Anyone get the Thing vs. Hulk Punch-Out poster today? Cool little freebie at my LCS. I just wish it was bigger! I'd totally hang that up. First Marvel ad I might have to keep around. Too awesome.
Amazing Spider-Man- PICK OF THE WEEK! This arc is pretty brutal. I'm disappointed in the lack of consistent art, but this is a really dark and intriguing story. Daken and Bullseye really give Peter a rough time. I'm not sure who Checchetto is, but he has a very similar style to Jimenez. Did he do some Infinite Crisis work? Good pick for a fill-in. He nailed the Daken fight quite well. I think I like Hawkeye as the costume of a villain a lot more than as a hero. He looks excellent on that cover. I'm quite curious to see where the cliffhanger goes. 9/10
Fantastic 4- Speaking of brutal, holy hell. Hitch does this issue as only he can. The Masters really dish out some disturbing punishment. Knocked out of the park. The splash page with the shark? Wow. 9/10
Deadpool- That pretty much sums it up. The last couple issues have been a blast. I loved Deadpool's mixed up internal dialogue. Very funny stuff. 9/10
X-Factor- Just kinda chugging along. Nothing too major outside the Jamie/Layla stuff. 7/10

Holy fuck, I love Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers. Can this please be an ongoing, Marvel?
Also, I totally approve of this addition to the team. :D

Uncanny X-Men
Nice conclusion to the Sisterhood arc. Not a real spoiler, but looks like Jean Grey is still dead....for now ;)

X-Factor - waiting on my subscription. :(
Mighty Avengers - I let my sub on this lapse, so I went back for this today. The Pym versus Reed stuff was hilarious. I disagree on Slott's opinion that these are the "real" Avengers, but they are REAL entertaining.
Red Robin - Not sure I'm interested in a "gritty" Tim Drake trying to track down Bruce the whole series. And god, one of those cases where another writer gets a hold of Damien and just turns him into a one-dimensional troll.
Flash Rebirth - Poor Barry!

Flash Rebirth was cool. I feel like this whole comic can be synched up to Green Lantern Rebirth. The Black Flash is Barry's quickly tacked on Parallax, Zoom is his Sinestro, Max, Wally, Jay, and Bart are Barry's Jon, Guy, Kyle, and Kilwog, etc. Once we see what grows out of this, it'll be easier to say, but this has some big deja vu moments for me.
X-Men Forever was a Claremont comic for sure. It's sort of wonderfully unaware of how stilted it is in a way that makes it enjoyable to me. There's a nice mix of legitimacy and independence here that makes me want to follow it. I barely read any marvel anymore and certainly no X-books... this could be a nice fix for me, especially with it's biweekly schedule and Paul Smith doing art next arc. I'll give it another issue.
Amazing Spider-man wait does Daken have pheromone powers? I wasn't aware. An okay issue. I like the Doc Ock stuff brewing, but I hope it isn't all about Aunt May. That would be a bit odd. Norman and the Dark Avengers leave me cold as always.

Wolverine: Eh. Dropped.
Uncanny: Eh. One more issue, then it's dropped.
Flash: Rebirth: Eh. 50% chance of getting dropped.
The Ignition City I missed a week or two ago: Fucking great. If the art was better I'd be ready to call this one an instant classic.

With you on Flash, Pat.
Deadpool, however, was hilarious and a ton of fun. I wish other books would be this much fun.
Action was great again. Rucka is hitting it outta the park on all levels.

Hack/Slash #23 - There are two short stories but oddly, one of them is set at Christmas. I guess all those delays last year is apparent here. Still, great issue.
Absolution #0 - Tried out this issue because I like Christos. Interesting so far.
Lockjaw & The Pet Avengers #2 - What a fun series!
Batman #687 - Pretty good issue, love Benes art. I might pick up future issues for the Bagley art but I get the feeling that Batman & Robin is where I'll mostly get my Batman fix.
Buffy: Tales of the Vampire - Finally got this issue with the Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon cover. Great one shot!

