and he's constantly posting pro-marijuana stuff on his MySpace bulletins. Tonight, he posted this...
N.Y.C.A.M.P.
New York Citizens Against Marijuana Prohibition
NY Citizens Against Marijuana Prohibition
Call to Action - Pass this on!
IT'S HIGH TIME WE LEGALIZE!
RALLY FOR LEGALIZATION & REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES
(even if you cannot go - please go to the NY CAMP website and contact your elected officials - otherwise how can we expect them to do what we ask, unless we do?) www. nycamp. org
ALBANY, N.Y.
JAN.
9, 2009
10:00 CAPITOL LAWN
10:30 LOB (lower lobby)
BE A PART OF OUR PASTURES OF PLENTY PRESENTATION
FOR MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION!!
This is not a protest. This is a PEACEFUL assembly lobbying for a redress of grievances.
Voters who want marijuana laws abolished are gathering in number to show we definitely want New York State to:
1) Let the people go free who are being held against their will because they refuse to stop growing, selling, using an herb
2) Rescue their children who were kidnapped under color of law & handed over to strangers where they are subject to mistreatment
3) Return their property that has been confiscated from innocent people peacefully gathered while growing or smoking the herb
4) Expunge criminal records connected with marijuana offences that prevent further education, good jobs or other future opportunity
WE WANT PROTECTION FROM THIS CORRUPT DRUG WAR THAT ONLY FUNDS AND CATERS TO THE BLACK MARKET. IT HAS CORRUPTED OUR POLICE, OUR JUDGES, OUR REPRESENTATIVES AND IT MUST STOP. END PROHIBITION NOW.
This is an old fashioned sit down stand up. Lobbyists be prepared to stay until we get what we want. The first 200 people get a free C.A.M.P.
tee shirt!
And remember Jesus, Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, John Kennedy stood against evil and won because they didn't surrender to tyranny.
We love you and look forward to having your KIND energy at this historic event that will not be easily forgotten.
Now, I'm kinda/sorta with him on this. I don't care if someone smokes pot, I do think they should legalize that shit, tax it, etc...but I still find myself fighting the temptation to tell him that there are much better causes he could devote his time and energy to. Should I bite my e-tongue and let it go...or should I be my usual annoying self and respond to this bulletin in the way that I mentioned? It should be noted that he has asked for "feedback" on some of the social/policital stuff he's posted in the past...and then he's completely ignored me when I've commented or messaged him. Perhaps he just enjoys soapboxing and I should let it go?

Despite being in favor of legalization, the tone of that post really turns me off. It's been outlawed, and in my opinion, it's not worth it, but the people in jail for it aren't "political prisoners" any more than bootleggers. The "list of demands" is particularly obnoxious.

The only real beef I have with pot smokers are the ones that ask someone to try it. Don't peddle it just because you do it.
Oh yeah, and don't do it in neighborhoods around kids. I used to know people who did this. USED TO is the key word.

Tell him to make a donation to drugpolicy.org. Although if he's as adamant about the cause, maybe he already has. But the Drug Policy Alliance are the guys that do research and lobbying for more lenient drug laws.

The 420 Friend posted another bulletin last night featuring this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJkB6c3UlrM
which is soooo goofy, I couldn't resist responding with this...
I agree, the government shouldn't be having people arrested for possessing/smoking marijuana...but I don't think there's anything wrong with a private company deciding it doesn't want to invest it's money in someone who smokes pot. That's especially true when the company in question is being asked to consider investing millions of dollars in a guy who is supposed to have a marketable "All-American boy" image. And really, where do we stop with the protests and boycotts? Should we boycott any company that drug tests its employees and prohibits marijuana usage? We'll all be living in caves if we do that.
Not surprisingly, I didn't get a response.

You sure that teenagers actively want to have a debilitating addiction?

Defending pot growers for the most part entails defending organized crime (usually Hell's Angels). That's the aspect of recreational drug use that most pot advocates tend to ignore.
It's the horse before the cart: Once its use is decriminalized will legitimate growers have a market to go into.

They sure seem to try hard enough (or at least brag about it).

Again: One thing to drink before you are legal.
But I can't believe they literally want an addiction like that.

I was obviously exaggerating... beign more critical of their attitude, and skeptic about their true actions and intentions.
Shutting people like this up is the best reason to legalize marijuana.

Well, they are teenagers. If they knew what they were doing all the time family dynamics would be perfect :)

That aside, this cause is stupid. The cause of pot legalization is not being served by boycotting Kellogg's.

it's a downright goofy and wholly to broad of a statement for it to have any merit. "usually hell's angels" is just a funny thing to say seriously.

oh I see. Well, they control just about all the pot grow-ops in British Columbia, which accounts for a fair chunk of pot supply in Canada and West Coast US.
So yeah, very silly of me :mistrust:

Like a bunch of pot heads are even going to make it to the rally. Most will either be late or completely forget. Some will even show up on the wrong day and hit the closest burger joint when they finish their blunts.
Legalizing would be fine with me as long as companies are allowed to discriminate based on drug use. I know I don't need a stoned doctor performing surgery on me.

yes, they control some of the pot coming from b.c., but saying "usually hell's angels" implies that they control most of the pot trade in the free world. it's a broad and silly statement.

You have obviously never been to a legalize marijuana rally (held every year..'the potfest') in Boston, because people don't just show up, they do so in large numbers.
oh, and mass. residents recently decriminalized marijuana posession. If you are found to have pot on you, you get a citation/fine (unless you are under 18) for anything under 1 oz. (of course, if you are caught smoking it, you are still subject to arrest)

While you bring it up, how about drinking and being drunk around children? Or smoking cigarettes in front of them, giving them second-hand smoke?

Well, since the fat guy never mentioned eating any pot, I assumed he prefers the typical method of ingesting it. ;)
I wonder if he'd boycott McDonald's if they dropped a spokesman who got nailed for smoking pot. I kinda doubt it.
"Fuck them! Fuck McDonald's! From this point on...dollar menu items only! I'll teach 'em!"

I'm sure there's Kellogg's-owned products the dude will not recognize he's buying/eating.
It's just that I do honestly think people with obvious breathing problems would use other methods to get high. Like pot butter... which isn't exactly helping his situation I would think...
