View Full Version : Hey, Bendis? Can I trade in my old trades of JINX and A.K.A. GOLDFISH for new ones?

Many, many moons ago...At the 2000 Pittsburgh Comicon, I Picked up trade paperbacks of JINX and A.K.A. GOLDFISH along with issues 1-3 of FORTUNE AND GLORY (which had just wrapped up) and issue 1 of POWERS (which was just starting). You were kind enough to chat and sign my books and I exited a Bendis convert. I read every page of them and loved them (and continued, to this day, to buy POWERS which is still one of the best books out there).
Yesterday I decided to re-read A.K.A. GOLDFISH and JINX after eight years and found that the pages in each had REALLY yellowed. Now, I'm sure this is simply due to time and the fact that they weren't exactly printed on the best paper.
So, I'm wondering if I can trade them in for newer copies? I'll send the old ones to you so you can see that I'm not full of it. And I'll send a S.A.S.E. so you don't have to pay shipping.
See, I love the stories but I don't want the books disintegrating on me in a few years.
Please?
Hmm?

They DO?
So I'm not the only one who thought of asking?
Damn.
It's true, though, the pages ARE pretty yellowed.

Really? You mean things you bought years ago deteriorate over time?

It's true, though, the pages ARE pretty yellowed.I've only seen these requests when someone has purchased one of the old Jinx/Goldfish trades and they FELL APART due to some bad binding that happened with some of the printings.
I've never seen anyone with the balls to ask for free replacements due to "yellowed" pages.

Dear Doc Martens,
I bought a pair of your boots 10 years ago.
I've worn them nearly everyday since, they've gotten muddied, bloodied, scuffed and buffed and well, nowadays they just don't retain their shine after a good polishin'.
Heck, there's even a few rips where the normal wear and tear that occurs over a decade are on the toes and sides.
Could I trade these in for a brand new pair?
I'll even enclose a SAS Box so you don't have to cover shipping.
Thanks in advance!

MEH HEH HEH REALLY?
sigh
I bought STRANGERS IN PARADISE trades at the same convention and those pages are white as snow, smart guy.
I think Bendis would agree that the paper quality wasn't the best.
BUT, they HAVE held together.

So what if they weren't the best quality? What does that entitle you to? Write to Image and complain.

ACTUALLY (another smart guy. Yay, internet!) Doc Martens WILL replace your shoes if they start to fall apart in the seam area.
It's true.

Never said I thought I was ENTITLED to anything. Just wondering.
Figured it was worth a try.
Guys, we should stop beating around the bush.
What we're trying to say, "that bastard," is that Bendis would be happy to replace your comics. He'll even pay the shipping.

Is he still doing that deal where he places a crisp $50 bill on a satin pillow in the envelope as amends for the distress it so caused the poster?

No. That's only for old TORSO trades.
