View Full Version : I think I have ghosts in my closet

Or it's some sort of portal. Most of the time when I leave my closet door open, I'll wake up in the middle of the night and see some shit.

For instance. One time I woke up and to the right of my bed in front of my closet I thought I saw a large figure with a tiny white head. I blinked a few times and it was still there, so I jumped out of bed and ran to it to attack it (I dunno why) and up until the point where I ran THROUGH it, it was still there. I crashed into the closet and knocked it off the rail.

Thing is, my roomate is a SUPER light sleeper. I go out of my room and open his door to appologize, and he was STILL SLEEPING.

Another time I wake up and see what looks like a chick in the closet and I think "Ok John, calm down, it aint there...it ain't there..." and I get up and walk closer and sure enough it changes from a woman to a coat hanger. I breath a sigh of relief, look to my left, and there's a figure standing there and i scream!

FUCKING GHOSTS JUKED ME!!!!!

Anyone else have an Ecto containment unit in their closet?

Meanwhile, could it be your imagination is amplifying nothing more than a rat or two that poke their heads out from inside the closet?

I've had a few similar experiences at different homes that I've lived in. My favorite is at the place I currently live there is a ghost cat that we see regularly, we do have a cat, but she'll either be laying on top of us or in plain eyesight and we'll catch what looks like a shadowy cat figure walking around the house.

The creepiest experience I've had with it is the night I was going to the bathroom before bed, it was dark and there are stairs next to our bathroom, I saw what I thought was my cat sitting on the steps and reached down to pet her and my hand went through the cat and it just suddenly wasn't there.

Fuck, that's creepy.

The other really creepy thing that's happened in this house happened on a night some buddies and I were playing D&D. After the game was over I broke out a tarot deck I'd bought for the game as a prop and we actually started doing some tarot readings. While in the middle of one for a buddy the ceiling fan turned itself on at random at the highest possible setting. I got up and went over and hit the switch and it kept going at full force for another 5 minutes then just came to a dead stop, didn't slowly stop but just went from full force to dead still within a few seconds.

After that the fan didn't work at all until we finally switched he dining room and living room around between rooms, right after we'd moved everything i hit the switch to turn on the light and the ceiling fan came on again at a normal pace and worked from then on. The current living room (then dining room) happens to be the same room the stairway is in.

i close my closet, voila, suddenly no ghosts.

BUT one time i was walking by the bathroom door that's in my room in a daze (i got up to get some water) and standing in the doorway all hazy like could only be described as a mexican midget of some sort. so i started to swat at it really hard and my hand went through the first time then it was gone but i kept swatting...which was basically me just slamming my hand into the bathroom door. hurt like hell.

all the shit i see is essentially like seeing something very hazy as you just wake up. scares the shit out of me.

the other night i left my closet door open (it's the sliding kind) and i had a fucked up dream. couldn't help it, got home late and just crashed on the bed and slept in my clothes.

I dunno: I can handle vermin. The paranormal do not get killed by poison pellets, felines or an extermination service (well, maybe if you put up wards).

You should do that: Cover the mirrors up with a heavy fabric, hang an apotropaic talisman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apotropaic_magic) or a dreamcatcher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcatcher_(Native_American)) around the house, see what happens.

Or you could do what Thom Yorke did and trap the ghost in plaster somehow (http://www.mtv.com/bands/archive/r/radiohead00/index3.jhtml)

My dad thought the house we lived in in Anaheim, California was haunted. The record player would turn on with nobody around, and my dad said he saw somebody standing right in front of him when he was sitting on the couch in the living room one time. The house was really close to Disneyland, so at night, my parents would go out when I was asleep, and watch the fireworks. One night, I remember waking up, going into their room and seeing somebody sitting in the corner of the bedroom. I knew it wasn't one of them so I ran outside screaming my head off. Now, I was a little kid just waking up from sleeping, so it could have been anything, but who knows?

