The Boston Comic Con is excited to announce its biggest guest list ever for its upcoming show on October 24-25, 2009. These comic book star creators are coming to New England’s largest comic convention to meet their fans and sign autographs.

The Boston Comic Con is very happy to welcome TIM SALE (http://www.timsale1.com/) - an Eisner award winning comic book artist well known for his "storytelling" collaboration with writer Jeph Loeb on numerous single issue comics and longer graphic novels featuring BATMAN, SUPERMAN, GRENDEL, DAREDEVIL, CATWOMAN and HULK. His work features dramatic use of light and shadow and he challenged the traditional conceptions of BATMAN and SUPERMAN - and their villainous adversaries - in the groundbreaking works BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN and SUPERMAN FOR ALL SEASONS. Tim has earned a wide following for his sometime unique take on superheroes. Tim will be appearing both days, so come on down and say hi!

BCC welcomes BILL SIENKIEWICZ (http://www.billsienkiewiczart.com/) to BOSTON - Emmy nominated and Eisner award winning artist - best known for revamping the style of comic and graphic novel illustration from 1980 onward, most notably with MARVEL comics, ELEKTRA ASSASSIN, MOON KNIGHT, NEW MUTANTS and his acclaimed graphic novel STRAY TOASTERS. A classically trained painter, Bill's renderings incorporate abstract and expressionist influences and any combination of oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, mixed-media collage and mimeograph; previously unheard of in comics. Sienkiewicz won a 1987 KIRBY award for best artist for ELEKTRA ASSASSIN and a 2004 EISNER award for best anthology for his role in SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS written by Neil Gaiman. Stop by and see why his artwork has earned him an international reputation and cult status across media industries.

Living legend HERB TRIMPE (http://www.herbtrimpe.com/) comes to Boston Comic Con - In the 1960s, during the period known as the Silver Age of Comics, Trimpe was assigned to what became his signature character, the INCREDIBLE HULK - he went on to draw the character for a virtually unbroken run of over eight years. As a MARVEL COMICS mainstay, Herb drew nearly every starring character along with THE TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE and SHOGUN WARRIORS. He's most famously credited with the co-creation of the Marvel comic character "WOLVERINE" who later became a breakout star of the X-MEN. Stop by and meet this comic legend appearing both days at the show.

DAVID MACK (http://www.davidmack.net/) is a creative dynamo in the comics industry, unleashing ground breaking work on books such as DAREDEVIL and his creator owned KABUKI -With over 12 years spent professionally in the comics industry and more graphic novels than you can count, Mack has grown a large fan base and gained acclaim from all over the world. In addition to his comic work David Mack has also written the treatment for a "KABUKI" film - BCC welcomes this innovative talent.

KHOI PHAM (http://www.khoipham.com/), one of MARVEL COMICS' finest artists; a superstar who is considered to be one of Marvel's "YOUNG GUNS" From X-FACTOR to the INCREDIBLE HERCULES to his whirlwind run on the Secret Invasion flashback chapters of MIGHTY AVENGERS - it is hard to believe that Khoi has had no formal training. Come meet this artist whose career in the comic field may have come quick, but by no means will be a short one. Welcome to Boston, Khoi!

Boston Comic Con welcomes CLIFF CHIANG (http://www.cliffchiang.com/) to our growing list of talented artists. A Harvard graduate, Cliff was formerly an assistant editor at DC COMICS before he made the leap to freelance illustrator. In his time as an artist, he has drawn such diverse characters as BATMAN, THE SPECTRE, RED SONJA, GRENDEL, SWAMP THING and WONDER WOMAN. Cliff most recently illustrated the GREEN ARROW / BLACK CANARY series for DC COMICS and is currently working on a graphic adaptation of Neil Young’s GREENDALE. A fan favorite, he will be appearing both days!

