If the board wouldn't mind I'd really like some opinions on the mini-series that is currently being released by DC. Yes, I know it's a 'redo' of the book that came out a number of years ago, but I've really been enjoying it. I'm more excited about this mini-series that I have been about comics in a long while. Have people been enjoying it or because it's a remake, of sorts, is there a 'ho-hum' attitude towards it?

I got the original, so I was ho-hum enough on the "remake" that I'm not picking it up - seemed like just a cash grab to me. That said, I'd love to be proven wrong on that. You enjoying it?

To me, the original was perfect, and Sandman is Gaiman's baby, so it's hard to get interested in this. On the other hand, I haven't seen anything of it, so it could be fantastic for all I know. I'm sure I'll read it in trade eventually.
Also, how can you top Amano's art? I mean it, I really want to know. Is it topped? Did they succeed?

Yeah, I am enjoying it a lot, actually. I was never a massive fan of the original, even though I do love Sandman very much and found the illustrations to be very lush. If this had to be done then P. Craig Russell was a fine choice for the artistry. Sometimes it can be a little 'cartoony' but it's rare and overall beautiful.

I don't know if they topped it, but it's beautiful art. For my tastes, at least.

I do like it, though, I might not buy it if I wasn't getting it for free... then again, I buy all things Gaiman...
It's nice, but it is kind of weird to do it over...
I'm torn... well, not really, since as I say, I get it for free! ;-)

Waiting on the inevitable HC. P. Craig Russell is always a must-buy for me, so it has been hard to wait...

I checked out issue #1 because it was 74 cents through DCBS, it was good, but I passed on the rest of the story.

Is it? I thought it was fairly novel. Sometimes I think it would be neat to see the same story done by different artists. We have remakes of movies all the time, especially lately, and it would be interesting to see in comics. It is definitely a different style of art, which is a plus in ways, and I'm glad it was released. Sure, it would of been 'better' to have a new, fresh, Sandman tale by Gaiman but it is better than nothing.

The first issue wasn't as good as the second to me. The cover of the second issue alone was worth it to me but the story was great.

I still need to read the Amano book and I want to read that more than this. I'm a huge Amano fan.
