That is a nice series, way better than "Fringe".
I hope someday I could see the Patrick Stewart/Ashley Jensen series that originated this one.

Same here. I recorded Eleventh Hour and watched Life On Mars. I liked Life On Mars. That show is worth it just for the sets and Michael Imperioli.

No love for Harvey Keitel?

Really?

Hum. Still curious. Don't know if I can see Jensen with other eyes after "Extras". She's better than Gervais in that.

No love for Harvey Keitel?

if you haven't seen the original, i think life on mars will entertain most people, keitel included, but philip gleistner in the original as gene hunt was incredible.

that's why the character is stil great in ashes to ashes.

Keitel has got too old. He seemed stiff and tired. I love Keitel but they should have gotten a younger guy. He just seems tired.

I am officially deluded. For half a second I thought this was a thread about our anthology title!

So why did they replace Chief O'Brien with Harvey Keitel, anyway?

Also, Eleventh Hour does sound like the better Fringe. Curious to see the first ep.

I watched the original pilot and they changed things a little bit. The new pilot is better, Jason O'Mara looks thinner and better suited for the part. But to be honest I prefered Colm Meaney than Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt.

When I saw Keitel coming out his office with a fan in his hand I had a flashback to the pimp in "Taxi Driver". Like if that pimp had survived and became a chief detective or something like that.

Didn't watch the original series, but I'll try to watch it. Everybody recomends it.

John talked a little about it with Fraction in one of the podcasts.

I did finally watch 11th Hour. It was alright but I like Fringe better. The FOX program obviously doesn't take itself too seriously, which is an asset, and the CBS program would do well to keep that in mind.

.

look at a bunch of classic 70's movies, and keitel is right up there sharing scenes with deniro, nicholson , etc. he's a consumate ny actor.

and while i love colm meany, he's still came off as a brit trying to play ny.

Just saw the real first episode and I liked Keitel in it. But my memory's a little fuzzy on this: Wasn't the original pilot set in LA and did they replace some more of the regulars?

If you've seen the original British version, Harvey Keitel is kind of disappointing. In fact, the first episode was almost line for line the same as the firss episode of the BBC series. I'm hoping they start distance themselves from the original series pretty soon.

I'm getting a little more annoyed with Mars now that I've seen a little bit of the second episode. Once again, scenes and plot taken directly from the British series. Do they realize that the BBC version in its entirety was shorter than a season of US television?

Also, the dialogue they keep putting in there to remind us that it's 1973 is really grating. They seem to be worried that I might know what year it is even though the opening credits clearly display the year and there seem to be hippies everywhere.

I really want to like this show but I fear I'm going to drop it if it doesn't improve soon.

They'll have to even in the first season since hooliganism didn't start in NYC in the early to mid 1970s. ;)

in the 2nd US ep there were bits and characters that were more in sync iwth 1970's america versus 70's england, like sam's hippie neighbor

i knew that most of the early shows would be adapted from the uk show, so overt plot adaptations aren't annoying me.

it's thinking that some of the brit dialouge works in american mouths just as well, and it really doesn't.

keitel was better in ep 2

Agree. I'm a huge fan of the original Coupling, but when those plastic people in the US version went through the motions and did the first episode word for word, it was obvious why this show tanked right out of the gate.

totally agree though LOM hasn't reached that kind of embarrassing level.

Hopefully the US version will grow its own legs quickly and we can get more reverse-Rip van Winkle goodness. Looking forward to watching ep 2 when I've got some time.

I didn't care for the second episode. They shouldn't have tried to remake the show episode by episode. Jason O'Mara is no John Simms. That entire scene where Hunt is trying to get Sam to wipe up the blood... it seemed so watered down from the original scene where Glenister had this really scary anger going and Simms looked guilty and pissed off. Keitel just isn't cutting it either imo.

I think the real problem is that they're remaking the episodes and so since I've seen the UK show this seems like a poor imitation. I'm sure people who haven't seen the original have no issues with this. They need to get started on their own episodes to shake off the comparisons because really... there is no comparison as far as quality goes... the original is far, far, far superior at this point.

Also that hippie girl was damn annoying.

i'm liking LOM so far, but i agree on a lot of the points about being constantly reminded of the year, and as much as like keitel, i like the britsh actor better. i might be more annoyed if i had seen the entire britsh series, but i only saw the last 5 episodes of the show before it ended.

I'm excited for this weeks episode, which looks completely original in all aspects (as opposed to based somewhat on the BBC show).

Second episode was good. LOVED the robot stuff. But as someone else on the board said (I think Generic Poster) the whole episode was hampered by an outright stupid "mystery" (dressed as cops...really? That wasn't your first guess? Ugh.)
