on Jetix. Shard, Archangel, Mystique, Sabretooth...

From their 90's heyday-- but not aging well.
I think good stuff can be had from Mystique, Sabretooth, and Angel-- but as they appear here.... unh unh.
And this Shard character, like a descendent of Grace Jones, eewww.

Losing Morph in that first episode was the first time, as a child, that I ever experienced true loss.

I saw an episode the other day titled "Weapon X, lies, and videotape." I was cracking the fuck up.

Indeed.

Except for my Grandfather that is.

Well... nah. I was 3 when my grandfather died. I had no idea wtf was going on. Apparently at his funeral I even ran up to the corpse to try and wake him up. Morph hurt me more I guess. :(

Want some further craziness?

The original X-Men cartoon pilot, Pryde of the X-Men, from 1989...?

The animation is WAY better than the Fox cartoon that got green lit.

(of course... it also covers the plot points of the entire first season of the Fox series and all three movies combined. Plus... y'know... australian Wolverine)

That sort of ruined that rendition of Storm for me. Girl can bat an eyelash and call for monsoon season in the comics and we get overacted verbal commands to Mama Nature.

For the longest time, I thought Storm power worked like Dragonball Z.

Heh... I can imagine...

Five episodes later...

Storm: "RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHH...!!!"

Wolverine: "Anyone wanna make a Quizno's run?"

I'm 35 now, so I was in college when that series debuted so I never really liked it. I'm sure, had I been younger, it would have been the shit but at the time it was thoroughly trumped by BATMAN T.A.S.

The PRYDE OF THE X-MEN pilot and the two X-Men appearances on SPIDER-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS were awesome, though. And I couldn't care less that Wolverine had an Australian accent.

He was my favorite of the X-Men for a while after that show was on. Now I don't have any opinion on him.

I think Carey's going to do some good things with him soon. He wrote a fairly good Gambit so far in X-Men: Legacy. I think the main thing they need to do with Gambit is stop hooking him and Rogue up. Everytime they stop doing that, he becomes a bit more interesting again. Most of the Gambit stories I've really enjoyed from years back are stories that don't have her in them at all. The X-Men/ Ghost Rider crossover that introduced Bella Donna and his mini, that followed up on it being the first two that spring to mind.

And I say this as a big fan of Rogue. I think it'd help her character too.

Also, my own contribution to the quoting. One of my favourites.

When the X-Men movie came out Hugh Jackman made it impossible for me to like any of the X-Men more than Wolverine.

Agreed 100% on Gambit and Rogue. They need to end that shit. They can't touch. We get it.

and for the quote and I'm probably getting it wrong but whatever :

Exactly. We kinda got that whole aspect of Rogue's relationships the LAST 57452 times we heard her complain about it. Considering she's part of a team that has Forge among it's numbers (as well as having access to Tony Stark, Reed Richards and Hank Pym), she can't really complain that she can't touch people. There are plenty of scientists in the MU that could help her with that.

Hell, Forge HAS done something along those lines, with the depowerment gun that he built to use ON Rogue (but used on Storm by accident). But no, we get the "Woe is me" crap everytime Gambit and Rogue are on the page together. The best thing they could do for that character is have her develop control of her powers. Imagine how that'd end up going! A person who just spent her entire life, suddenly able to touch anyone she wanted? That'd have some fairly good stories I'm sure.

And that's a great one too :D

agreed. i always found it sad that the animation from the older cartoon was so much better.

was never really a fan of the 90s cartoon though. animation was bad, and the voice acting wasn't much better.

Really? For me, those will ALWAYS be the voices of the characters. That's why I couldn't really get into Evolution or the new cartoon. The voice actors in the original series just so perfectly defined those characters for me. ESPECIALLY Magneto.

wolverine is probably the only one from that voice cast that i thought worked well.

i suspect, in part, that this is because i watched "pryde of the x-men" a bunch as a kid, so most of those voices were the first i heard associated with those characters.

i found rogue, storm, cyclops, professor x, and jubilee to be the ones that really grated on me for some reason.

In between episodes of X-Men, he played a bad guy on Dragonball Z.

True story.
