and all I have to say is "HOLY SHIT" that fucking rocks. I love how right off the bat they show you that this isn't really kids stuff.

I love Cobra Commander's voice. It's not trying to emulate Chris Latta's raspy over the top voice, but it sounds sinister as hell.

All in all, very good stuff, I loved the pacing of it.

Charlie Adler is doing the voice. And Adler also voices Starscream in the TRANSFORMERS film franchise.

So it's carrying on the tradition. :D

Pretty cool. Is this for a new cartoon series or to promote the movie?

Saw the first one. Gee, things happen really fast, especially near the beginning.

And ha, I remember Ellis talking about asking Hasbro if he could blow up Moscow like two years ago.

It amused me to do so. I wanted to work with the producers and director involved. I wanted to do more animation writing, especially with a guaranteed production on the other end. I wanted to do something direct to internet, which this was pitched as for the start. And, really, I knew pretty much nothing about GI JOE when I took the job, and had no attachment to it whatsoever -- and was greatly amused that that was a factor in hiring me. For me, it was all about the people and the process.

Also, obviously, getting to stab, blow up and otherwise ruin people's childhood heroes is always a bonus.

Yep, and Adler has always been the guy I've felt should take over those roles since Latta died. I'm quite pleased that the powers that be agree.

He does a great job, here, as expected.

Huh. Well, as someone who grew up on both the cartoon and later the comic, I have to say it's astounding how well you've captured and integrated elements of both, then.

Also, the Snake-Eyes deployment scene strongly reminded me of this Lee Weeks cover:

I thought that might have been intentional, but I guess not.

Excellent work so far, Warren.

After watching the first two episodes, I think I can say this will be better than the Live-Action movie.

By the way, the animation looks like it was done by the people who do The Boondocks. Which is pretty cool if it is.

Titmouse did the animation, they're based here out of L.A.

They did Afro Samurai and are working on the Black Panther cartoon.

Madhouse Studios does Boondocks.

I didn't know Titmouse did the animation. Though it does make sense. I know that Dave Johnson (Superman:Red Son, 100 Bullets covers) works for them and he did some production work for Resolute.

Very cool. I like how the characters are all updated, but it's still very clear who they all are. Weird to see Snake Eyes taking guys out like that, but he is a ninja. Makes sense.

The only thing that bugged the shit out of me in the old cartoon was that they really never used Snake Eyes. Which was weird because he was like the most popular character. And there never was a Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow face off in the old cartoon. Storm Shadow would always end up fighting someone like Quick Kick or Spirit.

I just think a lot of writers were intimidated by his character. He doesn't speak, and you can't see his face. It's difficult to have character express thoughts or emotions if you don't have those 2 things. You have to be a really good writer to pull that off.

Snake-Eyes has probably never seemed as gimp-like as he does in that second episode when his outfit creaks every time he moves.

I have to say I'm really surprised that Warren Ellis didn't have any prior knowledge of GI Joe before writing this because it comes off as almost a labor of love in its execution.

Having had no contact whatsoever with this franchise, the only reason I watched this cartoon (or knew about it) is because Warren Ellis mentioned it on his website.

I'm glad I did. It's building very nicely, the ninja stuff is badass, and I like the villainous logic of pretending weakness to make your minions think. I'm down for this.
