I didn't see this posted yet.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A woman opened fire in a biology faculty meeting at the University of Alabama's Huntsville campus Friday, killing three people and injuring three others, two of them critically, officials said. The shooter was caught outside the Shelby Center, a science building, without incident, according to university spokesman Ray Garner. He said he could not identify her or the victims. Local media reported the shooter was a faculty member.

No students were involved, Garner said. All three of those killed and two of the injured were faculty members. The third injured person was a staff member.

Huntsville Hospital spokesman Burr Ingram said two of the injured were in critical condition and the third was in stable condition.

Sophomore Erin Johnson told The Huntsville Times a biology faculty meeting was under way when she heard screams coming from the room.

University police secured the building and students were cleared from it.

The Huntsville campus has about 7,500 students in northern Alabama, not far from the Tennessee line. The city is home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.

The university posted a message on its Web site Friday afternoon telling students the campus was closed Friday night and all students were encouraged to go home. Counselors were available to speak with students.

Garner said at a news conference that the shooting was not unlike one the area experienced a week ago, when a 14-year-old student was killed in a middle school hallway, allegedly by a fellow student.

"This town is unaccustomed to shootings and multiple deaths," he said.

Supposedly, she was a professor who got passed over for tenure. The three killed were all university staff/faculty.

Wonder what sparked that.Someone slept with her, slept with someone else, or simply did not want to sleep with her anymore. I'd put money on that.

I think I'm just biased.

I've been to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas and Florida several times each.

I'm sick of southern accents.

And how many of the "science places" (as you so eloquently put it) did you get to tour in those states?

None. Most of the visits were vacations with family.

I would have loved to go to a science museum or something similar.

If it were just faculty staff that were shot, then it's easy to figure out it was job related.

I love southern accents and always felt gipped that I never had a strong one. One thing I miss about not living in the south any more is the accents. Not all of them mind you. But the good ones.

Someone should organize a parade just in case.

When are we finally going to address violence against men? It's sickening that this matriarchal society continues to ignore this outrage.

Yeah, how ridiculous that anyone would be conducting science in Huntsville, AL, home of the Marshall Space Flight Center and the NASA Space Flight Museum.

What I concerns me here is that - if that was an accidental shooting - she still handled guns. I know, for instance, if I killed someone while driving a car, it would be very hard for me to get behind the wheel again - but I realize everyone's different. Still, makes me think this is a classic sociopath (just heard she was a suspect in an attempted bombing at Harvard years ago).

On the radio they are saying it was a professor who was denied tenure.

"Tenure? Rickey got fifteen years in the big leagues."

Sorry, that quote always springs to mind when I see/hear the word 'tenure'. :)
