The unique core gameplay mechanics sounds interesting. If done well, this could be rather clever.

Not sure the Ultimate world would create a different enough world for a video game.

Does Noir Spidey have his powers in the comics? I thought characters were suppose to be non-powered in that world.
I also hope for 2099 gameplay as we haven't seen that in a game. Can't think what I would like to see in the fourth world... Spider-Girl could be fun.

There were some parts that were super fun just to play. With that there were some extremely frustrating parts. It's a good renter, or if you can find a good deal on it.
I remember the one on the PS1 was pretty damn fun, I think it was called Enter Electro?

Not sure if it would make sense to Spidey Game Players but I'd like to see it.
If they wanted to go really far-fetched there's also 1604, The Captain Universe Powers, and the Civil War Iron Man costume.

I hope this game is good. We haven't really gotten an AMAZING Spider-Man game in awhile. (heh, see what I did there?)
it is interesting to see that they seem to go away from the open world-yiness from the last couple of games. I just hope there is some good web-slinging action, half the fun of those games is the web slinging. and tone down the difficultity. that really killed spider-man 3 for me. the ridiculous tough boss battles. never beat the goddamn kingpin. it was all button mashing for the bosses, and frustratingly hard to boot.
also please not that many quick time events.
as other people have pointed out. the very first psone game was all kinds of awesome, but of course a little limited. if they somehow catch that vibe it can be quite good.
another thing: i never got around playing ultimate spider-man, except for the ds-version, how was that game?

I've not played it but read a couple of reviews. and i bet it has the same probs most of the spidey games in the past had: lots of bugs that could be fixed if they put in a lil more time, hard maybe borderline ridiculous difficulty and button mashing, a too big of a world that could take some polish and mediocre voice acting. this was at least the case with spider-man 3

The style and story were top notch. It really is like being in the comic. Unfortunately the gameplay is sub par and the missions are repetitive.

I hated Spider-man 3 but loved Shadows. The web-zip attack is so cool that I'll be disappointed in any Spider-man game that doesn't have it. And they really make you feel like you're in the MU. I can't remember any problems I had with the game, but they were minor. It didn't have the same magic as the first PS1 game or Spider-man 2, but that's because it retreads alot of that same ground.

this, and that my pc couldn't play it (cause it needed a dual core 2 ghz or something).

This sounds weird, but potentially cool. For the other two alt worlds I think I'd most like to see 1602 and maybe the Marvel Zombies world, but I could see most any concept working if the gameplay is good.

Having both 1602 and Noir would be kinda overkill I think.
I'm leery about having 4 separate mechanics for each world, and having them all be good.
Most Spidey games can't even get the basics right.

What I'm wondering is if the basics aren't the same in all the worlds, but in, say, Noir World, they just add a few sneak moves and build levels to emphasize hiding?

How come you all bet your money on 1602?

Well if they want unique mechanics, in many ways a lot of existing universes don't work.
Also, the costumes wont neccesarily be identical to the comics. Spidey Noir has a trenchcoat in the comic for example. Using that logic, that costume could be anything.

The Punch-out boss fight thing makes me scratch my head. Why?
Because they wanted the boss fights to all be Unique? Alot of boss fights in games while kinda different all end up being kind of the same thing. It's not a bad thing to try something new and it'll work and people will like it or it won't and they won't do it again.

Oh sure. It seems so odd to me though. I can see it being fun with a Wii controller but I just can't see it being much fun with the xbox controller. Maybe they'll prove me wrong though. The game seems like a good idea. Plus Slott writing it is pretty awesome.

Oh crap - hadn't thought of that one.
Love the character but probably not specific enough for unique action and sort of difficult to explain the Earth X world as one level in a game.

Just a guess, but I can see him being added as DLC.
People will buy a zombie pack, spidey-fan or not.. but a 2099 pack (let's ignore that its in the game currently) is a harder sell.
That is, of course, provided they do DLC.
Oh, and you might want to archive that pic.. Activision isn't happy with Gamestop for spoiling things and has been contacting admins to get the pic yanked offline on various boards.
Someone mentioned that Captain Universe would be guiding/providing direction for each of the Spideys.. since an interview states that a "mystic force" guides all 4 during the course of the game.
As far as gameplay goes, again, just conjecture:
- 616: Acrobatic moves
- Noir: Stealth moves
- 2099: Tech moves

Hope that 3rd one is the zombie universe.
I was trying to figure out what the deal was with these but I see, its Captain Universe costumes over their regular ones.
I don't think the 3rd one is a zombie one though, I'd imagine we'd be seeing his teeth or something. Looks like it'll be a symbiote.

I quite liked Web of Shadows' gameplay, had alot of style, just wish it had more interesting missions and not the worst VA to ever be cast as Spider-Man.
Thought SM3 was a big pile of shit though.
Oh and while I'm at it and bored: Greg Giraldo for Spider-Man 2099.