BCC welcomes comic artist and designer GEOF DARROW (http://www.geofdarrow.net/)! Winner of three EISNER awards, his first which he shared with Frank Miller for HARD BOILED, his second in 1996 for BIG GUY & RUSTY THE BOY ROBOT and his most recent (2006) for his self - penned series SHAOLIN COWBOY, featuring Geof’s trademark ultra-violence, irony and meticulous level of detail. Darrow was also credited as 'Conceptual Designer' on all three MATRIX movies showcasing his visual style. A true talent not to be missed.

STEPHANE ROUX (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=9211) is a French comic book artist who is known mostly for his cover work for MARVEL, DC and SEMIC comics. He has worked on such titles as WITCHBLADE: BLOODOATH as well as SIBILA and STRANGERS in the SEMIC pocket publications-His most recent works have included cover artist on BIRDS OF PREY, and COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS for DC comics. Let’s show this continent hopper what a real AMERICAN comic show is like!

MIKE McKONE (http://www.lambiek.net/artists/m/mckone_mike.htm) has penciled many titles including JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL for DC COMICS and PUNISHER WAR ZONE for MARVEL COMICS. However it was his work of Marvel's EXILES which brought him instant attention, and led him to work on DC's TEEN TITANS and Marvel's FANTASTIC FOUR. His most recent credits include AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and covers for DEADPOOL: SUICIDE KINGS and PUNISHER.

JIM CALAFIORE (http://www.jimcalafiore.com/index2.asp) gained notoriety with Valiant's X-O: MAN-O-WAR and ARMORIES. Following his time with Valiant, Calafiore moved over to MARVEL taking his "metallic" style to IRON MAN. After a long stint on DC's AQUAMAN with writer Peter David, he returned to the "House of Ideas" as the co-penciller on the reality hopping series EXILES. This DC exclusive artist is currently illustrating the darker side of Gotham City and BATMAN'S rouges in the GOTHAM UNDERGROUND mini series.

ERIC CANETE (http://kahnehteh.blogspot.com/) got his professional start working in animation when he was just a 17-year old kid - not even out of high school yet! Eric has done storyboards, backgrounds and designs for shows like JUSTICE LEAGUE, TEEN TITANS, THE BATMAN, and LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES. His full time job is with CARTOON NETWORK on the re-launched BEN 10. Along with his animation work he continues with his first love - COMICS! Check out his IRON MAN: ENTER THE MANDARIN series for Marvel with those funky art deco covers and his run on the END LEAGUE from Dark Horse comics. We went kayaking. It was high comedy.

And I tried to take a swim, but the feel of the scummy vegetation I was standing/walking on completely freaked me out.

hubby was there, too. he said that I acted like more of a girl than Hannah.

Today the Boston Comic Con is happy to announce that WALT & LOUISE SIMONSON are joining us at the Back Bay Events Center on October 24-25, 2009! Walt is no stranger to New England having studied geology at Amherst College and then transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design where he created the comic Star Slammers as his senior thesis. Walt is best known for his groundbreaking work on The Mighty Thor where he created the alien warrior Beta Ray Bill. His artwork has also graced the pages of Star Wars, Fantastic Four, Detective Comics, and X-Factor which he co-created with Louise. Walt is well-renowned for his writing and participated in this summer’s Wednesday Comics project in which he penned the Catwoman strip.

Louise “Weezie” Simonson began her career in comics on the editorial side at Warren Publishing and later Marvel where she made the switch to writing full-time. She has scripted many titles including New Mutants, Superman: Man of Steel, and Magnus Robot Fighter, and co-created popular characters like Steel, Cable, and Apocalypse. Louise also has to her credit the creation of the superhero teams Power Pack with artist June Brigman and X-Factor with her husband Walt.

Boston Comic Con is very proud to bring these icons of the comic book world to meet their New England fans. Tell your friends!!

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control Bill Sienkiewicz has had to postpone his appearance until the next Boston Comic Con.

One of the artists that will be there in the Artist's Alley (I'm assuming they call it that there, I've never been) is Juli Mayers.

She worked on Batman Beyond and Justice League Unlimited.

