Does anybody have any Kabuki merchandise ideas for David? Things you wish were available to buy? (Not that the merchandise available isn't great, but I want MORE of it!)

For instance, I wish these things were produced:

1) Noh Dragon window cling to put in my car window (OK, so I already made one myself...)

2) Kabuki temporary tattoos (for those who don't want to take the plunge & get a real one...chickens!)

3) More girly t-shirts...preferrably PINK.

4) Kabuki First Aid Kit, for when you are escaping government facilities & get a boo-boo.

5) Kabuki jewelry (ok, so I made a letter-block necklace & earrings outta the Kabuki Heroclix, but I would still buy more)

6) Akemi post-its

A "You don't Know Me" coffee cup.
A "You don't Know Me" Bumper sticker
A "You don't Know Me" Windbreaker (FBI Style)
A wall mounted set of Kabuki's Scythes (on a nice plaque with the Sun/Moon art behind them maybe?)

Glad to hear this!
I'm very much intending to put these out as actual books.

If there is enough of a demand for actual versions of these children's books to support the production costs, I'll be sure to make these!

I'd appreciate all the feed back on these that people will offer.
Let me know if you would like these and any suggestions that occur to you.

Glad you are looking forward to the statue!

And all 8 of the Noh masks are currently available.
I offer them in the back of each of the new Kabuki books.
Just a few of the Siamese set and Kabuki masks left.
But just e-mail at the davidmack.net set to order any of these or get more info on them.
They are all lifesize porcelain masks from Clayburn Moore.

Hmm.
I don't have a coffee cup yet.
But there are a bunch of other Kabuki glasses available at crystaletching.com.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
If I get enough of a demand for something, I'll see what I can do.

Dave, some honest feedback from me: I think you could probably make a killing selling large poster sized prints as well as the regular ones. Also, I agree with the 'more girly shirts' input given earlier by someone. Just from observation i'd say that your female fanbase probably outweighs your male fanbase, so it wouldn't hurt to cater to the ladies a little more :) Definitely get some color in those tee's! Pinks, baby blues, reds, and even some greens and beiges would be my immediate color suggestions, just because, as a girl, those are the colors I go straight for when i'm shopping for t-shirts. Also, maybe throw in a few tank tops to the mix if it's possible to do, because (and this is just observation/preference, so take it with a grain of salt) I think if given the choice between a tee and a tank, many of us girls would reach for the tank top.

I'm not sure if you sell them or not, but stickers are always a great sell.

:babble: Hope i'm being helpful in some manner

I'd by it for me. Invisible Friend might be difficult to teach a child.. although reading children's books in Japan, I was surprised how they dealt with death so openly. I think it's a good thing, though.

Shy Creatures is gold.

Glad to hear it!

Clay Moore is still doing all the rest of the mini busts!
Probably for next year, as he's releasing the Kabuki statue first this October.

The rest of the Kabuki figures are still planned to be released thru Diamond Select. Although, I suspect the release of the next one, depends on how quickly they sell out of the current Scarab action figure.
So please get one if you have not already :)

Thanks for this! it is a big help.

This is a good opportunity to remind people that there are still 4 full size (24x36) Kabuki posters available thru Image comics.
But three of them are just about sold out, so I suggest people order them quickly. You can order them thru Image from your retailer, or directly thru me from davidmack.net or the checklist in the back of each Kabuki issue.

I love the suggestions of the other shirts and shirt styles.
So far, I've only had so much room on my table to take various styles of shirts to conventions, and to list in the books.
It would be nice if I had an entire Kabuki store.
Maybe more of an art gallery building with all my art, and a little gift shop inside to sell the clothing and books and posters and stuff :)

I should also remind that there is a full size wallscroll of Kabuki from Diamond Select still available for reorder.

And Dynamic Forces was planning on releasing some larger Kabuki prints.

What do you think of that?
And feel welcome to mention what images you would like to see on future prints and posters.

And you reminded me.
I did order some new stickers to make available at conventions, and I just remembered that the place has never updated me about that!
That was like 2 years ago. I better call them and see what is going on. :)

I did make a few stickers that I had availble at conventions in 1995. After the sold out, I was just too busy to make more.