You're having hypnopompic hallucinations. There's a reason you're seeing them as you wake up: your brain is still dreaming even though you're awake. It used to happen to me too. I wouldn't fight them, though. I would just point and scream.

when i was 16 or 17, i was in my room on my laptop and it was pretty late at night. i was talking to my friend on aim and i saw something move out of the corner of my eye. i looked over at my sliding closet door and it was pushed out, like, as if someone were pushing the door outward from the bottom, since the only track for it was on the top of the door.

i told her that my closet door just opened and then went to tell my mom, but her bedroom door was shut. i knocked and entered and i must have looked a little freaked out because she just stated (not really asked) "What." i said "my closet door just opened by itself." she went "oh my god GET OUT!" and shut the door. not because she didn't believe me, but because i've always had this thing with ghosts and it totally freaks her out.

so i was left to sloooooooowly make my way back into my bedroom, where the closet door was still open, sloooooooooowly push the door back down into place and then sit very awkwardly on my bed scared to death. =(

my mommy wouldn't even give me a hug or anything. *sob*

You may be sleep-walking or are having waking dreams (my mom used to have them after suffering a stroke).

You need glasses.

You need to lay off the drugs.

Yeah. I don't trust any ghost story that starts out "I woke up" or "I was just falling asleep when.." because it's pretty easy to hallucinate in that state.

I have a couple that happened to me but my favorite ghost stories come from the mothers of my Italian friends where I grew up in Jersey.

One woman swore that as a child she would see the same scene play out in her bedroom night after night in which a ghost man with an axe would come through her window and chase a ghost woman around the room.

But one family actually moved out of their home because of a ghost.

They had been hearing voices and feeling cold spots in the house. One day, my friend (as an infant) and his older sister were down for a nap in the upstairs bedroom. His mom was folding clothes downstairs and heard her daughter call "Mommy there's a man in the house."

With that, she sprung to the staircase and saw her daughter frightened at the top of the landing. A moment later, she realized that she was looking through a man who then spun around and gave her the nastiest look.

She grabbed her kids from the house and they moved out soon after.

Oooh I love ghost stories. *clicks on a flashlight*

When I was a little girl, I had imaginary friends, mostly dinosaurs, (because let's face it, everyone wants to be friends with a polka-dotted Tyrannasauras Rex) but one was a preteen boy. I LOVED hiding when I was 4, so I would spend houuurs in my little closet hiding with my imaginary friends. I'd make up stories and games and what not. Well one day, my friend was telling me the story of how he died. And he told me he wanted to show me how he died. So I closed my eyes and I drew all over the inside of my white closet in the dark. Turns out he was run over by a train that once ran close to my house. Needless to say my mother flipped out when I told her what the boy had told me. He also thought I was his mother in a past life. But that's an entirely different story.

Ghost or not, I have no idea. I had a very active imagination as a kid, but crazy things tend to happen to me. OoooOOooOOOOOooOOoooOOoh spooky!

Ok, this one is extremely personal to my family.

My aunt, who I am very close with, lost an infant to SIDS.

Soon after, my cousin, who is my age and a toddler at the time, claims to have seen her sister and an older man in her room. She later identified the man in a photo and it was a grandfather who had passed before she was born.

The death of her daughter impacted my Aunt greatly and she has always felt her presence.

One Christmas not too long ago she was having second thoughts about hanging an ornament on the tree in honor of her. She asked aloud "What do you think, should I put this on the tree?"

She has touch lamps and upon asking the question one lamp responded by turning brighter, brighter, off, on.

My aunt went upstairs and had my uncle hold the ornament and the light there did the same thing.

Here's where it gets really freaky. My aunt was visiting with friends and one of them was close with a psychic. Without ever telling any details to the woman, she did a reading and offered the following information:

- someone close to you had a fall that will affect her later in life (my mom slipped down the stairs that Xmas)
- your daughter is your youngest daughter's guardian angel. she says that your other daughter is a little heavy on the gas pedal but that she'll look after her
- she then described my cousin as an olive-skinned teenager with long features (which is the age she would have been had she survived)

and then she said

- she wants me to tell you that she like what you did with the ornament.

