In Chris Giarrusso's recent CBR interview (http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=20676), he mentions that "Marvel feels that Mini Marvels will confuse their Super Hero Squad branding too much, so there are currently no plans to continue Mini Marvels."

Harsh.

At least Chris is still doing G-Man. But I'm just as bummed when the same thing happened 5 years ago when Marvel stopped doing Mini Marvels :(

that's silly. Why can't they coexist? This is very "DC" of them.

Well that is just shitty as hell. Those were some of my favorite bits.

No offense, but Super-hero Squad is not real and no one will be talking about that in the future. People will be talking about Mini Marvel for years to come just like they already have been.

Mini Marvels will be back someday, I'd bet on it.

I know Super Hero Squad strip isn't targeted at me but I have the same thoughts. It just seems most cartoons end after a few years (didn't The Batman start in 2005?). Once the Super Hero Squad cartoon is over in a few years, I hope Mini Marvels returns. It seemed like it had a strong comeback in the Marvel Adventures books and digests.

Considering superhero squad sucks ass (or is going to, I don't know what it is, I'm just assuming it's horrible based on my anger) and Mini Marvels was actually something special, that is quite the downer.

Bad move, Marvel. This is one of those dumbass business decisions fans will never think or care about but the executives assume that we will anyway.

Hyperstorm

Well, that just plain sucks.

All I know of Super Hero Squad is the 3 panel strips, but based on that I find the humour too corny and the artwork uninspiring. I have yet to see a single SHS strip that even gets me to crack a smile. Mini Marvels on the other hand had me buying two digests (despite the last one being $10 for 96 pages while the first only cost $8) which I have read several times over before handing over to my niece.

Farewell Mini Marvels. We bearly knew ya.

Wait..so they basically ripped off Chris and decide to kill off Mini Marvels so they could make more money off a crappy mainstream manufactured version of it?

There's gotta be more!

It's sad but like others say, I'm sure it'll be back in the future.

Fuck..

I'm not used to being called out on my BS, you're going to have to give me a minute here.

It's probably not.

I just know deep in my heart, whatever the hell it is, I already stubbornly hate it.

Chris Giarrusso doesn't do Franklin Richards, that's Chris Eliopoulos.

Incidentally, why couldn't they get Giarrusso to produce the SHS strips?

I've loved reading the mini-marvels for almost 8 years now in my case, and they just make me smile. They're funny, and they're funny to all audiences. They don't talk down to kids and they don't dumb things down, they're fantastic, and I'm really upset that they're stopping production on them. Y'know what was always one my favorite ones? http://www.chrisgcomics.com/bpb.html Just makes me laugh

The Hawkeye back up in this week's Marvel Assistant Sized Spectacular was really good for any who may have missed it.

I kind of consider Mini-Marvels and Superhero Squad to co-exist, with different art styles portraying the same characters, perhaps with an alternate universe vibe.

This is lame.

Marvel really seems to have no idea what to do with Giarrusso. Meanwhile, that Franklin Richards guy keeps getting issues, and this Squad crap, too.

DC should really swoop in and sign up Giarrusso to do a Justice League counterpart to Tiny Titans. Eyes Of The Industry? Are you reading this?!

I really wish Giarusso was in charge of SHS. I love the toyline, and I'd be totally be down with an an animated version of Mini Marvels.

Absolutely. i'd buy that more than Mini-Marvels...Mostly because I'm more of a DC guy (initially).

Boooooooooo!

Whatever, I'll be picking up his G-Man digests now, and Chris will be getting more of my money now that Marvel won't get a taste. As for Super Hero Squad, well, I'm sure the 8-year olds will eat that unfunny shit right up.

a comic company can't have books that resemble each other?

This should be back, because these Mini Marvels were running way back in the Jemas days, and they made a nice comeback.

I think their logic wouldn't be that, it's more that SHS is a brand that they are pushing.

Have you seen those goofy little action figures of Marvel characters? It's them. They're doing a TV series and a game IIRC.

I was never really a fan, to be honest.

gomi
04-04-2009, 11:06 AM
I prefer Chris's take to Hembeck's, but I generally enjoy both. There's enough super-serious Marvel work around, when they loosen up and laugh at themselves, I'm usually ready for it. Mahfood's Ultimate Marvel Team-Up was a really fun time as well.

Probably the best way to show your support of Chris G would be to pre-order the new G-Man digest, the order cutoff for which is rapidly approaching.

Or, I don't know, maybe the best thing is to make empty, veiled threats at Marvel on the internet.

gomi

I wasn't referencing anything in particular.

But the guy is still making comics. Those comics are still for sale. Those comics are even in the same genre. They are available for order now.

Hm those big egg ones that I see around comic shops?

A google search has shown I didn't know what these were, and now I'm disappointed it's not a cartoon based on the big round egg toys

two thoughts -

1. i love mini marvels and it's idiotic to "cancel" it. it's ALREADY a successful brand. guh. so stupid.

2. i am PUMPED for G-Man!