She did an appearance at the New Bedford, MA location of New England Comics this past Wednesday. I took the time off work and went up.

Great to talk to her, she's a true geek girl as well as industry pro.

I bought her Black Canary pic that she had done. I think it is pretty darn cool looking. It's the original not a print of it.

Secret Asian Man Original Art Available for the First Time at Boston Comic Con

Tak Toyoshima, creator of Secret Asian Man, announced on his website (http://www.secretasianman.com/home.htm) that he is selling his original for the first time ever at Boston Comic Con:

After a loooong time not doing comic shows (besides the Asian American Comic Con a couple months back) I'll be at the Boston Comic Con (http://www.bostoncomiccon.com/) on October 24-25. The folks that throw this show have really stepped up the talent that they bring. The guest list includes: Geof Darrow, Tim Sale, Walt Simonson, Herb Trimpe, Khoi Pham, Cliff Chiang, and David Mack just to name a few. I may end up spending more time on line meeting some of these artists than at my table!

I'm also going to finally start selling off original Secret Asian Man strip artwork, dailies and Sundays, at the show. If you are in the New England area, swing by and meet a bunch of high caliber talent. If you live in Boston, you have no excuse. If you've never been to a comic show, this a a great one to start with.

Managed to stop by the show for a bit today and picked up a Watchmen omnibus for 40$, but it's pretty crowded and the main show room is really stuffy. I'm on my way to see "A Serious Man" but if anyone wants to get a drinkup going just post it here. I can make it after the movie.

Such an awesome time. The place was busy, but there were a lot of deals. Was able to meet Walter Simonson, such a class act and an awesome person. Talked about how is created his signature to showing a sneak peak of a new project, and everything in between. Also I was able to get a sketch from him!!!!! Not only was this con packed with awesome guests, but next April is CRAZY!!!!! I wish they had more Cons in Boston or southeastern Mass.

Can anyone tell me if Sale is doing quick sketches? I was considering going, but am pretty exhausted today, and that would be the only thing that would get me over there, the chance of grabbing a sketch in my hardcover of Dark Victory.

I don't believe he was. He had an 8 person sign up sheet in the beginning of the day each day and was charging 150 for them.

The weekend was pretty great. I talked with David Mack for a bit and he is the most amazing humble man ever. It was such a pleasure and he was the highlight of the event for me.
He also did a beautiful quick headshot of Bullseye for me. Pics to come...

I got to see David Mack today.

David, thank you so much for your awesomeness. And I love the Spider-Man print I bought. Hope i didn't offend you with my Kabuki/Planet of the Apes comment, but I think you got what I meant.

My friend was blown away by his first con experience. Sorry for his drunkeness, we had just had many mimosas at brunch. Sorry I didn't get to see you Saturday, or arrange a meet up/drink up. It was just a strange weekend all around.

Ethan Van Sciver is supposed to be coming in January, and I talk to him a lot on the board, so looking forward to that.

OK, You and Oeming have been to Boston many times. What the hell do I have to do to get Bendis in Beantown? I've been a member of his fucking board for 7 years, and have yet to meet the fucker.

Hope you enjoyed beantown. Next time, maybe we can arrange something social. Take care, glad to see you, and I LOVE SHY CREATURES!!!

Oh, David, I meant to ask you, but I wanted to get my drunk friend out of there before he opened his mouth any more ( ) but I was wondering if you ever have the cover to Alias #28 available for sale as a print.

If so, I would love one. If not, that's cool too.

But I always loved the cover, and all it symbolizes.

Take care, man.

Tim will typically do really fast pen head sketches in hardcovers and sometimes trades if asked.

Not quite like the $150 ones, of course...

Really disappointed that I had to pass on this show. Been wanting some Walt Simonson love for my sketchbook and comics for about 10 years now. He's one of a small handful of reasons that I read comics. But I had to pass to ensure my ability to go in Spril for Jim Lee. There is no way on Heaven or Earth that I will miss that.

On the bright side, a friend went and got me a Simonson Thor sketch. :)