Amazing Spider-Man #597- I am really liking American Son. Joe Kelly is doing a fantastic job on this arc. That was a great cliffhangers as well. My one complaint is the inconsistency on the artwork. Three issues, three artists.
Uncanny X-Men #511-Great issue and a great finish to the arc. I loved the friction between Logan and Scott at the beginning of the issue. Getting to see Dazzler actually showing some power was cool. The resolution with Psylocke was both surprising and satisfying to me. I was surprised that Fraction put Psylocke back in her asian body. The last page was something that I can't wait to see play out. Beast calling out both Scott and Emma on their secrets has been something that I have been waiting to see. Love it!
Deadpool #11-I thought last issue missed a beat, but this issue put things back on track. The talkshow bit was great. I laughed out loud at the meat suit and grade school flashbacks. Watching Deadpool and Bullseye one up each other is fun and entertaining.
X-Factor #44- Good issue, but not great. I am liking the Madrox stuff more than the rest of team. I was a little let down because I thought the issue was going to spotlight Monet.
X-Men Forever #1- It was a lot better than I thought it would be. I liked Tom Grummet's art a lot, and it felt like Claremont cut back on the exposition in comparison to his more recent work. It could be the nostalgia talking(X-Men #1-#3 were my entry in to both The X-Men and comics), but it is enough to make me want to pick up issue two. I am actually curious to see how some of this plays out.

X-Factor was good, and interesting ending.
Red Robin - Loved it! Art and writing were both very solid. I really liked the feel of the book. Was unsure about picking it up at the shop. Glad I did.

Batman- Even though I like Winick and loved his first Batman run I thought this was going to be horrible after reading the amazing Batman and Robin. It's not quite as good as B&R but damn I think it was Winnick's best Batman story yet. Loved the flashbacks. Loved the end. Wanted to go steady with the middle. Two for two Batman team. A
Red Robin- Not a Tim Drake fan but even still I'm not sure whether I like brooding Tim more than regular Tim. That said if any character in the DCU has a right to be a little batshit right now it's Tim given everything that's happened to the poor kid. Not a huge fan of the rougher looking art but the first issue was more enjoyable for me that any of the old Robin books I read. C+
Flash- I love Barry Allen. Hate the Speed Force. Hopefully with the end of this issue (which I loved) it'll be coming to an end as a frequent plot device. I dug Barry's motivation and the interaction with Superman but while the art is blowing me away the story is still a little flat. B
Amazing Spider-Man- This book is getting better and better. I'm sort of tired of the whole Dark Reign/Dark Avengers business but it was executed great here. Harry is a dick and Osborn has been written so well in this storyarc. What an ending, too! A+
Bought but not read: Deadpool, Toy Story, Angel, JSA vs Kobra, Wolverine and Punisher Max

FF
I have high hopes for the final arc of the Millar/Hitch run, but still waiting for a BIG payoff. Didn't like this issue as much as the previous.
Deadpool #11
Still funny as hell. Love this series.
Amazing Spider-Man #597
Favorite Joe Kelly ASM issue yet.

Batman & Robin - It's a well-known fact that Morrison & Quitely are magic, so saying this book was amazing is almost not needed. I will say that it gave me the same rush that I got from reading All Star Superman #1, except that in this case, I love the Bat characters too much to wait for the trade. So, I'm in for B&R, for as long as they'll have me.
Red Robin - Tim Drake has always been my favorite character in the DCU. Chuck Dixon's run on the book is one of my favorite comic series of all time. I WANT to read another Tim Drake book. This... was a different Tim Drake than I'm used to. Luckily, the writer was smart enough to justify the change in his demeanor in a logical and believable way. In the end, Tim has always been the detective. It's nice to see that being the through line of his series. I wasn't a huge fan of the art, but yeah... I'm in. For at least the first story arch, I'm in.
Batman - I hear so many mixed reviews of Judd Winick's writing that I was sort of iffy on getting this issue, but I figured, what the hell... every other book in DC's current roster is interesting as hell... why not give it a shot? I'm so glad I did. It gave me exactly what I wanted, and, again, the writer justified the new direction in a way that made me absolutely at peace with the existence of two Batman titles. So, yeah... at least for the time being, I'm in for this one also.
DC has finally done it. I'm collecting single issue comics again, and they are not Marvel. Will wonders never cease.

FF - I sort of saw it coming but it was still pretty good. Too bad about Hitch not doing the last ish. Even if they Giant-sized it I would've waited for it. Oh well...
Wolverine - With regards to the Jason Aaron story, I'm guessing its not everyone's cup of tea but I appreciate these kinds of stories and I really felt for Wolverine. It makes sense, at least to me, why he's on so many teams and why he's trying to do so much. Adam Kubert is awesome as usual, what's he doing next? And that first page by Morry Hollowell, I thought it was a Civil War flashback! For a sec I thought they got McNiven to do a page :p Great work by everyone! And didn't that 'snikety snikt' line come from a Benbo poster?
Amazing Spidey - Damn, what a killer ending! Not a big fan of having different artists each issue and I've never heard of Checchetto (and Siqueira last week) but great work by those guys, I like them a lot.

