Ok the Oscars are comign up and I want to get opinions on whose going to win what. The first is best picture:

Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Cean Chaffin
Frost/Nixon - Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Eric Fellner
Milk - Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen
The Reader - Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Redmond Morris, Donna Gigliotti
Slumdog Millionaire - Christian Colson

For me I have to give it to Frost NIxon. That film was cast great and they all acted wonderfully in that film.

I want it to go to Frost/Nixon as well. Which, unfortunately, is the death knell of it's Oscar hopes.

i loved it too, and also don't think it will win best picture.

i'm guessing slumdog or benjamin will be the films to beat

The unoffical rules of the OScars: 1. the most popular movie doesn't actually win. 2. any movie with brad pitt invilve is automatically denied. 3. as much as i live his work. danny boyle will be haunted by the 28 days later and sunshine movie. The only competition i see is the reader and as you can see im tired and came uop with three rules

I agree, although I personally liked Milk better than Frost/Nixon (which, don't get me wrong, was an exceptional film and one of only two Ron Howard films that I can say that about - the other being Apollo 13).

I don't mean to be too cynical, but I think liberal guilt triumphs over everything and that Slumdog will win, despite the film's problematic politics (again, IMO).

I don't think most people know who Danny Boyle is much less that he's directed a couple of sci-fi movies. He's probably one of the most prolific directors working today. He has a visual style but he certainly doesn't pigeonhole himself to a certain type of movie the way most directors do. I think he's got a pretty good chance whereas the other movies have a lot working against them.

Button is the only real competition he has here and it's a pretty depressing movie and kind of derivative of Forest Gump. What's most impressive about the movie are the special effects and I don't think most people realize how much of that there is. It's a lot more than just making Brad Pitt look old. Fincher does some amazing things with CGI that most people don't see, which is the way it should be really. Unfortunately, stuff like that doesn't win best picture.

The Reader I haven't seen but I've heard a lot of complaining about it's sympathetic portrayal of it's lead character and it's been condemned in some circles as well so I don't think it has much of a chance.

Haven't seen Frost/Nixon but I've heard it's good. I still don't see Howard winning another one though. The Academy likes to reward people once or twice and then move on.

Milk might have a chance. I wouldn't be unhappy if it won but I don't think the Academy has much respect for Penn or Van Sant.

I saw The Visitor last night which was a nice little surprise. I'm glad it was nominated because I don't think I would have heard of it otherwise. I've always like Richard Jenkins so it was nice to see him get a showcase like this.
