View Full Version : So, this Erin Andrews video...

Brad N.

...anyone else seen it?!? Obviously I won't post links or whatever, and the usual suspects don't have it due to threats from ESPN/Disney's attorneys but it's out there. Just be careful if you ARE searching for it as apparently virus makers have capitalized on the hubbub.

So anyway, I created this thread for a reason. Supposedly the video is real (despite her publicist initially saying it was fake) and I'm inclined to believe it based on the HUGE amount of legal action already taken by ESPN. What the video shows is a peephole view of Erin Andrews naked in her hotel room doing her hair, changing clothes, basically getting ready for work or whatever. Most likely filmed in secret by a hotel employee. Now, my real question is this - do you care how this video was obtained?

I realize it was probably taken illegally but I don't see that much of a difference between this and say the video of Janet Jackson nude sunbathing in her backyard. Then you have the Pam and Tommy tape that half of the country saw even though it was supposedly stolen from their house. I guess maybe this is a little less ethical IMO, but now that it's out there I'll fully admit I found it and watched it. :surrend:

I think the big difference here is that at least Pam and Tommy knew they were making a video, even if they didn't intend it to be public.

If I made a sex tape with my girlfriend and it leaked, I would be pissed, but I would also largely blame myself for being stupid enough not to delete it.

If someone hides a camera in my room and records me walking around naked or worse, I'm going to feel pretty violated and pissed off.

It's kind of creepy to watch just because the camera moves. Someone was moving it to keep her in frame, which feels wrong.

Yes, I care. The Pam/Tommy tape was created with their consent. This (although I haven't seen it, and according to how you say it was most likely created,) is invasion of privacy of the highest order.

Whoever took it should be in jail for a nice long while.

I agree that it is her simply based on the heavy amount of legal action. Which is weird, because if the lawyers hadn't gone crazy everyone would have assumed it was a fake- you can't tell who the woman is, other than she's a blonde with a fantastic body.

I think it is different from the Janet Jackson thing in that you assume a greater right to privacy when you are in a hotel room and different from the Pam Anderson thing in that at least that film was made (and eventually distributed) with her consent.

It's okay. I don't watch ESPN, so I don't really have much of a connection. I'd probably like the video better if it was someone I watched.

The video is grainy. Things look pretty much how you'd imagine. But somehow it's more satisfying to see it, even in a poor quality video, than just imagine it. Kind of like how chewing food and spitting it out is a million times less satisfying than chewing and then swallowing food.

How did they even take this video? What hotel doors have keyholes?

I agree, but again how about the Janet Jackson video or any number of other paparazzi pics and videos that have surfaced over the years of celebrities caught unaware that have become a part of pop culture?

Maybe this one is different in that for the first and only time that I can think of a celebrity was filmed on a hidden camera in a hotel room they assumed was completely private...although one could argue Janet probably figured her backyard was private too.

Anyway, I'm not defending the video or the douchebag who did this. I agree that if he is caught he should be prosecuted to the fullest.

The topless sunbathers and Pam/Tommy analogies aren't really valid.

If you're walking around your hotel room with the doors and blinds closed, you have a reasonable expectation of privacy. If you're outdoors sunbathing topless, well... you're not really in private anymore if you can be seen from a public area. And the Pam/Tommy tape doesn't really work since, as has been noted, it was made with their consent. In that case, the theft and release of the tape without their permission was the crime (which they subsequently decided to capitalize on and profit from), not the creation of the tape itself.

A better analogy is women who are unaware that they're being taped in a dressing room or a public bathroom.

In short, the dude who did this should get crotch-punted by the legal system.

No, I think even the most twisted among us can agree that invasion of privacy is wrong. I mean, I might fuck goats on the weekends but even I can agree to that. My question for my fellow obviously perverted, sick, and maybe criminal boarders was if it mattered to them how the video was taken on whether or not they would or have watched it. No one here is the one who made the video (that I'm aware of) so the attitude is a little unnecessary.

