View Full Version : Captain America: Metallic

Here's the painted prototype for the limited metallic Capt. America statue. This was how I had originally intended the paint job to look.

There will be some small but important differences from the regular edition:

1) His head will be turned in the opposite direction. The changes have been made to the master casting, but not to this paint sample as yet. More photos to follow later (head position will be more like the original 1st Cap. full sized statue from 9 years ago). The idea is to create a more heroic/optomistic looking Cap, instead of one that's about to kick the Red Skull's ass.

2) he will have the old school buckle (not shown).

There will be other slight differences as well.

The run on this will be around 300 copies. We're toying with the idea of making them to order, since this will be a site exclusive. In other words, you'll need to reserve a copy, and we'll base the production run on that.

My Cap statue leans to the front. Has this been fixed on this one?

How about a 20-24" high statue of this?

Paint by DannO!

Randy,

I love the paint job and suggested changes. My only concern is turning the head the opposite direction. I like the facing of the current statue because you can see his face and the front of the shield at the same time. If his face is turned too far the other way I have to make a choice which I want to see the face or the shield.

I really have to see the changes before I can make an honest decision. I still find Randy's first Cap from 1999 extremely hard to beat.

For me, this one was perfect.

The Cap that was released is the "proper" look, but the metallic/glossy one that was shown long ago is just so over the top gorgeous! Is it "correct?" Not really, but neither is the Faux Bronze, yet both look amazing! Cap is so iconic that it's easy to take this beautiful sculpt that Randy made & try different things with the paint apps. I've looked at the metallic/glossy one for so long & think it would be a damn shame never to own one.

How about also changing the head-wings back to how they were on the prototype? I remember this was a bone of contention when the production piece came out. A lot of folks were disapointed with the simplified watered-down wings.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the detail on the face was a lot better on the prototype VS the production piece as well.

Agree about the wings! Also i think about the head turn that it can be a problem to have to decide to display the face or the shield, i preffer the actual direction.

I didn't purchase the first one for myself (but as a gift) and this gives me a chance to get the one I originally wanted. Buying one regardless of shield placement, glossy or super-duper glossy or wing size/position.

It would be nice to actually have a Club exclusive....

If I were to buy it, I would like it to be different from the original...besides the paint.

Shield on the left arm or even on his back (I really like the Captain America mini bust with the shield on the back!)

Gotta agree there. I will never part with my MB because I love the sculpt, but the shield on his back is awesome looking.

Randy, How about a collectors club exclusive for the glossy paint? I'm willing to take whatever avenue I can get to purchase the glossy. You can make it a very limited run of about 100. That glossy prototype HAS to be made.

100 is way way WAY too limited. All a run like that would do is make people uninterested in the statue hoard it to resell on ebay. This is a repaint a fair amount of BDCC members are going to want-- a run of 300-500 would probably be ideal in this case. It would be limited, but not ridiculous.

How about tightening up the star on his chest, making it more angular and less blotchy. Also thining the "A" on his forehead and making it less cartoony. It looks like a different font than the "A" he actually wore.

will this be priced out of the stratosphere?

will this be priced out of the stratosphere?

That is my question as well. I have missed every other Cap FS, and I would love to get this one if I can afford it....:surrend:

There wasn't a set font. The "A" changed with the artist. Just like everything else people are making a big deal of.

Ya know, I haven't thought about it in awhile, but are today's artists still shading in around the "A?"

They did it on the MEGO Cap, way back when...

Looks like "Eurostile bold extended" and then extended a little more...although I don't think they gave his "A" an official font..

Hell, I don't care if he makes another 2,500. I just want a glossy one. I'm willing to take whatever combo works for Randy. I'm not against anyone who wants a flat metallic Cap. Maybe Randy can make 500 of each. I just don't want anyone who wants the glossy Cap to be left out. It already happened once before. I'm hoping it doesn't happen again.

WE care about the wings

My heart sank when I read the words exclusive. It would seriously be a very nice piece to have.

And I agree with tightening the star and making the wings how they look like in the proto.
