Dude. The Verve Pipe was SOOO 1990's.This is the common misconception... most people don't know them beyond The Freshmen, but they're missing out on a fantastic band. I've kept track of them since the '90's, and I have all their studio albums... they're all great.

Have you heard these songs? If not, they are free...

I'm giving them a try. I'll let you know. Sound a lot like Dave Matthews. At least the first one does.

And as much as I like these songs (which appear on their album Underneath), they're a bit lightweight compared to the previous album titled The Verve Pipe... that's a well-written album full of introspection, self-awareness, and awesome buzzing guitars... IMO among the more undeservedly overlooked albums of the last decade.

Have you heard Brian's solo album? That's good shit.I don't know what happened -- I heard it was coming out, then got totally distracted by my life... then was perusing Amazon, and saw it again... I haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure it's great. I'll pick it up as soon as I can...

this would be so awesome if it were 1998.Just because most of their albums were made in the '90's doesn't mean their music is "dated".

I can't argue that they are a one-hit band... but I will argue that they don't deserve to be. Check 'em out, people -- it's free. It's good stuff. I fyou like it at all, I'm here to tell you there's even better stuff on their full albums.

I can't argue that they are a one-hit band...

Technically, they had two top-tens and two other in the top-20. It's just that people only remember the one.

Give it up, dude. I don't think it's happening.

I feel your pain. I tried for weeks to get people to try Low's latest album, THE GREAT DESTROYER. A great album, maybe my album of the year so far, and all I wanted was for people to try the 30-second samples on Amazon or iTunes. And only three people responded, and they'd all heard it before and liked it, so that hardly counts.

Incidentally, that pic you posted isn't helping your "they didn't peak in the '90s" argument. That guy looks like a bully from MY SO-CALLED LIFE.

That guy looks like a bully from MY SO-CALLED LIFE.Thanks for the advice -- but if you've read my Song For Bendis, you'll realize I have no shame... I love this band so much, I will pimp them until the end of time... besides, I think this thread is the only thing that keeps The Roman Candle from hating me.

I'll check out the band you mentioned -- I really like the idea that in htis community of creative people, that we could open each other up to experiencing new things... unfortunately, it seems that preconceptions are winning out. But I downloaded Wren's recommended band: http://www.redelvises.com/mp3s.htm (http://www.redelvises.com/mp3s.htm)
I put it on a CD, and I'll listen to it tomorrow. Maybe I'll like it, and maybe I won't, but I'll give it a try.

And that's all I'm hoping for here -- no one has to love The Verve Pipe... but I'm telling you all they're a great band, and offering a chance to try them out for free: http://www.thevervepipe.com/music_downloads.html (http://www.thevervepipe.com/music_downloads.html)
Why not give it a try? If you like these (and I do) they've got some even better ones on their albums.
