Don't get me wrong I'm up for a thick, big assed Sue Storm any day of the week. And the costume on this statue says Fantastic Four, but the posture and everything else about her says, "do you want me to freshen up that coffee for ya, hon?"

A most fascinating piece of work.

After the Adam Hughes Mary Jane statue came out, I noticed that all of Marvel's statues that have their female characters in "sexy" poses now have the MAX label on them. I think it's there so they don't have to explain themselves when there is some uproar over the sexualization of the character.

I defended the Mary Jane statue and still do to some degree. This one seems a little oddball to me, but I think there's clearly a market for hyper-sexualized heroine statues and while they're not really anything I would buy, I don't find them the work of the devil or anything. I've seen a few that were genuinely cute, and some that were kind of awful. Like any other statue style, I guess!

I actually think this one's pretty good. I'd like to own it. The Invisible Woman one... eh, not so much. Aside from the costume it doesn't seem like the character at all. It's possible to make her very sexy without making her look like a vintage, half-drunk Farrah Fawcett.

As anyone who's ever flipped through the statue section of Previews can attest, the Japanese have no compunctions about fetish statues of cartoon characters. I wonder about the larger cultural implications. On one level, it seems healthy to be able to be upfront about fetishes, but I've also heard that Japan has a high percentage of adult virgins whose only knowledge of sex comes through porn and fantasy imagery. Which sounds like a bad trend.