So hopefully new stickers soon.

Andy Lee has some great stickers. I remember seeing them on someones car as I passed them on the highway once.

Made me realize how cool it would be to see Kabuki stickers on a car that I drive by on the highway.

They do have the life size replica of the Kabuki scythe made already.

What kind of interest is there in the weaponry?

i'd love more of any kabuki stuff.
here's a few of my ideas:

kabuki plush dolls.-- i've noticed more and more plush dolls in previews in the last few years. since kabuki has just a close tie to japan it seems only good marketing to have plush dolls, especially with the increase in anime and manga interest in the u.s.

key chain figures--again i've seen a lot more of these in previews of late.

plus size kabuki shirts--there is nothing more disheartening then seeing a cool shirt, be it comic book related or not, and not being able to buy it since it's not in my size. you wouldn't have to make a lot of them, but they could be special ordered if someone wanted them.
that's all i got for now, i'll think about this some more.

DYING for the Kabuki scythe!!! Have wanted it FOREVER. Will definitely pick up when it is available.

Not sure that I would buy any other Noh weapons...none of them seem as integral to the characters as Kabuki's. (Actually, I probably would buy them. I can not resist buying everything that says "Kabuki" on it.)

For me, YES! But I have a collection of swords and weapons already, so I'm biased. One thing that always helps me choose display pieces is presentation. It's not always enough to want to buy Narsil from LoTR or the Green Destiny from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Sometimes an attractive wall plaque, with complimentary design is a great bonus. United Cutlery is really very good about that. Also I'm kind of a nut about a sword being an actual blade. It should be able to take and hold an edge, and in a pinch be able to slice onions (Yes I've used my "Sting" for such. It's actually a very good knife.) For a Kabuki Scythe I'd think it should not only look good on thhe wall, but also be able to go out and thresh some wheat, know what I mean? ;-)

Does anybody have any Kabuki merchandise ideas for David?
I'm always thinking bout stuff like this :D

1) - Baby Tee's for the girls would definitely be a good look. But making other style tee's too would be real nice, some stuff in the vain of these (http://www.redtreasurebox.com/treasures.cgi/blouses.html)

2) - some dresses, kinda like this (http://www.goodorient.com/goodorient/product.php?productid=25795&cat=7&page=1)
You could run with sooooo many different colours and designs, the girls would go crazy for them.

3) - Fans (http://www.redtreasurebox.com/treasures.cgi/chinesefans.html), Kabuki print fans, to hang on the wall, would look fantastic.
So would maybe a hanging Noh Dragon or Dream Catchers.

4) - A Kabuki Chess set would be bananas.
You could do them in editions, from plastic, to wooden, to something like this (http://www.the13thfloor.co.uk/product.asp?item=176)

5) - Kabuki sleep ware, PJ's, Kimono's, like these (http://www.redtreasurebox.com/treasures.cgi/catalog/sleepwear.html)

6) - Jewelry, some Noh Dragon chains, Scythe ear rings, belly button chains, that kinda thing.

7) - a Kiligraphy set. You could put it in a beautiful box, chinese writing pen.

8) - Oh, thinking of that, some Wall Hangings, like these (http://www.martialartsgear.com/Decorative/Chinese_Wall_Scrolls/Chinese_Wall_Scrolls.shtml) would look great.

9) - You could even do stuff like a Kabuki chinese tea set.
Not sure what the demand on this would be, but it would look nice.

10) - Kabuki diaries & journals would be nice.

11) - Candles & insense bottles too :D

That's it for now :)

Yeah I started a thread about Kabuki decals back then on the wfcomics boards and you mentioned that story. I was wondering what happened to those stickers. Hope they come out. I'd buy at least one of each.

As for other merchandise I'd like to see other than the art book the Kabuki video game that gets mentioned every now and again sounds cool. I could see a game with the C.O.B. and M.O.T.N. story arcs being very cool.

