View Full Version : I am woefully ignorant about Christmas music...

I have gone my entire life without hearing “Backdoor Santa”. And this year, I have heard some version of it or another at least twice per day.

This happened a few years ago. Somebody mentioned "Dominic the Donkey", and I had no fucking clue what they were talking about. Within a week, I had heard that song at least a dozen times.

Weird.

All you need to know is SANTA CLAUS WENT STRAIGHT TO THE GHETTO from James Brown's FUNKY CHRISTMAS.

I've got a version of "Backdoor Santa" by B.B. King on my store iPod. I don't know if there's a more messed up version with...uh...anal penetration or something, but even B.B.'s is pretty raunchy. I love the line about how he keeps a pocketful of pennies to hand out to little kids and entertain 'em while he lays down with the missus.

Yeah. Clarence Carter's version is my favorite, because EVERYTHING Clarence sings sounds nasty. Clarence Carter could sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", and it would sound like he was talking about eating pussy.

I despise Christmas music. My wife and I will go into a restaurant and hear Christmas music and turn right around and go somewhere else. I hate X-Mas!

You are probably right. My bad. I read it and was just jealous is all. So to be more positive I will recommend "Christmas at Ground Zero" by Weird Al.

It's a limitation or glitch in the Matrix.

Sort of like when you're playing an RPG video game, and you come across some side characters and have dialogue choices. After a while, you realize that, no matter the choice, the same responses will be engendered, making you realize that you're just playing a game.

Here's an experiment:
"I Saw Grandma Kissing Santa."

While I generally loathe this time of year, I do love Christmas music.

I tend to like the more traditional stuff, "Do you hear what I hear" and "God Rest ye merry Gentlemen." never fail to improve my mood.

Well, your name is maverick.

I generally love Christmas music when I'm in my car or at home or somebody else's house, but I've been listening to Christmas music for the last twenty minutes while sitting here at a Chick-fil-A, and it's already driving me up the wall. Maybe, it's the selection.

Captain Sensible from The Damned did this weird new wave "depressed at Christmas time" song back in the day called "One Christmas Catalogue." Believe it or not, I found out about this when I heard it in a Wendy's last year around Christmas time. You may find it amusing.

My problem with Christmas music is that every store and radio station plays the same God damn 8 songs. At work the other day, I heard two different "remixes" of Rudolph in a single shift. Jesus.

I appreciate people trying to make new ones, but those are a mixed bag. Simple Plan's Christmas song makes me want to punch orphans. Who the fuck greenlit that?

On the other hand, I love Blink 182's Christmas song, and Spitalfield's "It's Cold out there."

It could be the new, contemporary tradition to add to the Christmas canon.

Here is a house with lights synced to "Blue Christmas." The audio is slightly off on the video, but it is still pretty sweet.

I mostly like the Vince Guaraldi Peanuts Christmas album when it comes to specifically "for the celebration of Christmas" Christmas music.

As far as rock songs that are kind of tangentially related to Christmas, the aforementioned Kinks song rules (it is the Kinks, so yeah), and I am also in favor of the Sonics "Don't Believe in Christmas" and the Damned's "There Ain't no Sanity Clause".

...and increasingly towards the novelty end of the spectrum I like Wall of Voodoo's "Shouldn't Have Gotten Him a Gun for Christmas", Servotron's "Christmas Day of the Robots", and, well... the Chrisfits. (http://www.myspace.com/chrisfitsband)

"Prance Among Us" indeed, Chrisfits. "Prance Among Us" indeed...
