View Full Version : Post a link to a movie scene that scares you

Since it's Halloween month and everyone's posting horror movie and game challenges, why not? This is going in the same vein as the "favorite scene from a movie" thread... Post a link to a scene from a movie (or movies) that scare you now, or maybe scared you when you were younger. Doesn't even have to be traditional horror movies (Wizard of Oz, for example, scares lots of people...) To make it more interesting, don't post the name of the film -- just the link, so we don't prepare ourselves. ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8ynu0jRvY -- This movie didn't really scare me at all, but this fucking scene was more than enough for me because I didn't expect it. I screamed and jumped when I first saw this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-4f_NMUxcY -- This freaked me out for days after I saw this in the theater, since---well, you'll see.

I'm glad the name of the movie came up before I actually watched the clip. That shit still creeps me out! My cousin had never seen the movie before, so when I knew that scene was coming, I got up and grabbed another beer. A few seconds later, I heard him pause the movie and walk out to the kitchen. "Dude, uh, that bitch is all fucked up. I'll wait until you come back."

the only time any movie scared me was when I was like, 10yrs old. I was watching JAWS for the first time at 3am and the scene where Dreyfus' character is underwater, examining the boat, looking at this huge hole and sees a tooth, then this corpse pops into frame with some dramatic music.

Nothing's scared me in a movie since. it's sad really, cause I'd love to get into a good horror film.

This really doesn't "scare" me, per se, but the first time we get a good look at Fred Kreuger in A Nightmare on Elm Street has always stuck with me. From the shadows to the nightmarish long arms that stretch across the whole alley, to the jaunty run Freddy uses to give chase to Tina, to the "This is God", to the self-mutilation that he finds hysterical and the subsequent murder of Tina (which really is an awesome special effect) this whole scene, if not outright scary, has stuck with me ever since I was a 10 year old kid.

When I first started reading this thread, I was having trouble coming up with anything. I thought, "Well, I suppose I could say that this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L9y2pQwcts)movie (not any specific scene) scared me as a kid." And that lead me to remember more scenes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u3CRa_E3nw - Again, another entire movie that even today I have to distract myself just to be able to squirm through it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITNq_Xw0sWE - I lived in a house with a creepy-ass basement and an old, old heater, through the vents of which I was certain those pruny-headed mofos were going to steal me.

...and the eventual realization that I was a pussy when I was a kid. Because the one thing that scarred me for life is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4VNMERVsC4 - Even now, I can't watch it or listen to it.

I have an issue with it when it's used purely for shock value.

Same as I despise all TV shows and movies that use Pregnancy-In-Jeopardy/Miscarriage for shock value or to get ratings.

But in the case of films such as Irreversible or Lilya 4-Ever, where it is integral to the story, I have no problem with it.

French film that is structured similarly to Memento in that it starts at the end and runs backwards.

My 2nd favorite foreign film after L'appartment (which has the same two leads, Cassel & Belluci).

Not for the weak of stomach/faint of heart.
A very brutal film from start to finish. Or finish to start if you will.

Yeah, One False Move is an incredible movie. It's amazing that it was Sling Blade that really put him on the map and not his movie. The opening scene is right up there with the infamous home invasion scene from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Yep, another messed-up scene. Someone should do a movie with a bunch of home invasions...THAT would be scary.

And yeah, One False Move was one of those undiscovered gems. I found out about it through, I believe, a Siskel and Ebert review. I remember them showing that scene of Billy Bob going all paranoid in the convenience store and thinking, Man, that guy's scary.

Oh, look, a Siskel and Ebert clip choosing One False Move as one of the best movies of 1992:

Couldn't find the Henry home invasion scene, but I did find the trailer!!!

Yeah, that scene is messed up. First time I saw it, I kept waiting for the movie to cut away and show something else, but nope. Great movie, though. Billy Bob should write more movies.

I just watched this for the first time last night. Intense stuff.
