Green Lantern 46 - Anyone else just not digging Blackest Night as much as Sinestro Wars? This just isn't clicking at all for me. This isn't fun Space Opera stuff...
Spider-Man 607 - I liked this but I'm still waiting for these Spider-Man books to really go for it. They seem quite content to be solid...but very rarely have we had any outstanding arcs (I thought Waid's two parter with Marcos Martin about Shocker and then Slott's issue 600 have been the peaks of the series thus far). This was fine but the book feels like it is in a holding pattern.
Spider-Man Clone Sage - Bizarre. I just kind of can't believe this is actually being done. It is intriguing but the Life of Reily web-series was probably a more interesting read than this can be. Are they releasing trades of the Clone Saga or something?
Thunderbolts 136 - Ugh...Andy Diggle is not doing the best job here but I feel like he's been kind of screwed over ever since his run began. I hope his Daredevil is a lot better / smoother. Also, I didn't care for the reveal on who Scourge really is. Just made me groan - what's the point?
Secret Warriors 8- Book of the week but that's not saying to much. Liked Vitti's art a lot here. Very excited for The List with McGuinness' art and for issue 9 as this had a nice cliffhanger.

Scourge is actually Nuke - the character from Frank Miller's Born Again. I think he also popped up in Wolverine: Origins (I remember some Hitch drawn covers) at some point but I don't read that series.

I had the opposite take, I thought this was great space opera stuff and actually better than the last issue of Blackest Night.

RE: Scourge's ID
CLUE #1
On the same cover shot that gave us clues to Yelena really being Natasha, we also saw a picture of Nuke over the spot where Scourge would be standing in the line-up. there is absolutely no reason for Nuke to be drawn into the shot unless he was one of the Thunderbolts in disguise; same as there was no reason to have Natasha on the cover.
CLUE #2
During Scourge's 1st appearance, Norman talks about his disappointment in what Scourge had done to his repaired face? Scourge says that it felt natural.

I agree. I like how Sinestro was portrayed in the past few issues. It made it possible to both like and dislike him at the same time and showed that there is still some humanity in him. I think Blackest Night is a good premise but I wish that it wasn't spanning the whole DC universe and instead was kept in the Green Lantern books. In the rest of the DC universe it just feels like a way to resurrect dead characters and makes it too much to try to keep track of. The story is much stronger when the focus is on the Corps.

ASM 607 - The three or four pages of fill in art really made me mad. I'd have rather waited a week and gotten to see McKone draw it all. When a book like this ships this regularly it be fine if an issue got pushed back to keep the art consistent. Really enjoyed the two parter, and I hope we see more of the Black Cat.
GL 46 - This was great. Can't wait for the whole Blackest Nights storyline to be done and to sit down and read it in one big sitting. Wonderful comic.
Still have to read Clone Saga thing, which I'm quite excited about.

In my (oh so humble) opinion, Marvel Adventures Spider-man kicked the crap out of Amazing Spider-man this week (and the last few months). Paul Tobin is doing something really special now that he has been given the authority to build a continuity/supporting cast for marvel adventures spider-man (and the Marvel Aventures line in general). Amazing, on the other hand, seemed a little off these last two issues (and I like Joe Kelly/have supported BND) maybe I'm just a little put off what with all the sex in the comic since 600... wasn't the whole point of BND and undoing the marriage was to make Peter more geared towards a young audience? In this whole "moratorium on dating is OVER" thing, it's coming off a little skeezy. That said, Diablo kind of works as a Spider-man villian in the classic "incredibly powerful but never used to his full potential so he can be beat up by spider-man" way.
Green Lantern was pretty cool too.

I dug the hell out of New Mutants #5. I was really on the fence about the opening story line, but this is the issue that won me over. The characters seemed like the characters I grew up with. The relationships were there, and it was a nice wrap up to the arc. I loved seeing Warlock again. The art was incredibly stylized, but it was a nice fit. It was also good to see the team interacting with the rest of the X-universe.

uncanny x-men- just arrived in the mail today. a slow issue, but this title was in need of a deep breath after the last couple arcs. the last page had me really wanting more. it was interesting to see scott worn so thin, after pulling off his monumental coup now doubt is sinking in, with emma (his emotional support) left cold and distant to him, he starts to sink even faster. charles being shot down by scott really showed how far their relationship and scotts status has changed in the last few years. "you had a dream, i have a plan" was a great line.

