by BETA RAY BILL

Supposedly, there was some legal problems, so they substituted BRB instead of SS.

Also, World War Hulk is all set to go, provided this film doesn't tank.

sweet. looking forward to this.

As for the change...I see no problems with it. Truthfully I don't think who the character is matters as much as it being someone cosmic based, super powerful, and being at least somewhat known.

I'm impressed with their ability to take a legal issue like this and create a successful solution to it instead of just scraping the project. I’m really looking forward to this and Planet Hulk.

I was bracing for something like "a purple cloud" and an appropriate nerd tsunami of rage. As it turns out, BRB is a really good fit here.

I'm not upset, just giving a heads up to fans of either character :)

Kinda hard balancing whether or not to spoil who it is with the title, so I opted for this instead.

Thor hype train is starting early it looks like :D

Not as good of a fit as TTYL would have been.

Huh. I was all ready to be pissed off about them replacing Surfer with some no name gladiator on the planet, but this is actually kinda cool.

I have no idea what a TTYL is. And once you've read that as Talk To You Later, there's no figuring it out. :) Help?

It's too bad they have to change it, but I can't wait for my son to see Beta Ray Bill on the screen.

My thoughts exactly. I saw the subject line and went "Aw, nuts." Then I clicked on it and saw Beta Ray Bill is in it and went "Oh shit."

That's pretty awesome.

Was lucky enough to catch a screening at the Paley Center for Media and without a doubt best Marvel animated movie thus far. So many great easter eggs for comic fans and really faithful to Pak's original story.

I know this might sound crazy but I would have actually went for someone like Beta Ray Bill in the actual story.

He strikes me as a more fun opponent for someone like The Hulk.

Yep, although, there was the whole Defenders tie-in with the Surfer. And it was a nice tease for what was in store for the Illuminati. Surfer could act as a herald for the Hulk's arrival, etc :D

Bill's definitely more of a "brawler" than the Surfer is.

Saw it last night-- you can read thoughts/review here:

Since it's already spoiled, I'll say that the BRB scene played REALLY well with the audience. Like, people applauding. It's really cool to see Bill get some love.

Hopefully the Sentry will be replaced by Thor in WWH as well. I'd much rather see a proper Hulk-Thor throwdown. The one we got in Hulk Vs. did not satisfy me in the slightest.

It'd be cool, but it doesn't make much sense storywise. If I remember correctly, sentry was brought in because his presence calms hulk. Why would they bring Thor in other to fight and destroy more of the city/make hulk angrier?

No, Reed Richards was able to duplicate the calming effect of the Sentry's power but it didn't work. Sentry was brought in simply for muscle. Storywise, Thor is a better fit for that. More importantly, I'm sick of the Sentry and everything Sentry-related.

Man, I don't remember that at all. Hmm.

But yeah, if that's the case, then Thor definitely makes more sense.

Sentry was brought in because he was one of the Hulks' remaining friends. It was to drive the point home that he had no friends left. All bridges were being burned.

Thor would have none of that and serves no purpose. And besides, we've seen Hulk vs. Thor to death. Never Hulk vs Sentry.

I'll admit that I have a huge anti-Sentry bias. I have a lot of trouble accepting Jenkin's Hulk as Sentry's sidekick/pet stories as Hulk canon. The less they're refered to, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Thor vs. Hulk is a classic mash-up and is perfectly at home in a WWH story. I prefer any superhuman slugfest to be in a populated urban area, where cars and buses can be thrown around and characters punched straight through buildings. WWH is the perfect vehicle for that.

Thinking about the change from Silver Surfer to Beta Ray Bill some more...and it dawned on me that the only time previously I've ever seen Beta Ray Bill in animated form was in the Silver Surfer cartoon that aired on Fox in the 90's (which was a really good cartoon IMHO...sad that it ended on a cliffhanger)

Surfer makes more sense in the original story precisely because he's noble and forced into the arena battles.

But I love me some Space Horse (said that more times this week than I care to admit) and I'm curious how they'll explain his origin.

That is a weird friggin' episode, too. Bill's people are living in a dream where they're pseudo-Asgardians.

i understand that maybe copyright rules or whatever got in the way of having SS in the story like he originally was but I think SS is more of an impact as a fan... at least for most fans.

but non-fans aren't going to miss it. so what the hell. as long as they can deliver a good cartoon with good action and story.

Man I HATED Thanos' voice in the Silver Surfer cartoon.

I remember not liking Thanos in it as well, but I can't remember what he actually sounded like.

It certainly was not of the Michael Ironside as Darkseid calibre casting that DC toons had.

In the Silver Surfer toon, Thanos sounds like a Shakespearan actor or something with a somewhat regular toned voice.

In the comics, his word balloons have this dark, scratchy outline, so I always assumed his voice was deep and "rocky", shades of Michael Ironside obviously.

Yeah, when I read Thanos I usually think of a 'Dr. Claw' from Inspector Gadget kind of voice.
