For Inspiration...art by John Romita Sr.

This art was originally lost before being printed for Amazing Spider-Man #82. Marie Severin did another version for print and when this art was later found it was used for a cover to Marvel Tales.

cool. Electro should def be shown "using" his powers, slinging a bolt or at least gesturing grandly w/ one or both arms--i really like the dynamic pose of the Mysterio statue & would propose it as a model (tho i think Electro should be more aggressive).

Past attempts at depicting electricity in sculptural form has been met with a lot of negative comments by collectors. (storm statue)

oh--No! i didn't mean a literal lightning bolt, i was referring more to the "throwing" or hands-out gesture he's often shown in, similar to many characters w/ energy powers, such as BB's example or the arm-out poses of yr Dr Strange & Magneto statues, suggesting power rather than showing it.

he could be equally well-rendered in this fashion, suggesting a "building up" of his powers (again, w/out depicting the energy itself):

Perhaps his gloves could be a yellow, clear resin that could "bleed" into his uniform to give the impression that he is charging up? Sort of like the Invisible Girl or Vision.

maybe, but i think that ship sailed w/ the kelly-green & yellow costume & the silly star-shaped pointy mask--nothing to do w/ a powerful, menacing pose.

y'know, a lot of Spidey's nemeses (& comic characters in general) have slightly goofy looks if not done carefully--c'mon, Kraven's polka-dot pants?--I trust Bowen to do as good a job making Electro the deadly bad-ass villain he is, the way he's done w/ Lizard, Mysterio, & Scorpion, silly costume or no.

I totally agree...Electro has can look pretty darn menacing with the right facial and body expression, I'm sure Randy and co. will hit it out of the park.

The pose is great, (referring to the second color picture, not the black and white) but I wouldn't want the hands to be colored resin "bleeding into the statue like the Invisible Woman one. If you go for the electricity maybe you could do something similar to Ironfist statue. Have one or both hands that have a clear/yellow resin bolts rising off them like the picture and have just normal uncharged hands that can be changed. that way the collector can decide how to display it and you (Randy) won't have to hear all the "it should have been done the other way" from whichever side you don't chose to do. Just a thought. I think it worked well for the Ironfist statue......was everyone happy the ability to chose which way they liked it?

Perfect art!! http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/77/210888-83203-electro_super.jpg
Also i think a change'o hands with clear resin powers and without powers can be a nice option and all will be happy.

let's see if i can get the links to work...

like Walrus, i think trying to sculpt the electricity would be problematic--might look like cotton candy as does the Iron Fist "power," but i think a pose where he's "powering up," so to speak, would capture his menace & megalomania w/out being too outlandish or too far from an active museum-pose, as most of the Spidey villains already have.

I didn't post the cover art to suggest that the Electro statue should be sculpted with that pose; I posted the art because it's a great, classic Spidey cover that many of you may have not seen before. There is nothing "corny" about that art unless you think Electro should be drawn with a tiny head and veins bulging out of his spandex while Spidey is looking like he hasn't had a meal in three years!

This is killer Silver Age art, folks; simple & dramatic. Look at the beautiful brush strokes, the high contrast, (who needs color when the blacks are spotted like such?), the energy and drama of this piece!

I'm sure Randy will find the perfect pose for Electro and I agree, this one isn't it. But art like this is sure to inspire even the best!

If the decision is made to go for electricity effect ( please make it change-o-hands if you do), definitely don't want to go for the standard lightning bolt shape, i.e. original Storm statue. Just crackling power similar to the second pic posted would be good. electricity being the energy would be inferrred.

I think that you have had some more recent successes with materials that may suit. I don't have the original storm and can't speak to the same without having seen it.

However, I would suggest something along the lines of the Iron Fist Statue with enery surrounding his hands. Maybe making change-o-hands for the collectors who want to display with such and those who don't can go with boring old no-energy-hands!

Looking at your website, the solicit images for the Firelord bust look like your using a transparent colored resin or something for the fire on his head and staff, that type of material in a yellowish hue may work?

Just my two cents - not like I know squat about the ins and outs of sculpting. I could be way out in left field here:)

Maybe a cool pose would be a museum pose with an evil grin, one hand behind his back and another half-raised, flicking electricity from the tip of his finger?

this is the SORT of pose i'm used to seeing him in: "slinging" a bolt of electricity w/ one hand & "powering-up" another w/ the other hand.

http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/40/133257-167580-electro_super.jpg
likewise, while i like the simple, museum-pose body here (his pic in the orig OHMU), he doesn't seem as powerful or as menacing as he's been made out to be--too "sparky," not enough "electric." He blasted all the baddies out of the Raft w/ a single bolt, so the concept of his pretty considerable power ought to be made clear by the pose.

http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/40/133265-122564-electro_super.jpg
i like the manic aspect of this one, too: it's always seemed that Electro really gets off on using his powers & being a villain. Maybe not so "bwahahahahahaha!," but there ought to be some "Kill him!" evil joy to Electro, too--in my opinion.
