Fox planning to release 'Rise of the Apes' on June 24, 2011

Fox said Thursday that it will release the "Planet of the Apes" prequel "Rise of the Apes" on June 24, 2011.

The production will use CGI apes to be created by WETA Digital, rather than using costumed actors as in past installments of the sci-fi action franchise.

Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce for Fox, with Rupert Wyatt ("The Escapist") directing from a screenplay by Amanda Silver & Rick Jaffa.

Silver and Jaffa also are producing.

The pic will be set in San Francisco and is billed as a cautionary tale in which "man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy."

Location scouts came in to work last week to check out our loading dock for this. Too bad Marky Mark won't be in it.

Couldn't every movie where people haven't become apes yet be seen as a prequel to Planet of the Apes?

So this is the new Hollywood trend, fucking prequels? Apes, Aliens, The Thing. What else is there?

We need prequel prequels.

I must know Shmi Skywalker's story.

that is so original. maybe there really are so many different kinds of stories to tell and they've all been told.

maybe hollywood is really fucking lazy and rides on the belief that certain franchises have a guaranteed audience.

Incidentally, I know this'll suck, and the Burton movie was one of my all-time worst experiences, but for some reason the simple premise of showing the rise of the apes intrigues me. I like the idea of a handful of them getting loose, then growing exponentially in power - almost a zombie invasion type of vibe, but with smart fucking apes using machine guns and new strains of sarin gas and crazy shit only smart apes would invent.

I'd rather Episode -5: Young Obi-Wan eats a sandwich.

I think I know exactly how he did it.

Yo! It's about that time
To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme
I'm a get mine so get yours
I wanna see sweat comin' out your pores
On the house tip is how I'm swingin' this
Strictly Hip-Hop boy, I ain't singin' this
Bringing this to the entire nation
Black, white, red, brown
Feel the vibration

Didn't Hickman do a book about monkeys getting smart through experiments? A cautionary tale if I ever saw one. :)

I think the prequel for "Three Men and a Baby" would be some sort of gang-bang porn.