Deadpool was amazing this week. I laughed out loud a few times, and the "I am the Meat" line is the funniest one-liner/panel in comics in ages.
This is the most fun book on the stands, easily. EASILY.
PS: Uncanny was great too, Fraction's got a lot of balls in the air with a lot of characters, and he's doing it magnificently.

Way is doing a bang-up job. Outside the T-Bolts crossover, I've had a blast with this title. Gischler has his work cut out for him on the second Deadpool book.

Even though everything about FF #567 was completely forced and the drama forecasted, it worked for me on every level. Book of the week.
I haven't felt this much raw power in someone's art since Doom took on the Beyonder in the original Secret Wars. I happen to think that Hitch's art is aided by the multiple inkers and has even more weight and velocity than usual.
Instead of Ultimates realism, what we get is a realistic-looking version of a Byrne-era FF tale. It feels like vintage Marvel in widescreen. Doom dropped into the gaping maw of a Megalodon is pure, comic, goodness.
And while it's always tough to wrench a new big bad into an established continuity, Doom's master "The Marquis of Death" has a corrupted presence unparalleled in most recent comics, save for most of Guy Davis' designs in BPRD. I want him to become established and welcomed into the Marvel Villain club house.
I'm looking forward to the rest and already genuinely regretting (not just grousing) that Hitch won't be on board to see this one through.

Yes Daken has pheromone powers. And yeah I enjoyed the reveal but really you can't compare the Flash to the GL Corps. The relationship between Barry and the other Flashes is a family relationship not a working one or friendship thing like the GL Corps.

Because it was a light week, I picked up Red Robin, Batman, and Absolution today.
Red Robin didn't do much for me, but I think that had more to do with the whole issue being a first issue that set up the series rather than dropped you straight into the main thrust. So I'll probably give it a second look, but no promises after that.
Batman was good, but not great...and we just did a 3-part mini dedicated to Dick accepting the need for there to be a Batman and then becoming him. This seems like a step backwards, storyline wise.
The Absolution #0 was a good read, but I wonder if between this comic, The Mighty, and Irredeemable; there might be a little much homicidal super hero book on the market. So the question will be which one (or ones) to get tossed aside?
As for the rest, well that's here (http://funnybookoftheweek.blogspot.com). May my plugs always be shameless.

uncanny x-men- good end to the sisterhood storyline. the uncomfortable silence between logan and scott in the begining was funny. i like dazzler referencing the past as she confronts psylocke, i nice touch that referenced comics i bought, like, 20 years ago. i hope to see more of the sisterhood, maybe drawn by someone who can do more then 1 female face. i loved the switch to dodson's art in the end, announcing the switch to the next storyline featuring the x-club.
walking dead- carl's creeping me out. i like this book, but at some point it really starts to just feel like a downer with all the death and lost characters. it's cool, but not alot of fun to read.
ult. wolverine vs hulk- a solid, if not spectacular end to the series. the 12 year old boy in me really wanted to see more of naked she hulk kicking wolvie's ass, but you cant have everything.
new avengers 53- got it a little late. cool art, cool story. dont know about brother voodooo as the new sorcerer supreme, never would have guessed him. don't know where it will leave dr. strange. it would be interesting to see him struggle as a second rate magician now, the sorcerer in decline.

I finally got a copy of issue 61 with 62 today and really I'm glad I did. I do understand your point though. Deaths have been pretty meaningless in that book lately. I do really look forward to this Hunters arc thats starting. It seems that if anyone else dies soon it will definitely be for story progression and not for cheap thrills. (I hope)
As for the suprise deaths in these last two issues, they didn't phase me at all. Those characters were never really fleshed out anywho they always were just background fodder as far as I was concerned.
I will be pissed it they finally off Dale as I like that he's still the reason of the group. I really think Kirkman is leading us on with Carl though and he's the next to die a "important death" for sure

If that happens, I'm done with the book. That's the character that's made it worth reading since the "No One Is Safe" culling of the cast.
