so i've been trying to track down over the last month a Wheaten Terrier puppy for my family- they really want a wheaten for a variety of reasons (hypo-allergenic, adorable, friendly) and I want to do it through a reputable breeder. But on Long Island, that's a little hard to come by, especially for a more rare breed. we're willing to travel 4 or 5 hours for one, but from the official club breeders, only one or two have litters and those are in high demand.
and then of course some pet shops do carry Wheatens, but I don't want to support puppy mills- so that's always a gray area for me. I did go into one pet shop today and couldn't get over how adorable the wheaten puppies were- 9 weeks old and so ready to go home. but i had to fight off the urge.
and i'd love to rescue a puppy, but getting a purebred puppy wheaten is pretty much not gonna happen.
so i just gotta keep workin the phones hoping a real breeder will have something for me.
anyone else have trouble tracking down puppies like this? did you end up settling for a pet shop puppy?
