So I work an extra job at the IGA grocery store here in Pullman for beer/savings money. For the last month we've had this fantastic Keystone motorized beer cooler on display as a raffle prize. It's basically a cooler with wheels, a scooter steering stick, and a little motor. We've had a ton of people enter to win it.
Last night, between 7pm and midnight we had twenty-six people come into the store (along with thirty-two phone calls) wanting to pick up the cooler. They had all received calls telling them that their name had been drawn that afternoon and that they should come on down to pick up the prize.
So, apparently what happened was someone stole the entry box (which was just a shoe-box covered in construction paper on top of a keystone display) yesterday and spent a few hours last night calling all the people that had submitted a form. I had to tell each and every one of the people that came in that the entry box had been stolen and that we hadn't even done the drawing yet. One of our regulars is almost eighty years old and walked down to the store at 9:30, absolutely thrilled that he had won the raffle. I felt so bad for him.
I went in today to get lunch and apparently people are still getting calls and coming in to pick up the cooler. I kind of want to give whoever is doing this props, but the fact that they're devoting this much time to pranking the local grocery store is a bit sad.
