I thought we were making fun of the nations attempt to provide health care.
He didn't even seek help, even when offered. It's one thing to not have health insurance, it's another thing to not seek any help whatsoever.
If you're in that much pain, either physically or mentally, and you want to go on living all that shit about money or pride, or in this case, GOD, needs to go away, and you need to find help, however you can. If this guy had done his best to get help to find help and still failed, I would be more sympathetic.
Also, would it make me a heartless conservative bastard to point out that the yearly cost of owning four dogs and internet service is probably enough to pay for a modest (although hardly comprehensive) health insurance plan?

he's with Jesus now, so it's all good.
Didn't the guy say he didn't seek treatment because he didn't have health insurance? He couldn't afford any treatment. So not having health insurance is indirectly responsible for his death. Obviously, his fat ass is directly responsible.
But you guys do know that things can indirectly affect other things, right? I hope you don't really see the world is such simple terms.

And I doubt they wouldn't have tried to pull some kind of pre-existing condition bullshit on any possible problem he had that links back to his weight.

Of course they would've been high, but Christ, he could've gotten SOME form of help with that money, if only temporary.
I'm not making an argument for or against universal health care here (an anecdote is no basis for public policy), just against docility and sloth.

Life and Death in a Recliner in South Carolina- Dan Savage
At least a hundred people have forwarded me a link to this story, suggesting it for Slog since it has so many hilarious details. A morbidly obese man in South Carolina who couldn't get out of the recliner in his living room, his wife of two years who cleaned the recliner every morning because her morbidly obese husband used the chair as a toilet, the morbidly obese man, a former preacher, passing his time in the recliner "posting sermons online" and "talking about religion to other people on the Internet." And when the man died on his second wedding anniversary—of a heart attack at age 33—his wife telling the AP that she "had the worst anniversary" but her husband "had the best one he ever had because he's with Jesus now."
Hilarious?
Sorry, no. The story is an indictment of the American "health care" system. That man needed to be in a bed in a hospital, not in a recliner in a mobile home. Here are really damning details: Daniel Webb was in that recliner because paramedics deposited him there after bringing him home from the hospital. He'd been in the hospital for the emergency treatment of a weight-related knee injury. "Ada Webb said she begged hospital officials to keep him after doctors treated his knee injury in March. But the couple had no way to pay and were sent home." Webb was in the recliner for eight months, dying by inches, and didn't seek help "because he... didn't have health insurance."
Webb was a sick man who needed to be in a hospital—and, I'm sorry, but it sounds like he needed to be far away from his loving wife. In the eight months he was in that recliner Webb went from 550 pounds to "about 800 pounds," according to police. Webb had no health insurance and a feeder and/or enabler at home. I'm sorry, Slog tippers, but I don't think this story is particularly funny. I think it's a sad indictment of our health care "system."

Here's the thing. I don't know if you notice but with the exception of the Prop 8. thread I started a couple of weeks ago (and I happen to think the Prop. 8 issue is not a partisan issue as much as a moral one) I tend to steer clear of starting threads with the expressed purpose of antagonizing those on the other side of politics than me. If I were to start a "Keith Olbermann rocks" thread I would be doing it to antagonize people like you and bachman. It's pretty obvious to me this thread was started to piss off the lefties of the board. To me that's trollish behavior. And I suppose by responding to it I'm giving bachman exactly what he wants. So I'm off to post in other threads. Sorry if I got your feathers in a ruffle Ray, I'm just calling it like I see it.
