was away, his Aunt sleeping...alone, Pervy Parker made his move.

But all was not lost. For the first time in a long time, Parker would have a happy ending, the next time MJ was out of town

Well it's alright. I'll have more time to spend with my cousins anyway so I guess it was for the best. I suppose I'll just have to devote my creative energy coming up with a clever plan of revenge. :-x

"Hi, I'm Neil Gaiman, I'm too cool to PM for you guys, I need to go right more gothic masterpieces, and try to to look even more like that chap from the Cure."
I can't let this pass.
Neil is far too smart a writer, let along person, to use "right" when he means "write."