The hair on the back of my neck is standing up as I type.

In general, this and other ghost stories, raise so many questions for me that I understand why we tend to dismiss them as a people. Everyone has one and it would rock our world if we accepted them (even the possibility that this woman was merely reading my aunt's psyche) as true.

no one really asks ghosts real questions like "what do you do for fun when you die" and "describe in perfect detail what you see" shit like that.

the ornament part was freaky!

There are many phenomena that science can only say so much. Unless it's swamp gas. That stuff always fucks over ghosts stories.

But I digress, the human mind is very interesting, especially with circumstances that are unfamiliar with it. There are theories that indeginous people in North America just simply did not see the sail boats coming from Europe because it was so foreign to them that their brain could not fathom the existence of it. After a while, however, they could see the ships. Just some theories. I took an anthropological class on the human brain and it is crazy, man. Crazy.

But it's a comforting thought to think that loved ones can still be with us in a sense. It's also terrifying to think that people we DON'T know may be watching us all the time.

Let's hope it was a female ghost.

It was, in reality, probably hot that night so I took them off or....ya know.

While not a visual experience, there were times in my home growing up that I could not close a particular guest room door without a great deal of force...like someone was pulling on the opposite side. I remember checking the frame and numerous times to see it something was snagged. I used to get a little freaked out when I visited my parents and walk by the door. This thread is going to make me go try it next time I pop in.

no one really asks ghosts real questions like "what do you do for fun when you die" and "describe in perfect detail what you see" shit like that.

the ornament part was freaky!

As a kid, the notion of our lost loved ones looking over us made me immediately wonder if my grandfather watched me shower.

My dad just told me this story. My uncle is in town from CA, and he's a really, really nice guy, but he gets involved in weird shit. Right now he's in, what my dad says is a cult. I don't know anything about it. My dad said "So, your uncle said they had a psychic at his chu...Cult...Whatever the hell my brother is a part of, and she said he was being followed around by grampa. She also said there was somebody else with him, Joe Sr. Your brother had no idea who Joe Sr. was, until she used his nickname, Peppy. And she also named gramps brother Bob, and said that he tags along with them." I was ready to call bullshit on the whole story until he mentioned she knew Joe Sr. nickname. Not spooky, just kind of weird.

I'd like to know if this is the same group my uncle was a part of when I was a baby. They gave him a jar of jelly, and said it was from Venus. Space jelly. He was forcibly removed from that situation by my grandfather.

I work at a law office that's in a house built in 1901. Lots of history in it and apparently a lot of people died here over the years. Last weekend our cleaning guy was upstairs and heard a really loud banging downstairs (apparently like someone was pounding on the wall) and then some glass shattering. He ran downstairs and found one of the paintings in our conference room laying on the floor on the opposite side of the room from where it was hung. Dude freaked the fuck out and called my boss, almost in tears.

We do hear a lot of odd noises in the office, and sometimes things will go missing and end up in strange places. I'm cool with it, though one of my co-workers refuses to be left in this building alone.

Also: I'm convinced a part of my Dad is still roaming my Mom's house. He died a few years ago and there's been a few strange things that have happened in the house since. Last one happened a couple of months ago: My Mom was redecorating and painting her downstairs. For years all of my Dad's baseball memorabilia and Beatles posters, along with a bunch of family photos, have been all over the walls. My Mom started taking it all down so she could start painting. As soon as she took the last picture (photo of the family right before we emigrated) down, all the lights in the basement went off. Same with the TV and her stereo. Everything stayed off for about 20 seconds and then came right back on. Power didn't go out anywhere else in the house.

There are, of course, reasonable explanations for this stuff but I like to think there's a bit of my Dad hanging around looking after her.
