It's a funnily-sized book with surprisingly great paper and printing for only $2.99, so it should just pop right off the shelf if you look for it. It's great writing and stunning art.

This was a fun time, guys. Great to meet everyone. Last night was a blast. Especially a trip to meet Bendis, Cth and Ivan after 9 years on the board. I love DragonCon, but it's more freakshow than con, and not many boarders ever seem to make it. This was a very different experience.

I got Vol. 1 of JMS's Thor, got 24/7 vol. 1 from Ivan, Shy Creatures from Mack for my friends' daughter and The Alchemy for me, and got Fraction to give Susan a pretty entertaining sales pitch for Casanova. (she's giving it a try. Also got Cross Bronx. Maybe those will help convince her to post here) I'm exhausted and stuck in the airport for 5 hours and I still think it was worth it. :)

1. The con program. I carried it all day and cracked it open maybe twice.

2. My MapQuest directions based on the address on the Heroescon website. They led me instead right to their store.

3. The directions they wrote for me to get to the con.

4. My list of items I found at booths to return and buy later. It's a gamble. The items might not be there. So I wrote down the other booths where those same items are. There's two reasons for this: a) I might find it cheaper at another booth; and b) If I buy the item later, that's less time I'm carrying it around. And that leads me to my epiphany. 5. Creative Loafing Charlotte had the con as its cover story.

6. I bought a bundle of three minicomics from the Center for Comic Studies booth. I was directed there by my publisher J. Chris Campbell of Wide Awake Press. The CCS booth was often obscured by the lines to see Jeff Smith. He never had a small line.

7. A set of Japanese monster postcards for a guy whose work appeared with mine in in the Athens Fluke con anthology.

8. A card for Tariq Hassan one of the Revolver Studios artists. His acrylic stuff looks like watercolors, and I don't know how he mangaes that.

9. My scrawled-while-driving directions for getting home. It's hard to find 85 South and 74 West without road signs.

10. CCS brochures for their cartoon programs.

11. The animated Bizarro figure I've wanted for two years.

12. Viking No. 1 sold to some of us as Kraken's buddy Susan was given sales pitches by creators. This was right after Fraction gave her the big pitch to buy Cassanova. That began by me trying to get his attention. Susan picked up the Cassanova hardcover. I wanted to get Fraction's attention.
ME: You'll love it. I only sucks a little.
FRACTION: IT ONLY SUCKS A LITTLE?!
ME: Joke, joke.
And then I waxed his car about Uncanny.

13. Bossk and IG-88 bounty hunter figures. The first booth has Bossk for $12. The second had him for $5. It pays to window shop.

14. A promo card for Capes and Babes, a webcomic. It was handed to me by the creator while I waited to talk to John Anderson who co-colored ...

15. this issue of E-Man. I know John from another forum.

16. A promo card and lottery ticket for a free trade drawing by Ultimate Comics. The promo girl caught a group of us standing near the Adhouse Books booth, and we all signed up. None of us won. I knew exactly where the booth was becuase I had jotted down their location on my shopping list. I told the girl they were right under the Aisle 300 sign, and she gasped. She finally had an easy way to direct people there.

17. I bought David Mack's kids book, and he explained how it began as a book inside Kabuki. I confessed I didn't know the comic, and he signed and handed me a stack of Kabuki issues. Free. The man knows how to win over fans.

18. The Wonder Girl and Starfire min-statues I wanted for a while. This was a good con for getting long-sought knickknacks.

19. A copy of Fell volume 1 and the two Justice trades. These were bought at one of the many booths offering books for either 50% off or buy one, get one free. This was the show for trades.

20. "I Will Feast on Your Whore Heart," a string-bound mini that caught my eye.

21. Two minis by Josh Latta, another Wide Awake artist.

22. Two little toys made by another Wide Awake guy.

23. The card handed our by the Imaginism people.

24. The card for Girls with Slingshots, a webcomic by Danielle Corsetto whose portfolio was really good. We also chatted in the Starbucks line, and I sold her on their shaken iced tea lemonade. I think we were sparking a little.

Meeting the board folks was my main reason for going, and I had a fantastic time. The dinner was downright perfect, and I hated to go so soon. I thank everyone for being friendly.

I missed the Board Photo by just a few minutes because Fuel took about 27 minutes to run a cheese pizza through. Not worries because I was with my travel companions and it tasted great as usual. This was one of the best cons I can remember for any number of reasons. Awesome time!

here's my quick bendis story . . . the lines for bendis were right next to our booth. most of the weekend they were pretty lengthy . . . but on sunday they were pretty tame. . . anyway, i had just looked through a cheap box of 4 dollar trades and there was a copy of fortune and glory. i bought it, four bucks. when i got back to the booth, my pal rich says, "bendis just gave me a cookie . . ." the line was short so i went over . . . waited a minute and i ask bendis if he could sign the book . . . he points down, "already did . . ." i bought a signed fortune and glory . . .

anyway . . .

i still owe cth and kraken a beer . . . they didn't stop by to collect . . . .

My BENDIS story..

I waited in line Friday, only to find out he wouldn't be there until after the 1pm panel. I had no issue, but apparently some others did :D We overslept Saturday and passed on the line, opting for Sunday. Thought Sunday would have been a repeat of Friday briefly when his wake up call didn't go through.

It was annoying to hear a grumpy fan whine, who thankfully left before he showed up. Fraction took control and issued numbers to everyone in line for later reassembling.

Long story short, I brought an old page of art from TORSO I won a few years back on the board, knowing he'd do a double take and wonder how I had a copy :D The look on his face was worth it.

Anyways, sorry I missed you.. I tried to remember where everybody was. I still missed a lot of people (I tried stopping by Rantz's table all day Saturday and he was gone and I couldn't make the Sunday panel).

If it's an consolation, Gregory had to twist my arm to buy me a beer (I don't drink beer, so he got my sake instead at the restaurant which I shared with everybody)
