With Fallout 3 coming out soon I think I'm going to break down and get a console. Should it be an XBox 360 or a Playstation 3? Experienced users, give your pros and cons with both. Thanks.

XBOX 360 will have the exclusive downloadable content for Fallout 3
So, if you don't care about Blu Ray, its the 360 all the way.
I'll be buying it for the PC though:D

360 has the price advantage, larger library, better variety, and backwards compatibility. They also have holiday bundles out already; you can get Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indy when you buy a new Pro or Elite, and Sega Superstars Tennis when you buy an Arcade.
PS3 has Blu-Ray.
Both of them are pretty equal graphics-wise, at least so far.
If you don't already have a Blu player and you have the money to spend, buy a PS3. Otherwise, I'd say be frugal and go 360.
360, exclusive DLC for Fallout 3 and a better selection of games otherwise.

Much like the above posts, 360 will have full support. The lead developer(spacing on the name now) has made it known that he is not a fan of PS3.
And with neither system having a mandatory install (with both likely having optional installs if you chose) framerate isn't an issue (maybe less on PS3 as Lucas describes)

I'm loyal to my 60 gb PS3, so when I get around to buying it (way too many fucking games coming out), it'll be on the PS3.

I don't know if the quality of the 360 library will be that much more robust after this fall. PS3 is getting some great games, and catching up fast.

If you have an HD tv and would like a blu-ray get a ps3. The 360 as exclusive DLC so get that if you prefer it. But for the core game, the experience should be the same on both system.
Also consider that if you need wifi, it will add to the cost of the 360 while it's built-in the ps3. But if you buy an arcade you can get a 20$ refurbished 20 gig HDD from microsoft I think.
PS3 and the 360 got a lot of games coming and I consider them equal in their line up overall...
But I am sure the 360 will win the poll since this board in general prefer the xbox.

I don't own a PS3...so I'll be buying it for the 360.
However...even if I did own a PS3...I'd still buy it for the 360.
Why? DLC.
Xbox Live is the reason you should own a 360 not just cause of one game.

This is easy.
1. "I really want more Fallout 3 at a later date." - X-box 360
2. "I really want to watch The Dark Knight in high def at a later date." - PS3
Really though, both systems are great. You won't be disappointed one way or the other. If you're just as much a movie fan (or more) as a gaming fan, then I'd go with a PS3.
I'd definitely keep an eye on the reviews as they start to pop up over the next few weeks. No one knows which we'll play/ look better until then. It's all just guesswork until the game drops, but it's pretty likely they're comparable.

Really is no question here. The DLC alone makes it worth getting on the 360 especially since it's going to be considerable content and not "horse armor".

360 ....for all the other reasons these guys have given....trust me its worth it

Oh I forgot to mention. If you choose a PS3, make sure you get it through Sonystyle.com. If you don't mind signing up for another credit card that is. Not only does it have zero interest for a year, but you get $150 off your first purchase of $300 bucks or more. $250 for an 80 gig PS3 is a pretty damn good deal in my opinion.

it's confirmed that there's exclusive Xbox content?
if not then PC is your best bet, the amount of online content for PC users for Oblivion makes me wish I had gotten that on PC instead of ps3

There's a lot of mentions about PS3, since it has blu-ray. Wasn't there a rumor about BluRay on 360 like, a week ago?

Thanks for the input so far, gang.
As for the PC... I doubt the machine whining on my desktop currently will be able to handle Fallout 3. It does WoW alright, but has the occasional hiccup.
Blu-ray... I don't have a high def TV in my bedroom, where the console will likely be hooked up. Elsewhere in the house I've got a high def widescreen with blu-ray.
I did not know about the exclusive download content (or, I had forgotten about it), so that's a plus for the Xbox 360.
The price point for the Xbox 360 is another plus.
Now, while I've got you here... Any true kick-ass games for one system or the other?
Thanks.

You're going to want to have this hooked up to HD-TV...honestly. Not only will it look insanely better, but there are times where you actually CANNOT see things in standard definition. Especially text, which there will probably be a lot of in Fallout 3.
Since you already have Blu Ray, then I'll change my vote to 360 unless you like more of what Sony has to offer.
Here are a few other things to consider in your decision.
360
- Notable exclusive games. Fable 2, Gears of War 1 and 2, Viva Pinata 1 and 2, Halo 3, Braid, Geometry Wars 1 and 2, Mass Effect, Too Human, and while not exclusive Orange Box runs more smoothly on 360.
- Exclusive content for GTA 4 and Fallout 3.
- Better online functionality, but it will cost you. Typical price is 50 bucks for 13 months, but if you shop around you can find better. There are generally more people on Live as there is a larger installed base.
- To have the 360 connect to Live wirelessly will cost you an extra 100 bucks.
PS3
- Notable exclusive games. Resistance 1 and 2, Little Big Planet, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD, Pixel Junk Monsters & Eden.
- Free online and web browser.
- No matter which version you buy the PS3 will have wireless and a hard drive in the box.
One last thing I want to note. The PS3 still gets a lot of flack for not having good games, but they share a ton of AAA titles.
Call of Duty 4, Rockband, Guitar Hero, Grand Theft Auto 4, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Burnout Paradise, Soul Caliber, all the EA sports franchises etc.
Your best bet would be to research the exclusive games I mentioned above, and see which tickle your fancy more.

Uh, PC. Because it's made by Bethesda, you know they'll release a software construction kit (hell it uses the same Engine as Oblivion so they probably already have one ready), which means you'll be able to play mods made by some very creative people, thus drastically enhancing the value of the game. Hell I still have Morrowind and Oblivion installed because of the great mods people have made.
PC gaming does have it's bonuses, right Nate?

I'm getting it for the PS3. The more time passes, the more I lose the craving for a 360. This is a totally personal answer though.

Technically, that's not true.
You can get the old adapter for around $30-40, the new one is $100.
That having been said, I have both and the $100 is VERY worth it. It's much better than the wireless devices in the Wii and PS3 from what I can tell.
Consider also, you can use the 360 controllers and Wifi devices on your PC as well.
My recommendation is to go to the gaming shops and see how the controllers feel in your hand.
Honestly, the 360 controller is the best IMO. A lot of people who loathe all things Microstation love it. If you get the PS3, I'd get the Rumble version, the weight of it feels a lot better than the Sixaxis edition.
Also worth considering, you can't replace the batteries on the PS3 controllers.. not sure the shelf life of them, but you have to buy a new one or ship it to Sony.

Oops my bad. I had no idea there were two different versions. I have mine connected with an ethernet cable as I'm a cheap bastard.

I agree with both of these things as well. For whatever reason I can't get into sports games on PS3, because of the controller. Even though I played a ton of them on PS2, they just feel more natural on the 360 controller to me. The PS3 does come with the Dualshock 3 now, and it does have a better weight to it. They're phasing out sixaxis (not the feature, but the controller itself) which is good since you can get them on the cheap.

I could have sworn I read something from Bethesda that they weren't releasing a construction kit for this one. Maybe that's since changed, though.

Seems as if they've said it was on the backburner while they were finishing the game. So it may still end up coming out at some point. Doesn't seem like a lot of information about it from them though.

Wow. I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't release a construction set with the game. It only helps sales.

Well if you want an xbox I would suggest to order it from Dell.

Thank god it's not available for that price in Canada or I would probably have to buy it even if I shouldn't!