I'd be very careful with cafepress, they're reputable, but their contract gives them a lot of rights to your products. Of course it's been a while since I checked it out, so they may have changed it, however that's the main reason I never used Cafepress. Plus they charge you retail for the products you sell, so you have to sell them for way over retail value to make any money off of it. Again, maybe they changed that since I last checked them out.

oh, what about a little action figure set of the noh? not anything made out of metal, but maybe vinyl or pvc or whatever's normally used? i think dc made lots of sets like that... i know there was a sandman endless set that i wanted a while ago...?

Have you thought about releasing Kabuki playing cards? Cards were seen in Circle of Blood and Kabuki made some of her own in Skin Deep, so they would have a direct connection to the story :)

And perhaps this is a crazy idea, but maybe the backs of the cards can be arranged to form a page from the Kabuki comics (e.g. 3 columns by 3 rows of cards). Artwork from Kabuki would be a nice change of pace from the usual patterns seen on the back of playing cards :D

"Akemi's Origami Menagerie: A Beginner's Guide to Zen Folding." A How-To book for some of the animals she's folded over the course of the series, along with words of wisdom (some excerpted, some new), quotes, etc. Print it square, with each page perforated so that if someone chooses to, they can remove the pages and fold them.

Soundtrack CD - "Voices of the Noh." While getting permission to use the songs that have appeared in the series to date (Femme Fatale, Great Balls of Fire, et al) might be prohibitively expensive, a collection of songs by independent musicians that are fans, inspired by the series, would not be too difficult to get together, I don't think... intersperse it with a voice actor or two, voicing things like Ukiko's "little sister" broadcasts from when she was a media fixture, or just reading favorite scenes/monologues...

...

But seriously...

I do think playing cards is a great idea. Or a set of eight PVC figures for the Noh, like the ones DC was releasing for some of their characters not long ago.

I'd also really like to see something akin to the Absolute Editions, collecting more of the series at once in a larger format, including perhaps parts of Reflections as bonus material.

But these days, the single issues are barely in my price range... :scared:

I think an oversize edtioon that collects several or all of the trades in one volume would be just great.
But I know it would be expensive too.

If I heard enough of a demand for this, I'd love to accomodate that.

Hi ya'll.

I made Mr. Mack a Little Friends shirt, and he asked me if they were available for sale. I had not intended to sell them, as I felt that would be copyright infringement, but David said I could.

Here's one of the shirt styles. There are more shirt styles, and other items, at my cafepress store.

I just sent an e-mail last week to Diamond asking for a ship date to be nailed down for the sickles.
I'll update you here as soon as I hear from them.

Looking forward to your feedback to Alchemy #5!

Heya david!

Alchemy #5 was a real eye opener for me. Especially last night when i flipped it open to continue reading where i left off and Akemi is talking about how TV and the propoganda pushed via it and other distracting distorting mediums pulls us away from who we are and the real things we can accomplish.

While i was sitting there on the couch with my partner watching the TV in the background, i realised that i was supposed to be continuing my cartoon, getting it ready for the deadline, what was i doing here sitting on the couch!! I jumped up grabbed my sketchbook and headed for the quiet of another room.

Thank you David! While perseverance, motivation and dedication all come from inside, it's nice to have an external reminder every once in a while to get on with things to produce happiness as the by-product not as the goal.

Cheers!
R.

P.S. Any word on the sickles? :) Thanks!

David, what would it take to get a licence from you to make some one of a kind or few of a kind limited edition items? I'm thinking of fabric covered journals and hand beaded bookmarks for a start, and some custom jackets with the tattoo design embroidered on the back. PM me if that is better.

I know most everyone has said the same things I have been thinking but since I've just found this board and repetition of ideas are always helpful, here are my ideas:

1. looking forward to seeing the Sickle
2. action figures of the rest of the Noh
3. More girl shirts! More shirts in general
4. More mini busts
5. love to see Bookends for the siamese twins
6. Wall clock cat that Kabuki had in Skin Deep
7. YOU MUST RELEASE THE CHILDREN'S BOOKS. THEY ARE AMAZING. And I won't give my two year old my comics yet. So he is missing out ;)

Thought of something else...

My Invisible Friend & The Shy Creatures hardbacks. I don't know why these aren't real books.

The following is a mish mosh of what I was thinking as I read the rest of the thread.