. At the request of fans, Morgan said, “Shattered Dimensions” is focused around a more level-based game tailored to an experience between Spider-Man and the bosses. But she added that the environments of each universe are big enough so the game still has an open-world feel to it.
Were fans really clamoring for more closed space gameplay?
I think Spider-Man really suffers when you take away his range. I think the open world/sandbox is the best thing to happen to the character when it's done well (see the cool but short with a weird final boss Ultimate Spider-Man).

The Spider-man PS1 game is level-based, and it seems that most people rate that as one of the best Spider-man games or close to it.

Haven't thought about this game in a while - would the Goblin level be Ultimate Spidey?
The one that looked like a Venom in the Cosmic line-up?
Could be Ultimate Spidey in the Venom suit. Which is a cool angle given the personal connection to the suit in that universe.

I would like it to be Ultimate Spidey just because of my love for the series, but I can't imagine it being distinctive enough (either visually or in terms of gameplay) for it to warrant inclusion.
I'm going to say, for the hell of it, fourth dimension will be Spider-Ham.
And can someone clear this up for me... pre-ordering through GameSpot gets you Cosmic Spider-Man costume, and pre-ordering through Amazon gets you the Iron Spider armor, correct? I wonder if there will be a way to get both through DLC or if you can only have one or the other.

1602 does seem different enough and there's the whole Past, Present, Future thing to consider..
I wouldn't mind seeing REIGN either..

So, some things confirmed:
- Hobgoblin 2099 as the 2099 villain (I don't remember him)
- The hulked out Goblin is another Noir villain
and
- Watch at the end, SHIELD agents are freaking out, look to have Spider-Man masks around their necks. I can only assume that their being possessed by symbiotes....

- Watch at the end, SHIELD agents are freaking out, look to have Spider-Man masks around their necks. I can only assume that their being possessed by symbiotes....
INSTA-THEORY: Different developers, but from the Web of Shadows Wikipedia page:
If the player has made slightly more black-suited choices than red, Spider-Man leads the symbiote conquest of Manhattan and is hunted by Wolverine, who has bonded with another symbiote. If the player has made a majority of black-suited choices, the former ending is amended to show a symbiote-controlled Black Cat by his side during the invasion.
Could be the fourth Spidey?
- Hobgoblin 2099 as the 2099 villain (I don't remember him)
It's a new character created for the game.

2099 Gameplay details:
http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/215380/spider-man-shattered-dimensions-preview/
For Spidey's next video gaming outing, Activision takes elements of a few of his most well-known comic series, sticks them in a blender, and the result is four very different versions of the classic web-slinger. Activision and developer Beenox revealed all but one of the "dimensions," and we take a look at those heading into their E3 showing.
What we're talking about: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, an action game based everybody's favorite web-slinging superhero. Shattered Dimensions is being developed by Beenox Games, known for titles such as Bee Movie (the game) and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits.
Where we saw it: Activision played host to the press at Club Nokia in Los Angeles to showcase what's in store for the old webhead.
What you need to know:
* Shattered Dimensions has four different takes on Spider-Man, opening up the chance to have a fair amount of variety with the game as each dimensions comes with its own distinct characters, visuals, gameplay styles and story elements.
* The first dimension takes place in the standard Marvel universe, following the exploits of the Amazing Spider-Man, and is the most widely known version of everyone's favorite web-slinger. This dimension brings everything that's iconic about Spidey - the classic red and blue costume, bright and vibrant visuals, loads of wall-crawling and web swinging, and the trademark acrobatic fighting style that this particular superhero is so well known for.
* The second dimension takes place in Marvel's "Noir" universe, and is a slightly darker (both figuratively and literally) take on Spider-Man, using a style commonly found in pulp crime novels. The gameplay falls in line with this darker approach as there's an emphasis on stealth, with slower and more methodical gameplay elements incorporated to encourage you to stay in the shadows as often as possible. You'll still have access to the core Spider-Man abilities, so he'll still be able to handle himself in a fight, but the developers tell us that sometimes it pays to remain unseen.
* Revealed for E3 is the third dimension: Spider-Man 2099, and it's the most different of the three dimensions. This version of the webhead has the standard Spider-Man abilities, but adds a faster combat style as well as his advanced senses, which he can use to slow down time to avoid incoming danger, or to lay some extra hurt bombs down on any villains. A new freefall mechanic has also been incorporated into this dimension (which looks similar to those found in the recent Ratchet & Clank games), allowing you to get the drop on enemies below you, regardless of whether they're on the ground or in the air, adding to the variety found in this adventure.
Point in development cycle: The game's due out in September, so I'm going to go ahead and say that what we saw was a beta build.
My take: I'm a fan of Spider-Man games in general, and this one seems like it'll be a decent addition to the series. While I usually enjoy the standard approach, the different dimensions seem like they'll provide a fair amount of variety to the game, which will potentially keep my interest high throughout the narrative. Granted, I have a few quibbles, but most of them have little to do with the game (Nerd alert: I'm not a fan of the Spider-Man Noir comic series at all; the 2099 series takes place in the future, not a different dimension!), so I'm willing to keep an open mind about the final product. Whether or not it's a success remains to be seen, but some interesting things are being done with the game, so I'm optimistic about how things will turn out.
DS Version details: (exclusives)
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64164
-The DS version will not be linear such as the console versions will be. As I previously stated, it will follow the SM:WOS DS formula of exploration (that was borrowed from Metroid and Castlevania anyway).
-There will be only three dimensions in the DS version. Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, and either Spider-Man 2099 or the mystery fourth Spider-Man will be the third in this version of the game.
-There will be only seven villains in the DS version, compared to the thirteen in the console versions.
-Four out of the seven villains in the DS version will be exclusive ONLY to the DS version. These four villains have been especially created for the DS version. Two of the villains are: Calypso and Electro. Calypso will be in DS Noir (another new Noir character) and Electro will be in DS Amazing.
Finally, spoilers from the game developer - how to beat a certain character, and anothers origins.

