What If? Astonishing X-Men" - When Joss Whedon & John Cassaday started their seminal run, the promos hinted that a dead character was going to return. Most zeroed in on The Phoenix rather than Colossus. So the first story asks, what if it Jean Grey were resurrected by Ord instead of Colossus? All the events that were supposed to follow are touched upon, especially the one manipulating everything.

The second story concentrates on the pivotal moment when Wolverine and the X-Men successfully destroy the Command Core of the Danger Room, severing its comm-link and preventing Danger from using the Blackbird against them. When this happens, her signal is broadcast and intercepted by Ultron during his altercation with the Runaways. Ultron abandons his plans to follow a new one: make Danger his bride - and no X-Man will stand in his way.

WHAT IF? ASTONISHING X-MEN-Lastly, the most well-known mutants on the planet and one of their most popular titles win their own pair of possibilities. Writer Jim McCann explores, "What If Jean Grey Had Returned from the Dead?"

"For me, the story divergence had a personal meaning because just before that issue came out, I was part of the marketing team that sent out the hoax page that revealed Jean would be back in [ASTONISHING X-MEN #4," the writer notes. "Everyone knew someone was coming back, and at the end of issue #3, even Cyclops thought it was Jean who was being tested on. It's kind of neat to be the one to tell the story of 'What If' something I helped do really came true? And of course, the most important thing for a WHAT IF? is to try and tell the best story you can."

The art is by David Yardin & the cover by J. Scott Campbell. Interiors and cover are being painted by Kai Spannuth (a friend of Marko Djurdjevic). We're holding those back for a few weeks until there's a nice chunk to show, but I am REALLY excited about this.

It's definitely one of the best X-Men runs ever. Whedon did an amazing job writing it and Cassaday proved everyone that he is one of the greatest artists .