I agree with you t-dro!
I love all the stuff there is now, but I would probably do bodily damage to someone to get the following:

The above two hardbacks...actually if i could rule the world (or marvel for a bit) I would actually put Invisible Friend and Shy Creatures out either through Icon or Marvel Age---- or maybe in a completly different banner just so the fans could get it, and still make it avaliable to the big box stores :)

Daredevil hardcover (kinda unrelated I know, but it bugs me) of David's Echo runs.

I know there is a banner type of thing avaliable with one of the DD covers, but can I see some for Kabuki (and the covers to DD 20, 53? lol)

and since i am obessed with them- a black track jacket with the Noh dragon on the back :)

Actually- I think you should just have a David Mack store- totally rake in the $$ there. ;)

I am totally digging the replica weapons... they are so pretty and i want to use them on a friend of mines girlfriend who is annoying the daylights out of me.....

but I wont. I am hanging them on my wall.

A necklace like kabuki's in meta....
along with one that says 'you don't know me'

Random thought- life would be easier if i could see some kabuki stuff in 'normal' store like hot topic. I remember seeing some Gaimen stuff there once, and now they are really kicking up the comic releated stuff.

I think Angel was onto something with the plush dolls- You already have the panda, but I think it would be cool to do all the agents as they look on the NOH tv show ;)

THERES A THOUGHT- In my perfect world that I would run, NOH Cartoons on Cartoon Network :) (but in my perfect world there is also a whole cable network devoted to reairing all the comic book cartoons in the world).

I am sucker for the old metal lunchboxes...how about some kabuki ones?

Secretasiangirl- MAGNETS! I have a pseudo wall (its the back of someone else's cabinet. I have some sketches up there and stuff, but the magnets would be so freaking cool to have.

I would love to see some Kabuki books like the big Alias Omnibus HC.

And since we already have the stuff panda (and this would be great if and when the kids books get printed) what about a stuff unicorn etc of the magical creatures?

*Does happy kabuki dance*
la la la back to work I go....

I thought of a new one last night flipping through previews-

I never have liked any of the bookends that have been produced (and I have yet to see a DD one)...what about Kabuki bookends? You could do a set from each volume...
and for COB and Scarab, it would be really neat if they bookends were black and white instead of colorized.

That black t-shirt Tigerlily wore in Masks of the Noh (which Scarab lent her)

That studded leather choker Tigerlily wears.

I'd buy the Tigerlily mask but I'd be worried that if I wear it, it would fall off and shatter into a thousand porcelain pieces XD

Yes, temporary Noh tattoo, full-sized. I'd buy a set of seven! (or however many days conventions last)

Or another option for those who won't get permanent tattoos:

a sleeveless shirt with a skintone mesh back with Noh tattoo printed on it! As for what design for the front, how about skintone/mesh with black crosses ala-Snapdragon? Or just white fabric with a big red circle :) hehehe!

Well for me in ref to the bookends:

I see bookends all the time of like spidey and stuff (yet to see a daredevil one...sigh) and personally? I don't like them. They are too...cheesy isn't the work i would want to use, but its obvious to the fact that their comics...its comic art... and as we know being kabuki fans... kabuki is ANYTHING BUT comic book art.

Now, if there would be some kabuki bookends, i think it would actually more like a piece of art than say, a spidey bookend would. I would sink money into the kabuki book ends...

Actually I think what would be a perfect bookend set is kabuki as a kid at her mothers gravestone (right before Kai gets to her) and the other half, kabuki as an adult (before she goes after kai) at her mom's gravestone with the orb and her sickle. (all from COB)

i think there are hundreds of diffrent scenes that could be paired up like that within each volume of Kabuki.

that, and i realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly love my track jacket idea. all black with the noh dragon on the back.. :)

Thanks for everyone suggestions!

I've been suggesting a set of bookends for about 10 yrs now to the people I do 3D Kabuki stuff with.
I've discussed it with Dynamic Forces, Clay Moore, and Diamond Select.
In the past, for one reason or another they preferred to do other things at that time instead.

But I'm still hoping and planning and continuing to suggest the bookends!
As I do with the Chess set shown in Circle of Blood.

And glad to hear there is a demand and interest for it here.

So please spread the word to your comic store.

