View Full Version : How can we make this board better?

When I join this board first it was full of life, energy, conversation etc.

It's more or less dead these days.

What happened?

How can we get it back to it's glory days?

First off I think the admins should take down this image from the board home page. I find it offensive.

If memory serves me correctly, Tommie, you came to this board when Mike was at the height of his writing for Marvel and Dynamite.
Fans of his work on RED SONJA, OMEGA FLIGHT, STORMBREAKER and ARES, entered discussions of that work and the community spun out of that.

But what I have noticed this year is that Mike has FOUR books...MICE TEMPLAR: DESTINY, RAPTURE, POWERS and now GOD COMPLEX...yet nobody discusses Mike's own projects on Mike's own board.

The average long-term fan or new fan who is drawn to Mike's board because of enjoying Mike's work, scopes out the threads and finds nothing to interest them. What drew them to check out the board in the first place is not what is discussed here.

So how do we bring life back to the board?
My suggestion would be to start talking about Mike's work.

Mike's watercolor covers on the new MICE TEMPLAR: DESTINY have been some of his best, imo! And those opening 8 flashback battle pages are absolutely stunning; again, imo, some of the absolute BEST work he has ever produced!

RAPTURE is heartbreaking. It is an apocalypse after all. And Taki is writing it. It is a series of power and pathos. I can't wait to see how it's all going to end. Mike was drawing pages to the climactic issue #6 before he left my home last Wednesday night!

And wow...POWERS is coming back...and it looks to kick some serious ass!
I must confess that POWERS came out when I was not reading comics; and then I'm a stickler for reading things from the beginning. But I've made reading the new POWERS a priority regardless of being caught up or not (just as I have with Brian's new ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series). I can't wait for it to come out!!!

And have you seen that new cover for GOD COMPLEX? Incredible! Dan Berman will be writing it from Mike's plot (as he did on THOR and SIX), and own very own John Broglia is kicking ass on the interior art!

Right there, gang: Four topics to start discussions!
Let the board be about Mike's work again...participate in those, and the side conversations will grow once more as new fans are drawn in!

That's my two bits!
-Bryan :)

I'm a big fan of Oeming's work. It's saddening that it's (the board) kinda' dead.

With all due respect to the above comments, we must each of remember that there is a wax and wain to the seasons of the board.

Dead is not dead until all threads are closed and every user banned.

Can't argue against that.

I'm looking over the main page, there are plenty of threads about all sorts of things. Some about Mike, some not. Some about comics, some not. I don't see it being any different than "before"

What is different , let's be honest:
1 - Mike is busy and can't post nearly as much as he used to
2 - We had some people jaded by some things that went down in the past

That makes for a very disjointed board. We never had the numbers that Bendis' forum had, we were a pretty close-knit community of people. And when we lost some of those people, posts die down and people get jaded.

I will try whole-heartedly once again to kick-start this board...but I am not going to invest as much time as I used to for the simple fact as that no one else is around to retort / discuss.

That's my 2 cents.

Just about everything everyone has said is correct, I'd like to add a happy note to all that which is - a lot of folks that used to post here more frequently got careers or at least jobs in the comic book industry - Paul Azaceta, John Broglia, Christian Ward, Scott Wegener, Taki Soma, and look I know I'm missing folks, but people went and got busy! :)

We never had the numbers that Bendis' forum had, we were a pretty close-knit community of people.

i think this is both what was great about the board and essentially what's "killed" it.

this was (and is) a very close-knit group. and outside conventions this was the place to interact with each other. now, being as close as everyone is, interactions take place on facebook, over IM, on telephones, even live in person. i don't need jinxworld to interact with rob reilly, not when i can just join him at a super kick-ass steel panther (http://www.steelpantherrocks.com/) show.

even people who i really don't see unless its at on con, such as the award winning bryan glass, there's still facebook.

i still check the board on a daily basis, and it's a great way for everyone to interact as a group, but the fact is technology and other factors have made it less necessary and i think it shows in the level of activity

So are we saying that to make this boiard good again we all have to make an effort not to be lazy and to try to post at least once a day till we get the swing again?

I think we all could do that! Maybe :)