Ok, let's be reasonable here. Let's say I watch the video. I didn't pay to see it. I got it off the internet. Yes, it's certainly an invasion of her privacy. But beyond having me see her blurry boobs, no other damage is done. It doesn't encourage future privacy invasions with peephole cameras. The damage to her has already been done.

Now, going on here and talking about how great the video is, that probably does some damage. It encourages other people to seek it out and encourages future peephole cameramen to try and get new footage of new blurry boobs.

As far as I know, it's not possible.

Now, it's possible to link to some malware and say it's the video. Or to put an exe file up and say it's the viewer and has to be installed.

Most of the celeb cases this has been compared to (here and elsewhere online) aren't in the same ballpark. Celebs who have their "private" sextapes "stolen" and then sold with them getting a cut of the profits does not compare with someone who actually has their privacy invaded without their knowledge or consent.

I haven't seen the tape and considering the story behind it don't want to. I don't think much of her reporting, but I feel bad for her having to deal with this mess. I hope they catch who did it and she sues everyone involved into bankruptcy.

Supremely surprised that it took someone this long to say some bullshit like this.

I think someone else said that they thought it was obviously done as a way of viral marketing Erin Andrews and the ESPN brand, which doesn't even make much sense as she's basically on break until the college football season starts up in September.

Will I seek it out? No. It sounds like the video was taken without her knowledge. I don't want to victimize her any more.

We shall see. I'm sure there is more to come on this. But there is an unbelievable amount of posing and cheating toward the camera going on in this thing.

How so?

Well, it's all speculative at this point, bullshit or not. But I don't think it's that much of a stretch. It's already being rumored the videos were possibly taped at multiple locations, and the culprit may have been someone on the ESPN crew.

And let's be honest, there is enough precedent of these situations that one could write a script on the public spin...

1) Shock and outrage.
2) Threat of criminal prosecution and lawsuits.
3) Paycheck.

Incorrect.

The guy who posted the video of Erin Andrews posted five or six voyeur videos of naked women in a hotel room. Four or five of the videos were four or five different women in what looked like rooms in the same hotel. The other couple of videos looked like a different hotel.

There was only one video of Erin Andrews that runs about five minutes with no edits and no cuts.

That must be a rumor started by people who haven't seen it.

She had no idea this was being taken. It's silly to suggest otherwise.

I stand by that speculation. She very much looks, to me, to be aware of the camera.

Regarding the rumors of ESPN employee involvement, and multiple shot locations, here is more speculation from another dubious information source, the NY Post...

Well, the quote from your linked article is:

But in a sinister twist, there are signs the Peeping Tom may be connected with the coverage of athletic events, or had access to the room, a source said.

"You cannot just walk up to a hotel peephole and photograph through it," said a law-enforcement expert familiar with the technology.

The source said it's possible to get such shots only if the peephole mechanism were reversed -- or if someone got into the room to rig it from the inside.

Andrews apparently feared something creepy might happen to her one day. Sports blogger Neil Best said, "She knew the fine line she was walking, and told me at Citi Field earlier this year of her concern over some of the darker corners of her fan base."

TMZ.com reported there had been six clips found -- four were shot in one hotel and two in another.

Asked if cops are grilling ESPN employees, network spokesman Josh Krulewitz said, "In conjunction with Erin's attorney and appropriate authorities, we are exploring all possibilities."

Sounds to me like they are saying the creep could work for ESPN (which is true), not that it is a viral marketing thing, and that it was still done without her knowledge.

It also could have been a hotel employee.

Or, you know...the guy could work for the hotel, which would explain why he had videos posted of other naked women in hotel rooms. Unless you think somebody working for ESPN is also filming video of women who don't have any affiliation with ESPN or the world of sports.

I think your speculating too much.

As someone who has video taped over 100 people getting sometimes up to 8 hours of uninterrupted video, sometimes it can psych you out because you think someone is aware your video taping them, when they aren't. I don't know how many times I have people staring directly into the camera and acting like they were aware and then they be totally oblivious.

Trust me, I know when someone is aware of being video taped or watched. It's very obvious.

Also, I have yet to see the video and I refuse to watch it because it's just not right. But I feel my experience lets me make a fair judgement on this.
