I pick really cheap connecting flights and I'm going to be in Atlanta for four hours tomorrow. Any ideas on where I should go before I get back on the plane to San Fransisco?
I am a fan of weird ethnic food if that helps at all.

Take a cab to the Varsity. Eat hotdogs and/or hamburger. Vomit.

by the time you get away from the airport, it will be time to head back there.

Hahahaha So, so true. Their FO's are pretty tasty, though.

I'm in Atlanta this weekend too! What times will you be at the airport?

If you feel comfortable navigating MARTA, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere.

And if you don't feel comfortable meeting me, you could take the MARTA to somewhere like Decatur or Little 5 or 5 Points. :)

4 hours isn't a lot of time considering you'll have to get back in line through security.

If Futurama has taught me nothing else, you should try to find the magician...or at least the guy who invented Coke.

Check out what this girl did when she was stuck in Pittsburgh overnight, might give you some ideas. :)

I agree. There's no way I'd leave the airport and try to get around Atlanta. Plus, the airport is massive and there's plenty to do, in a shopping mall kind of way.

Don't bother leaving the airport. Four hours really isn't a lot of time to leave Hartsfield and get back and do anything good.

Go to the Sweetwater Draft House in the airport and grab you a beer. Best microbrewery in the southeast if you ask me.

Technically you'll only be there for 3 hours and 15-30 minutes since boarding starts between half an hour to 45 minutes before the posted flight. Find a restaurant and have a nice meal, read a mag and don't leave the airport.

I honestly can't figure out if this is a "hey, lookit me" thread or you just haven't traveled much.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt that it is the latter, take the advice that tells you to grab a book and stay in the airport. Atlanta is a huge airport and four hours isn't enough time to warrant leaving it even if it wasn't.

.

Some airports are closer to the action than others, was just trying to get a feel for what Atlanta's deal was.
Treacle, I shot a text to the number you PM'ed me awhile ago before I didn't end up going to Dragon Con. At some point we do need to meet up.

Are we supposed to be impressed by her jet-setting lifestyle and 4-hour layovers in luxurious Atlanta?

Saginaw has three comic shops, bub. And Stephen Colbert's favorite hockey team!

Yeah, Atlanta is pretty awful. I have to travel a couple of times a week for work and dread ANY layover in Atlanta.

So 4 hours is not enough time where leaving makes ANY sense. Bring a book, PSP, or laptop or something and have a relaxed meal and beer (if you are so inclined) inside the terminal somewhere.

Find an airport bar. They have saved my life many a time during layovers.

Seriously.

I survived a layover in Detroit (where they still have posters up warning about BIRD FLU... way to stay current Detroit) by the grace of an airport bar once.

Yes. As a kid I flew standby (my dad is a pilot for United Airlines), now as an adult airports give me horrible anxiety and just all-around bad association. I once flew standby, as an adult, a couple years ago and got stranded in LAX, because I kept getting bumped off flights. I would go and wait in the terminal, get bumped off, go to the bar, order beer, rinse and repeat about 4 or 5 times. I was tossed by the time I actually made it on the flight (at 11:30pm that night), but I survived!

A couple of years back we were stuck in LAX for ten hours. And this was after they introduced anti-smoking laws which meant that little open air garden in the terminal was locked to keep out anyone who might want to sneak a smoke. Nearly had a panic attack from the lack of fresh air. There were two restaurants and they were both horrific, the 'hot dog' at one burned my throat, not from heat but some kind of acid. Plus, the internet kiosk was broken, two keys were transposed so typing on it was crazy. Hate LAX.

I dunno. That makes as much sense as the alternative.

I disagree. If a person wasn't familiar with Atlanta, I don't see what's so unlikely about thinking that there could potentially be something within walking distance of the airport where one could waste a couple of hours and still be back in time for their departing flight.
