What happy, family-friendly films Von Trier makes!!!!
I remember the first time I saw The Idiots. Good times.

When I was a kid, my father took me me to watch The Last Temptation of Christ, and there were some protesters outside with picket signs and everything. I felt like a movie star. I remember smiling and waving.

I remember the same thing at Temptation. Even better was the re-release of The Exorcist several years ago. There were a lot more protesters at that one.

You two ever seen a Lars Von Trier film? Jabsen, "standard" is the last word I'd attach to one of his films, and Ryan, I'd replace "silly" with "sometimes has the power to get under your skin, emotionally drain you, piss you off or all of the above simultaneously."
I used to be a huge fan of his works, but man, they do test you at times.
I'd recommend a horror TV show he did called The Kingdom. It's like The Shining meets ER. They tried to do an American version of it called Kingdom Hospital that Stephen King wrote, but that was shit!!!!

I saw The Kingdom in the theatre. 5 hours, one intermission. But yeah, that was awesome.
I think with Lars, it really depends on what you're looking for, like you said. Something like, for instance, Dogville, can be just up one person's alley (mine), and a complete flop for someone else (my friend).
It all really depends.

Both excellent, though, AFAIC.
I still think Dogville is von Trier's masterpiece so far.

But isn't that enough to make you interested? I think they show you enough to pique the interest, but not enough to give stuff away. Which, let's be honest, 95% of movie trailers do these days. It was perfect to me.

The plot didn't seem all that confusing to me - it seems to be about a therapist and a particularly difficult patient who has a tremendous fear of the woods/a particular cabin. They go out there to get rid of her fear when truly evil things appear to start happening. Also, they have sex, which is generally considered a no-no with therapists and their patients, so maybe their just a couple.
I say seems because this is Lars von Trier and the trailer could really only be part of the picture.

I'm all for trailers not giving the majority of the movie away in the first trailer, but...usually most trailers give me a general plot summary(like the back of a DVD box). This...I had no fucking clue, nor do I after a second viewing.

Yea, sure. You've got Dafoe talking about conquering fear, you've got Gainsbourg sitting, eyes closed, listening about fear, you've got talk about medication, you've got Dafoe asking what Gainsbourg is seeing exactly, and you've got weird ass imagery suggesting that maybe Gainsbourg is right.
But we can agree on Dafoe ass. Scary stuff!

Truth be told, I kinda hate David Lynch, just always been a fan of that video.
I do think the trailer gives the viewer a rough idea as to what the film is about, though.

Thats strange to me that you like Lynch so much. Since his movies are mazes of logic and supernatural. They never are exactly what they seem and need repeat viewing to completely understand. But this trailer has you so perplexed. I got the same thing that Henry got.

One of the last dreams I remember in a little detail was Lars von Trier deciding to set up a table in artist alley at this year's WWC. "Why Chicago, Lars?" somebody asks. "Too many people at San Diego. I need room to move around." he says. Which is strange because he's squeezed into his artist alley spot because he waited until last minute and didn't get a good spot.
"Is that Lars von Trier? What is Lars von Trier doing here?" I say. Then one of my friends, who didn't even go to the con with another friend and myself and is sitting in artist alley for some realon, makes a joke referring to one of his movies and everybody laughs and gets the reference he makes.

The trailer isn't what gets me to watch a Lars von Trier movie. Lars von Trier is what gets me to watch a Lars von Trier movie. I'm saying this, even though I still haven't got around to watching either Dogville or it's follow up.

I concur. I used to think of him as a pretentious asshole, then a mentally unstable pretentious asshole. Paul Bettany (you know, Mr. Jennifer Connelly) told some story (this is purely from memory) about how Von Trier picked him at the airport and took him to his hotel room. Said Von Trier was acting all weird and sketchy. Sitting in the hotel room was a mysterious piece of luggage (that Von Trier had planted). Later, Nicole Kidman came to visit, and when Nicole was there, Von Trier opened up the luggage and said something like, "Oh my God, Paul, this is disgusting!!!! How could you?" before storming out of the hotel room, leaving Nicole Kidman and Paul Bettany alone, thinking, What da fuck? The luggage was filled with porn magazines.

I think everyone's that worked with him has some fucked up story about him. A few of 'em refuse to work with him afterwards. Von Trier strikes me as one of those people who, if he hadn't been successful at making movies, would end up being something like a serial killer or infamous cannibal. I can't remember where, but I remember seeing clips of a movie he made as a kid; in one, he hangs himself.