#3 would be Masks of the Noh and Scarab in one oversize volume.

1. For the bookends, couldn't it be something like the gravestone and maybe the house from alchemy? Maybe not the gravestone with little kabuki on it (a bit morbid for some people), but just the gravestone by itself and then the house on the other end. It would be a full circle type of idea.

2- I would buy like 10 of the track jackets. I was thinking it would be all black with the Noh Dragon on the back and on the front instead of a name it would have either "you don't know me" or one of each of the agents (like one would say Kabuki, another tigerlilly etc, that way fans of each of the characters can get the one they want).
oh. damn. I wish I could have that DD one. I reallllllllllllly have been trying to hunt down a DD jacket.

3. The chess set would be so cool. I haven't played in years, but my dad taught me when I was still a lil' thing. I would buy it and reteach myself!

4. WHOO HOOO!

5.I like the OHC break up. Or you could be even neater if you did one of these:
- 2 Omnibus with 3 books in it each
(maybe, maybe not)
or
- the OHC break up that you have now, but also include 2 of the reflections books as bonus material in the order that you released them.

I am very keen to get my grubby little hands on the bronze Kabuki statue!

Knowing castings, albeit usually industrial ones, I do understand the problem of the fragility of not just the sickles but even the arms on this particular statue. As long as you are certain a box would be handled with care, there is not much to fear, but when you can almost be sure that the shipment will be thrown about a bit, it is almost impossible to pack in such a way that the risk is minimized to the maximum ;)

I have even looked at the possibilities of planning a really unnecessary business-trip to the US allowing me to pick up the bronze personally, but that would double the cost of the statue for me!

If there is any possibility, I am willing to go to fair lengths to help!
You are getting my hopes up on this, at least a bit, and I would be very grateful if something could be arranged!
Let me know if and when I can, or need to, do something.
Thanks David!

When I checked your site, it had up to XL. I'll check again though.

Thanks Robin,

I hope so too! Butoh is the next on the agenda.

I think I hear that Tigerlily is out this week?
Does that sound right?

Does it ship this week in Australia?
I recieved mine last week.
I hope you like it.
Let me know what you think.

Yeah I saw it on DavidMackGuide.com and then on Diamondcomics.com that it's supposed to be shipping this week and have emailed my comic shop to triple check.

I'm really looking forward to getting it and will let you know what I think!

We (in New Zealand :D) usually they get 90% of the stuff that comes from Diamond on time (i.e. it's in-store on the shelves by Friday) when it's shipped that week.

Cool, once Butoh is done, did you say that Scarab is going to get a redo to make her more like the other busts too?

Cheers,
Robin

Just wanted to let you know Tigerlily arrived on Friday and she is stunning! The pose, the flower and the look in those eyes are pure magic!

I don't know when it arrived, but I picked it up on Saturday, and you have not said too much Robin! I love it!

Anxious to see Alchemy #9 very soon as well, so a good Kabuki years' end!
Thanks David!

Hoping to pick up Alchemy #9 tomorrow if my shop here in the Metherlands already has it.

Oh, by the way, have you been able to have a word with on that Bronze Kabuki statue? Still very keen!

Hey David, any chance that other agents of the Noh will become statues like Kabuki. I think they would make an excellent series of statues.

I love baby tees. I live in 'em. I want more.

I'm horrible at marketing, so that's the only one I can think of.

Oh, and I love the idea of a temporary tattoo. I love those things.

I agree on the baby-tees, I love my Kabuki tee!! I wear it lots and people always ask me about the dragon.
And I think that I may actually be about to voluntarily buy and wear the first white tee I've ever owned as an adult, on purpose. (if you knew me, you'd understand how huge this is) I saw the 'You Don't Know Me' tee at Heroes, and felt like it should come home with me. I didn't know what to do, I was so conflicted!

So yay on the baby-tees, but I don't do tanks tops for casual wear, and outside of gym I don't wear them. And it's the same with colors. I've only recently started wearing more colors in my tees, I generally don't care for it much. And I've been a girl my whole life. :scared:
But then again, I'm constantly told that I'm an unusual girl.
So that's just me...not saying they shouldn't be available for others!