What appears to be the final box art for Activision's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is here, thanks to Gamefly, apparently revealing the fourth, still unofficially revealed incarnation of Spidey. And he's black.
That black suit version of Spider-man could be a throwback to the post-Secret Wars webslinger, when Peter Parker was the owner of a dark, alien symbiote that could transform itself into a multitude of costumes. It's the same suit that eventually bonded with Eddie Brock to become the villain known as Venom.
Or it could just be a black costume, not a sentient unitard and mask, but where's the fun in that? All we know is that Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will go black and that Activision will be talking about the game in greater detail at the San Diego Comic-Con next week. "Four Worlds, One Story: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions the Video Game" happens next Friday and we expect official confirmation of what that fourth dimension is by then.
Activision has already confirmed that Spider-man will take the form of Amazing, Noir and 2099 in the multi-platform game due out this September.

Agreed with all the above - really cool too how the black of the Noir is distinguished from the cooler purple/black of the symbiote suit.
Including the 2099 costume, Spidey's got the best variant costumes of any hero. Even the Iron Spidey eventually grew on me.

Activision, please... PLEASE just make this at least mediocre on Wii. That's all I ask. If this game is terrible, I will be so, so mad at you. All I ask is mediocre. I'm hoping for awesome, like the first PS1 game, but if it's at least mediocre, you will have my $50. I swear.

My theory is that it's a new alternate dimension where he's full succumbed to the black costume.
This of it like Lost: we're getting the past (Noir), present (Amazing), future (2099), and "sideways" (the black suit) realities.

According to Wikipedia, the general public isn't too thrilled about the Ultimate Universe's inclusion:
As soon as it was revealed that the Ultimate Universe was the final Dimension and players would be playing as Symbiote Spiderman, fan reaction has been universally negative. The main complaint being that Ultimate Spiderman is nearly identical to Amazing Spiderman, and players already played as Symbiote Spiderman in the mediocre title Ultimate Spiderman (which is visually identical to the level revealed in Shattered Dimensions). Fan reaction has been so negative, that there are already online petitions to boycott the developers and the game itself.
Personally, I'm excited about the Ultimate Spider-Man being in the same. I think this outrage is due to the fact that most of these people "boycotting" the game are that special kind of evil that occurs when someone is both a rabid videogame and comic book fan.

Well, it is the biggest alternate reality Spidey's got.
Spider-Girl or Spider-Ham would have been pretty awesome, though.
Ultimate Spider-Man pulls the camera back slightly, giving a more God of War-like perspective in which to play some God of War-like action. The punches, kicks and throws of Ultimate Spidey are powered by whipping tendrils of symbiote flesh, giving this Spider-Man more range. That's helpful, given the flood of foes that attack Spider-Man in the Ultimate dimension, enemies that include armed soldiers and massive mechanical Spider Slayers. Since the demo version of Spidey was maxed out with upgradeable powers and abilities, it was a breeze.

It looks like Spider-Man will be getting some veteran voice acting behind it. Josh Keaton who voiced the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series in 2008 will be lending his voice to the Ultimate Spider-Man. Dan Gilvenez from the 1980s Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends series will be taking on the role of Migeul O’Hara as Spider-Man 2099.
From the 1990’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Christopher Daniel will be Spider-Man Noir. Finally, the most impressive of the list comes from Neil Patrick Harris from the short-lived MTV CGI Spider-Man series who will take the helm of the Amazing version of Peter Parker.I gotta admit that the 90's series is part of what got me hooked on Spidey as a kid. To this day his voice is kinda the basis of the voice I "hear" whenever I read a Spidey comic so it'll be cool to hear him again. Also dig Keaton and NPH.

I LOVED MTV Spider-Man, so I really geeked over NPH's hiring, but the fact that they got so many other classic Spidey voices is just icing on the cake. This really is the most ambitious comic-book video game I've ever seen.