Secret Warriors is probably Marvel's second best book right now, right behind Fantastic Four. Hickman is quickly becoming one of the top guys there.

I only bought ASM #607 this week and it was only OK given that I was looking forward to Black Cat's return as handled by Joe Kelly. Agreed with previous posters that the forced sex has been "icky" but I did appreciate Peter's interior monologue in the hotel. Diablo looked and felt out of place.
In exchange I want to endorse two other comics I read this week. These books are the reason I read comics:
I Kill Giants by the aforementioned Joe Kelly and with JM Ken Niimura on art.
I'm a late-comer to reading this and I want to spread the word to the uninitiated. This is a powerful and moving story that deepens the further you go. Both the story and the art come off as "light" at first but that betrays how seriously complex they are. It's a thrill to see how both creators make something so considerate seem spontaneous. The result is a genuinely unique voice and artistic statement.
Tim Hamilton's "Adventures of the Floating Elephant" on http://act-i-vate.com/
Tim just released that "Farenheit 451" adaptation and his Graphic Novel version of "Treasure Island" is a gritty, expressionistic, fright. Of all the cartoonists today, he is the one I can most easily point to in his mastery of the visual language of comics perfected by guys like Caniff and Toth. He just gets it and you want to immerse yourself in his panels as abstract works of art in addition to how well they serve the story.
"Adventures of the Floating Elephant" is his weekly webcomic. A story of his own telling that clearly has years of planning behind it. Like IKG it introduces you to a potent myth through the front door of suburban America. I had no idea where this was going and I can say that Tim created a new, rich, mythology out of an already convincing and visceral family drama.
Good comics to be had.

HULK- god I love this book, lots of fighting between random characters. And Crimson Dynamo punks archangel, which is pretty damn funny. oh, and Red She-Hulk is HAWT.
Green Lantern- uh... wow, people get fucked; Indigo-1 has history with Abin Sur (who doesn't?), the Evil Barney the Dinosaur gets loose... and Sinestro pulls a Mortal Kombat worthy FATALITY move on Mongul.
ASM- glad black Cat's back. really, not a GREAT arc, but I love the dynamic between the two characters, and I love how McKone drew her.
The Hood- we were explained why his girlfriend and kid haven't been mentioned in NA... I guess that's it. I dunno, the story and art were good, but maybe I'm hooded out?
Punisher Annual- now this was great. Funny story, Hot chicks with huge...Tracks of land, Spidey being a cold blooded killer and then a love machine, it's a great Punisher story. although not enough people get shot in the face.
Thunderbolts- I said so many times 'don't let 'em die!'. and They didn't die, so it was good. Headsman, Ghost, and Paladin earned my respect this ish when they had a crisis of conscience and did the right thing, and the shocker at the end of the book should lead to some cool things in the future.

agreed. the fill in art was very jarring. there are artists out there that can do a better job of making their fill in art look more similar to the regular artists than that.
i think it would be very tough to be a fill in artist. on one hand here is a chance to shine on a top tier book that cant be late. on the other hand you run the risk of having the fans hate you because you couldnt copy artist ____ good enough.

i picked up a few books this week, but i have to say that i'm a little shocked to see the content in Amazing Spider-Man lately. It doesn't bother me, but for a hero that is popular among the kids, you'd figure they'd tone it down a bit. Yes, I know that there is Marvel Adventures, but as a kid, I would have asked my parents for the main title, and they would have said yes.
Additionally, it doesn't appear to me that Peter is having safe sex, as both of his bedroom romps have been rather spontaneous. Is that any kind of model for the youth of the world to follow? Sure, people need to be able to separate fact from fiction, but we can't always rely on that..
I know that Marvel puts a rating on their comics, but where do people find information about those ratings before they buy the comic? It isn't listed anywhere in the comic store. The people who work at the comic store don't know. "Rated A" could mean that it's for "a"nyone (or it could also mean "a"dults).
All in all, I enjoyed the comic. Black Cat/Felicia was a favourite of mine, and hopefully she'll be around in the title for a bit.

How is the Fables HC put together? Is it nice, are the pages it's printed on better than the regular Trade stock? What volumes does it cover, and ultimately is it worth the price?