Hmm, now I should read this whole thread to see if the stuff I was gonna suggest has already be suggested! :)

I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of Kabuki knit cap/beanie just for when its cold. Maybe just keep it simple with embroidered monochromatic mask, Dragon tattoo or the Kabuki Kanji logo (best), hell even the Gai-Jeans logo. Anytime bands have shows the beanies are always #2 sell out on merch. tables after shirts.
Also, I know there are tons of prints now, but I think a limited run of a collection where each agents gets their own print in similar style would be cool - Yeah I know....MORE new artwork....just what you want to hear lol
Personally part of the charm about the Kabuki merch is that its a lot better designed and thought out than many other licences.....the quality over quanity kind of sets it apart. I mean as much as I love the punisher skull......I never needed to see that on pajamas......

Those hats would be great.....old man winter's heading this way, no one wants frozen kabuki-fans.....me thinks a sweet marketing opportunity ;) but hell....I'm getting to the stage I'm happy seeing Kabuki on just about anything lol .....thanks for that virus!
Even some shirts with the Kabuki kanjis off centered only down one side in that jagged scarry font similar to whats one the poor girls face would look pretty badass. Kanjis ALWAYS make for a popular logo.

I would also buy that shirt.

Speaking of shirts, I wish the Kabuki Dragon Tattoo shirt came in different sizes. Not just because I have crazy broad shoulders, but also because I think a lot of guys would dig it too.

I love those ideas about the shirts and the hats.
I'll see what I can do about that.

Treacle, the Kabuki Dragon Tattoo shirt comes in all the regular T-shirt sizes s,m,l, xl, xxl.
And it also comes in that v-neck girl style that you have.

I think Graphitti designs has it in all of those sizes on its site, but I don't think it has the v-neck style.
Graphitti has a few other Kabuki shirts as well.
And a couple DD shirts of my art.
They also have the Powers shirt.

thats one of the neat things about the Noh masks and the actual Kabuki Kanji - simple yet memorable designs that translate well to almost any medium. They all make cool enough logos on their own to make people ask what they are from. ;)

Hi Red,

I'm checking on these cap ideas right now, with a cap maker that has been wanting to do Kabuki stuff.
They just told me they are putting together ideas for the cap with the Kabuki Kanji characters and a design with the Akemi face on it.

Also, regular cap style like you mentioned, and the kind of cap Kabuki has in the Alchemy with the little ears on it.

I'll keep you updated- thanks for the suggestions!
Keep them coming!

PS- I included one of your messages in the letters collumn of the upcoming Reflections #15.
Best!

David - thanks for the include in reflections....its an honor indeed. Appreciate the words about my story (i'll PM you on it.)
Thats fantastic news about the hats coming through.....I know I'll be signing up for one or a half dozen lol. Sound like they'll look pretty awesome!
Without hammering you with requests...and I know this one has been mentioned before, but is there any chance of getting a full size Scarab statue out? It'd just be a really awesome companion piece to the Kabuki one.....figured with the faux bronze soon to be released might be perfect timing to campaign for the line to continue with Scarab ;)
EVERYONE raves about that Kabuki statue (with good reason!) and it'd be nice to see more full size line too.
Cheers!

The Kabuki shirt I was going to get at C2E2 but someone ran out of my size on!

Perhaps some official NOH gear, like night vision goggles, masks, tee shirts or hoodies (that reminds me, I wonder what unmasked Ukiko, Keiko, or Tiger Lily looks like in a hoodie), replica weapons, dvds, etc.

A book of Akemi's top euphemisms, sayings, aphorisms, and inspirational word. Make it something of a Marcus Aerulieus deal or something. Or more comparatively Mao's Little Red Book, only without the history of brutal oppression and genocide attatched to it.

Hey David is there any chance of seeing shirts that are just plain black with the individual agent kanji/kana logos on them? you know the ones you used on the kabuki mask boxes? those logos you used for each agents masks were really well designed and would be awesome on shirts...simple but stylist - the kanji logos on front and maybe the dragon on the backs.
I know that might be a tall order with some of the lesser developed/popular agents, but just a thought.
lol....sorry I ask for a ton of stuff. :P
