View Full Version : Calling comic book artists! Will you design my tattoo?

I have a very ugly tattoo on my chest that I would like to get turned into a nice piece that flows into my left arm for about a three-quarter sleeve.
The idea I have for the tattoo is this.
The ugly black silhouette of the gargoyle (which is the current tattoo) would be turned into a view of stars in space as the background which would also fill gaps between characters down my arm.
I would like to incorporate Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kilowog.
I would like two to three Guardians in different poses.
I would like the Green Lantern Central Battery and 3-4 Green Lantern rings of different sizes (showing distance) flying through space (around my arm) with green contrails, looking for new bearers.
I would also like to work in Nekron, Saint Walker, Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Sinestro (yellow costume), an Indigo Lantern and yes, even Carol Ferris as a Star Sapphire.
I'm not sure what pose works best for trying to design this so there are a few for you to work with.

This last picture is my inspiration behind the tattoo, but I don't want a complete copy of it or anything.

You should go to a shop.
Comic artists generally dont know much about tattoos.

And now a question to boggle the mind.

Only answer this thread needs, right there.
Take that 50 you're going to drop and give it to the tattoo artist as a tip. GO to a shop and tell him what you posted here. It's for the best. Afterall, he's the one that has to apply it.

Anyone wanna find me a full body shot of Kilowog from a comic that looks like he's flying?

Are you currently a working, well-known artist? If not, chalk it up to experience and resume building. ;)

Work is work, sucka!

Alright! Got it. Now, it's nothing mindbendingly awesome, and it's not to 100% exact specifications. But I think I got the general idea.
Let me know if the image doesn't show up, and I'll upload it again when I get home.

Go to a tattoo shop and talk to an actual tattoo artist.

Why would he think that?

At least now he has something he can give to an actual tattoo artist without them saying what the fuck is a guardian?
I'm sure I am missing some important piece to all this, so I will back awaya as it doesn't concern me in any way....
Did remind me to post my Mall/Godzilla request, so that is something!

This sounds like a horrible idea for a tattoo.

He thought Ryan was going to draw something.
A professional level comic book artist is expected to draw and ink something with more than half a dozen characters...in action poses and with a background...for $50?
I'm thinking that what Ryan did is above and beyond what most people would have even done in a similar circumstance. And Steven should be damn happy to have received something like that so quickly. Like Brian said. At least now Steven will have something to take to the actual tattoo artist to have him start working with to create his/her own piece to put on his arm.

I am not knocking Ryan. I may also have assumed to much on what Steve is thinking.

I know. I was agreeing with you and pointing out what seems to be the ludicrousness of the original request. Pretty much everyone here said Steven should go direct to the tattoo artist and bring reference for what he wants. I think they're right.
